  1. I think the tail pipe on that exhaust is still 2.25" it's just mandrel bent so it has a bit less restriction. I had one on my ZJ and I liked it. Just watch that polished tail pipe tip. They like to rust off at the weld if you live where there is salt.
  2. My 99 XJ's oem muffler and tailpipe were falling off. Went to my local garage and asked him if he had anything that would last longer than the 2 yrs I've been getting out of the parts store walker stuff. He said a cherry bomb and his heavier exhaust tubing would do the trick. "NO !! It has to be quiet. So he put a muffler he carries on it and bent a new 21/4" tailpipe and me and the dogs can't even hear my wife pull into the yard now. Perfect, didn't seem to lose any power either. What ever you would gain with an otherwise stock engine just isn't worth the noise. In Don's case his engine has a bunch more power than stock so it could use a larger exhaust. Otherwise stick with stock size.
  3. Metric Tons with Chevy drop shackles. More than enough to clear 31's. Staying spring under will reduce your axle wrap compared to SOA. Metric Tons will also limit wrap and have as much load capacity that an MJ should carry.
  4. Find yourself a 360 and axles with 3.73-4.10 gears and you'll have yourself a whole different truck.
  5. You could probably drift if you use 4 temporary spares. Not for long though.
  6. 4l60e isn't going to hold up to that much HP.
  7. That mustang has close to 850 HP. Better find out what the AWD system in that is.
  8. The year change is 1992. 92-06 Have the larger pilot shaft. 87-91 have the smaller pilot shaft. 1994 was first year of external slave in the XJ and YJ.
  9. I guess that's one benefit of living in the rust belt. Drive trains are cheap.
  10. You can get good used 4.0's for a few hundred bucks a 4.2 is a big step back. I just drove home a 1992 with 74k on it for $300. Body is wrecked on one side, it was Tboned but still drove good. They are out there, you just have to let everybody know that your always looking. That's how I get them.
  11. Pawing through my junk looking for something else I came across two sets of 97+ door panels. One set electric one set manual. The electric panels still have the cut out for the manual regulator crank on the back side. Granted you'll have switches you can't use but it's better than looking at a bare door. FYI my panels are gray and I don't need them. Make an offer. Let me make sure there are two manual panels and that they are decent.
  12. Look at the back side of the panel. There may be a spot for the window crank on the inside. Poke a hole in it and you would have to make some sort of escutcheon for it.
  13. Lokka's I think are made in China. Aussie lockers are made in USA. Not a large price difference.
  14. Sounds like you have death wobble. Very common in Cherokees, Comanches and 94 and up Dodge trucks. The Cherokee and Comanche use the same front suspension wether 2 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive. If you google death wobble you'll get a bunch of info on dealing with it. Also a lot of info here.
  15. KKilmer had my old 1998 XJ, bought it with 207K on it and I sold it with 390K on it Only replaced your usual stuff brakes, waterpump, alternator, starter and radiator. He just sold it with 410K on it still running original engine. It never left us stranded.
  16. That's why I look for high mileage one owner XJ's for daily drivers. If somebody put 150-200K on it it must of been a damn good vehicle. Worst vehicles I ever owned were under 50k and 3-4 years old.
  17. A Dana 44 has the same type bearing as the non c clip 35. It's a better more durable design. With the straight bearings your axle is the inner race. Parts aren't interchangeable between the two.
  18. They must've been giving me a good price then. They had a big parts business, a lot of people bought from them. They don't have to worry about that any more. Hillbilly, have you checked the temp at the thermostat housing yet?
  19. They say they are independent but they vote in lock step with the democrats.
  20. Agree on dealer thermostat. Trouble is, the dealer I went to changed hands and it went from $13 to $25. Must be great to work for too. Everybody from the old dealership quit within a month. They lost a lot of customers too. Guy that owns a garage near me has bought over 40 vehicles from the old owner. He changed dealers after the sale.
  21. Probably end up with better economy because it won't be lugging as much. However you're in Indiana so it's fairly flat where it wouldn't penalize the 3.07's as bad as they do in my area. Look for 3.55's from an auto if you're going to go a little bigger with your tires.
  22. Check the temperature of your thermostat housing before opening anything up. Reservoir temps will be lower than thermostat housing temps. Also you can see how much of a drop there is from one side of your radiator to the other by checking both radiator tanks. My 92 runs pretty close to 210 at the thermostat housing.
  23. What is your location. There's people on here that have piles of parts and you could get a stock Dana 35 rear axle for short money. It'll be a bolt in.
