Jeep Comanche Build, 2X4 To 4X4, 5Speed To Auto, Stroker

I did not even think about going through the woods as being a problem... Bu I think your right, need to watch them trees. Most my wheeling will be in the desert, light rock crawling. I'll use this jeep as one of my work trucks in my fleet. I'll drive it mostly, but there will be times I'll need to let one of my guys use it. So, It won't see hard core off-road extreme rock. :) I really wanted a Lund Visor, but I could not find one. Then I saw a "Military" styled MJ with a 50" LED, and liked it. Kinda looks like a Lund.. kinda. I got the brackets on eBay. search Jeep Cherokee 50" brackets. I think I paid $150... -
Yea, I was asking about the 3rd brake light / bed light. I'm looking for a semi-stock part. Not a factory part, just needs to look like something factory would use. On the inside lights, I already bought new replacements, found em on Amazon. ggcnash, you have a picture of that light? Thanks for your answers

my '88 jeep has no cab light above the back window. any kits out there to add one? or is there select trucks I can pull a light off of at the junk yard? Thanks

Dang, that bumper got bent. Did it pull the frame, bend the frame? I actually like that bumper design, but I've wondered about its strength. I was going to pickup a stronger bumper that hugs the body. But, I'm worried about that too. If the bumper is too strong, an impact may harm the frame.

I'm going to add Oil temp, Oil Pressure, water temp, AFR, trans temp, and some other gauges. Questions, Where is the best place to pull oil pressure? Near the factory one would be best, but I can't find any spliters for that. Water Temp, The engine is an HO from 92, and has a factory sensor up on the water neck. but, the old school temp sensor is still on the rear of the block. Can I replace that with a sensor from a gauge? I've looked hard, and and I can't find a "Deep" alum. Transmission pan for the Automatics in these trucks, do they make them? Those usually have a temp sensor hole. And, on the subject of Automatic Transmissions, what is everyone using for aftermarket cooling, that fits with the condenser? Thanks

well got most of the lift / suspension done. Took the Axles from the 91 XJ, and moved the to the MJ. Had to weld on new perches on the Chrysler 8.25. We picked up some U bolts from Autozone, they fit really nice. Then used the old MJ bottom spring plates, put them on top, and connected the shocks. Seems to work. The front alignment shims did not want to fit, had to grind down bushings in the arms. They had a LockRight front locker $100 off (~$200 or so), so I grabbed that. I'll get a locker for the rear too. Also I'll install new Diff covers. My goal is to get the MJ up & running as as possible. Then once its driving, I'll up-grade parts as needed. We pulled the motor. I'm rebuilding the 4.0 H.O. right now, to a 4.7. I'm hours away from pulling the trigger on this kit,, http://www.cleggengine.com/stroker-kits/jeep-4-0-stroker-kits.html# The stage 3 kit, and Stage 2 CAM. Any comments, good, bad? Well, I wish you luck. I'm going to be going through this pain soon. -
Questions.. Shims to align the LCA, did you use the factory ones? How do you get the adjuster to fit? (NOTE: I'm using factory control arms, for now..) Front Brake hoses, can you post a picture of how you mounted them on the caliper? Cause, I have them installed, and at full drop, they are tight. any flexing and they may snap. Also, on the XJ they show braces that support the control arm drop brackets. The go all the way to a cross-member and support the back of the drop brackets. I found a site that sells them for the MJ, cause the XJ ones won't fit.

Well I'm starting my build. First, I must say there are many, many nice Comanche builds on this site. Lots of information and ideas to pull from. The truck is a 4X2 Jeep Comanche with a 4.0 and 5-speed. The goal is to build a reliable 4x4 truck, that can be driven daily. I'm going to start "Low Budget", and work up from there. In other words, I want to get the truck up and running, then start modifying from there. Example, I'm using the stock upper and lower control arms, however I have plans to change them out in the future. What I don't want is a 3 to 10 year build and never being able to drive it. I want it driving & 4X4ing in just a few months. Then build up from there. (its NOT my daily driver, just another hobby truck. :) ) I bought a 92 Jeep Cherokee 4.0 4X4 with Auto, for parts. The 4X4 worked, the interior is in real good shape. The list: convert to a 4X4, 5.5" lift, swap in a Chrysler 8.25 rear (longer shackles in rear) lockers front-n-rear, install Automatic, 4.7 Stoker motor electric fans redo the inside, new or rebuilt inside (rug, seats, dash,,,) under-body armor other misc stuff. I started the project with the suspension and lift. I got the lift parts from the $600 lift thread. http://comancheclub.com/topic/35519-55-600-mj-lift-cheap-high-quality-100-complete-lift/ All the lift parts came in, we started installing it. So far so good. Image Not Found Image Not Found Doing a spring over on the rear axle. Once we get the axles under the truck again, we'll pull the engine and Transmission. clean the engine bay up, paint and what not. Questions: Should I do a slip yoke removal on the transfer case? Should I put a CV joint on the rear shaft?

on the Thanks, what about the tach? I have a 92' donor truck with a nice panel. well it "drop" in on an 87'.
-
nice work. not many Comanches around here, in the EPT.
-
quick question about the instrument panel, did the better one with the Tach just bolt in?

Good Day :) My 87' Jeep is having Transmission issues, its a 5Speed. I'm being told its a "Puke" or something transmission. So, I found a 91' Jeep Cherokee SUV 4X4. Both Trucks have a 4.0 Engine, However the jeep Cherokee has an Automatic. Questions : 1. Can I take the Axles, Transmission, Transfer case & drive shafts, and put them in my 4X2 Comanche? 2. think I can do this in less then 10 hr's? Are there any write up's on this type of project? Thanks.. By the by, I know my 5Speed was going out, And I've been on the look out for a 4X4 Cherokee to gut. So, I got $400 cash, an drove around my neighborhood. Saw the jeep, knocked on the door, cash in hand. The guy was kinda shocked, but handed the the title and keys. :) I had spent weeks looking through crags list before....

yea, I changed both U-Joints. It only has a rear drive shaft.
-
I know there are a lot of drive shaft vibration posts already, but most deal with lifted trucks. nineteen hundred & eighty seven Jeep Comanche 4X2 with I6 4.0 Stock height, new tires (balanced), new U-Joints, new transmission mount. I few weeks ago I had bad vibration at speed. My transmission mount was missing all the bolts, and all the rubber was ripped. I replaced the transmission mount and u-joints. Truck drove great after that. Slight vibration at speeds above 85 (90 or so), but, hey it is an ol' truck.. Now, it has a awful vibration at any speed above 30. different then the last time I had vibration issues. The drive-shaft that comes out of the tail shaft of the transmission wiggles. I think there is a bearing in the tail shaft of the transmission. Can anyone confirm that? Thanks
