almos You can bring a salvage vehicle back to life in Pa. You just end up with a reconstucted title. It lowers the resale value a bit on a newer vehicle but on an older car or truck it really doesnt hurt it that much providing the repairs wre done correctly. The problem is every notary you talk to will give you different info on what you have to do.
  4. I have a question about the open cooling system on my wifes 2000 xj. Is there an easy way to fill the cooling system on the 4.0 ho motors. I had to replace the lower rad hose on our xj tonight and am having a hell of a time trying to get all the air out of the system. I filled it up and drove it and while it isnt over heating I only get heat when the engine is under a load. If you rev the engine above 2000 rpm in park you get instant heat from the vents. I'm thinking I have air in the heater hoses somewhere. I had this problem once before and bled it out through a heater hose, but can't for the life of me remember how i did it.
  5. Well I finally got the death wobble under control so I figured Id get back to work on taking care of some rust. I still have to bend up one small piece of the wheel lip but at least its whole again. shot of the entire druvers side with no holes in it for the first time since Ive owned it. here's a shot of the new bumper/hitch that my buddy fabbed up for me. Its a little bigger than I was looking for but he supplied the steel and dabbed it up for me for nothing so I can't complain.
  6. I finally gave in today and changed the wheels and tires out for another set I had in the garage. Took it for a little spin and gueww what....no more shaking. It amazes me that tires and or a bad rim could make a vehicle shake that violently. I have always mounted and balanced my own tires, had a few shimmy from not getting the balance just right, even had a couple with broken belts. But I would have never believed that a tire or tires could make a truck almost undriveable. Thanks to everyone who chimed in. At least I know my front end parts are all in good shape....lol
  7. Gonna have the tires done monday( my next day off). Ive adjusted steering boxes before just not on this truck. I may look at that today if things are slow at work.
  8. Both front wheel bearings are tight and smooth. Does anyone think that wear in the steering gear itself cuold cause this? Truck has 202,000 on it. I noticed yesterday that the steering in the wifes xj is alot tighter than what mine is. It doesnt seem to have much play in the wheel itself but the xj seems to steer alot quicker.
  9. Just replaced the front shocks this morning as a matter of fact. I am now able to run up to about 58 mph before it starts to shake. Once it starts though I have to slow back down below 40 to calm it down. I'm gonna take the tires and wheels and have them spin balanced just to make sure I don't have a bent rim. I really can't believe its the tires and or wheels. I ran these tires last winter with no problem. Just seems funny that this all started as soon as I put them back on for this winter.
  10. I should have mentioned before this also occurs at any speed above 50 mph if I hit a bump with the left front tire. I have also swapped out the wheels and tires with the wifes xj and while it was better from 50 to 60 but it still shook after hitting a bump just not as bad.
  11. Ok I'm looking for anybodys input here...... I have a 89 longbed 4x4 that has developed death wobble out of nowhere in th past couple months. The truck has about a 3 inch lift with stock control arms. I drive about 70 miles a day to and from work on some 2 lane and 4 lane roads. The truck has driven great about a year and a half until just recently at all speeds up to about 75 or 80. I have checked all the steering components and none of them are loose. The tracbar is a new stock one I installed about 1 year ago. I checked both ends of the tracbar and the frame mount and everything is tight there as well. All the ball joints are tight and well greased. The only problem ive had this summer is a broken stud on one front shock. All was well untill about six weeks ago when i switched from my summer aluminum rims to my steel winter rims and tires. I took the tires off and bubble balanced them and they are all good. The wobble comes in from 50 to 60 mph but goes away at speeds above that. If you accelerate quickly to about 65 it doesnt wobble from 50 to 60.Now here's where it gets really crazy. I took it out today for the first time with the 6 foot meyers plow on the front and had very little wobble what so ever. :???: :???: :???: Any body have any ideas why adding weight to the front made the wobble bearable?
  12. spent my days off tryin to patch up some of the worst of the rust. Got the drivers side cab corner and rocker welded pu and primed. cab corner before new cab corner welded in and ground smooth. It still needs a little filler to be ready for paint but at least its solid again. I finished up the rocker next(wound up replacing about half of it). Its amazing how much quieter it is inside with the holes welded up. I started on the drivers bedside today...will try to post up the pics when I get it done.
  13. I dd my 89 longbed 4x4 with a lift every day. Until this recent fight with death wobble started this thing was by far my favorite dder do far. I have had a couple 1st generation s10's(2wheel and 4 wheel drive) a 91 ranger, and a 93 s10 blazer 4x4. The only one that came close to running as good as the Jeep was th Blazer with a vortec 4.3.( If you think the jeep is hard to work on turn a wrench on one of those a couple times  The old Comanche is aggravating from time to time. Like when it mysteriously developes a case of death wobble for no apparent reason. But I just have to remember that its a 20 year old truck, that was never taken care of by the previous owner, and kkep on wrenching.
  14. don't think I'm gonna be selling anytime soon. I love this little truck. As a matter of fact I spent most of the weekend patching up the worst of the rust. I'm hoping to paint it sometime next summer if I get my other 2 paintjobs done.
  15. Figured I'd post this up here for anyone interested. 1989 longbed Pioneer 4.0 5 spd 3:55 gears The good: Spring over rear with 3 inch front coils The bad: Rusty bed and rockers Very rusty cab corners and tailgate. A couple more pics Ready to work

    Gas prices

$1.82 a last night about 8 pm. Thats down 16 cents in the last week! :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: If this keeps going I might just be able to afford to drive my hot rod again next summer...lol
  18. Have you replaced the injectors yet? If not that would be my guess. My 89 developed a miss not long after I put it on the road that wound up being a bad injector. I replaced all the plugs, wires, cap, and rotor before I checked the injectors. Wound up having one bad injector. On the up side the truck got a tune up it probably needed anyway.
  19. That was the main reason th po decided it wasnt worth fixing the rear end. It wouldnt pass Pa sefety inspection anymore. Thankfully the good old Ohio says you can drive anything(almost) as long as its registered and insured. I have been looking for a bed and tailgate for over a year now. Havent been able to find anything that isnt 1000 miles away.
  20. The trac bar is a new NAPA one I just replaced it last fall. All steering parts seem tight to me. Thanks 4 the info on the toe in I'll check that out tomorrow. Does anyone know if there is a way to check the control arms 4 bad bushings. Ive laid under the truck and tried to move them around and they seem tight. Planning on checking the balance on the tires this weekend.
  21. thanks 4 the info and patience. This is my first attempt at posting images anywhere. Ive already figured out how to empty my pockets. I think my tps(104.00 at napa) is on its way out. Going to test it out tomorrow at work.
  22. Got it now I think.....Thanks 4 the help guys
  23. Guess I still need some practice with the pics....lol The only reason th po parked it was the busted rearend.....It ran like a top. Ive had to do a few things with it since then.....but what can you expect from a 19 year old truck with 170,000 miles!!!!!!! Has been a great little ride but it seems to be running a little rich right now. Still runs smooth but seems to be using more gas than it used to....... Oh yeah I'm also trying to track down the cause of a nasty case of death wobble.
  24. [/img]img][/img] Since Ive brought it home I added a rear spring over( had to replace the busted d35 that was there when I got it.). Snowplow. And better stereo.
