  1. so today i cleaned off my desk because it was gettin really cluttered, and i had the day off and cleaned the house anyhow. Among cleaning my dsk off i found a little black plastic flap looking thing and is has the AMC emblem on it; i found it in my MJ when i first bought it and i thought it was cool so i put it on my desk. Well now i'm wondering, what is it, does it have any value and what did it go to? Redwolf
  2. :agree: Redwolf
  3. i can use 75w90, 85w90 or 75w140 all depends on what i'm doin, i do a lot of scrap hauls and towing but don't know which one to use trust me i know i don't need to go to the shop, my dad used to pack wheel barrings all the time on his vehicles, untill he got my mom's jeep no vehicle with his name on the title has ever seen a shop except for inspection and tires, i'm just wondering with the front axle (lack of a better word, it's not 4wd it's 2wd) i don't know what seal i need, Redwolf
  4. so i went for inspection today and passed  but the inspector recommended that i get my rear diff serviced and repack my front wheel barrings, i know how to do the diff service myself (i've done enough at work) but i was wondering what fluid to put in there. also repacking the wheel barrings i think i gotta replace the seals when i do that if i can't get em for a 86 comanche could i use a set off a cherokee and if so what year? Redwolf
  5. i believe they were all the same, i've pulled em off 90s XJs and they fit, Redwolf
  6. might be as simply as a clogged nozzle on the vent in between the hood and windshield, that's how it was for me, very easy to solve; take the screws out of the vent (i think there's 12) and remove vent the get a flat head screwdriver and gently pry the pin on the nozzle (after takin off the hoses) under the vent, slide it out and blow on where the hose was, should push everything out the nozzle if not, try blowin on the side that the washer fluid comes out of, Redwolf
  7. i don't know but if a cop can give ya a ticket for falty equipment i assume it's gotta work for inspection, Redwolf
  8. they didn't need to be replaced, it was either my switch or my battery but i did wana find out the type of bulb and i didn't figure that out either but as of now....knock on wood...the speedo works, i don't know how accurate it is, seems to be under the speed limit now but it moves, Redwolf
  9. what's the top speed end post? Redwolf
  10. not trying to be rude but if yall can't help don't reply, i'm willing to try anything bein that my inspcetion is next month, Redwolf
  11. eagle my speedo needle can wrap around, the lowest number is 5 and there's no pin to keep it from goin lower than. Also i was able to push the rod back in the cable but the POS speedo is still pined but i did noticed it moved a little up, Redwolf
  12. yeah i took the clear plastic cover off, i thought the light bulbs had to be takin out from inside the cluster 40-50 poster? Never heard that before. i'll try to push it in, and if i don't have a speed in reverse oh well, i don't use that anyhow and by 40-50 poster they're jokin me, go read my other threads and you'll understand, Redwolf
  13. before ya had to replace the cable? and how much should i push in the cable and what do i do if i can't push any in? Redwolf
  14. so i took my dash apart to see what lights i take under the gauges and i hit the speedo needle and moved it back and now it doesn't work, is there a way to fix this? Redwolf
  15. Yeah i know it'll be messy, ive never adjusted valves with the engine running right, i have always made it worse than if i have done it dead ice cold. What i didnt understand though is when i went 1 1/2 of a turn yesterday it was knockin hard and sounded like all the valves were open, Redwolf
  16. i would adjust the carb but it'd be pointless with my valves still clattering. i don't know what has gone wrong with my MJ but every time i do somethin to it now it messes my truck up worse, i'm smelling raw gasoline from the exhaust after the engine heats up, it hesitates to go, it acts like it wants to die as if the carb is starving it of fuel, i know i gotta mess with the valves again but being that i'm messing with those should i also mess with the carb's fuel/air mixure after adjusting valves? another thing, how do i check the vaccum advance, because i remember reading somewhere that it could cause valves to clatter if it's bad, also what do you mean that the nut that holds the lifter one needs to be at 19lbs; is that torqued at 19lbs? Redwolf
  17. so i adjusted the valves again today like the haynes manual says and i lost a quarter tank of gas within 1 minute, adjusted the valves again but to a 1/2 a turn instead of 1 1/2 turn and it's back too where it was, i think wednesday when i'm off again and when i have light i'll add another 1/2 turn and that should put me right or should i got in the middle of 1 1/2 turn? Redwolf
  18. deffently why to bright for me, even in the picture but looks nice, do they dim any? thanks i'll deffently keep this in mind when i do it sunday if i get around to it, adjusting my valves comes first over lights is the speedo cable the only thing cable? by any chance did ya check the bulb number? Redwolf
  19. thanks guys and i don't plan on goin with LED just cause they can't be dimmed, i do need my lights dimmed when i'm drivin at midnight on lonely roads, but i'll deffently pull the cluster out and check, is there any wires on the back of the cluster, anything like the speedo and mileage that is attached that i should be very carefull of? Redwolf
  20. just incase i do have to replace it, is this the switch? http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/bwd-headlight-switch-s940/5971047-P?searchTerm=head+light+switch# Redwolf
  21. the dimmer function of the switch still works yes but if you turn it all the way like you're gonna click the B pillar lights on, before that click the gauges go dark untill you click it or dial it down a hair, and the 74s, can you get them at any normal auto part store? Redwolf That's an important detail that suggests the switch dimmer as being the problem. In that case, I'm with the others. Pull the switch and check for burnt up wiring while you're at it. A new switch is $13 on RockAuto. Edit: You should be able to get 74 bulbs pretty much anywhere you look. thanks, i'll deffently look into the switch sunday, shouldn't be that hard to figure out after the method listed above, Redwolf

  23. good deal, i'll have to try it sunday when i'm off  but if the switch isn't the issue how hard is it to replace bulbs? Redwolf
  24. proper method or not as long as it works it works, is it just the opposite to install it? Redwolf
  25. i have not tried messing with the headlight switch, i forgot it controls the dash lights cause i have it turned up all the way, is it easier to take out and replace? and i replace it with any headlight switch just like it out of a cherokee or comanche? Redwolf
