the wires are what's gonna be the hard part cause we have the hoses still connected to everything that aint mounted on the engine block, plus i have that diagram under the hood and the haynes manual for my MJ and if all else fails between those two, i have everyone here on the forums :) Redwolf

i plan on keepin everything untill it's runin 100% anyhow specially since all my stuff is in good shape, just everything AC related is being ripped out since i don't believe in havin AC plus all my vehicles in my family line have never had AC untill my mother bought a 2012 jeep liberty, and it's too late for my to take pictures because everything is discounted, wires, hoses, everything, Redwolf

ok, that makes more sense, will the old timin cover fit onto the newer engine? and is there anything else i should know before droppin the newer engine? Redwolf
-
i'm just trying to figure out how one timin cover spins one way and another spins the other way, that just makes no sense, Redwolf

seems like you're the only one in VA, i just got a comanche not to long ago but it's currently not runnin due to a cracked block, i'm in virginia beach by NAS OCEANA, once i get some money saved up after payin bills and gettin the comanche runnin again i'd look foward to some trips or meet and greets in the tidewater area, Redwolf

it's a serp belt but the blocks and everything are exactly alike in every way, just the newer one is in better shape and aint got a crack in the block Redwolf

How about posting any info here? I've already done a '85 S10 swap into a '86 MJ but that was no sweat. Both Vbelts. I'm getting ready to swap a '93 2.8 from a S10 into a another '86 MJ. Would like to get as much info on it as possible. Basically thats all there is to it. The intake, valve covers, timing cover, water pump, and oil pan are different on the tbi engines. Oh and the motor mounts are different. Bolt to the engine the same, but the mj's frame mounts are different than the others iirc. Basically the only parts you can use from the newer engines without swapping everything for the tbi in is the block, heads, and internals. Take lots of pictures of all the electrical plugs and vacuum routings because theyre pretty complex. Looked through all my pics, and don't have any that really show the differences between the two, but if you pay attention to that, the differences are hard to miss. well i can't get the hermonic balencer off because i aint got the tool for it and me and my dad have been lookin at the blocks side by side and they look exactly alike same bolt pattern for the water pump too, Redwolf

not at the moment, i currently have one on my tailgate and it's staying, Redwolf

i have an issue with the timing cover, i couldn't get the one off the engine i pulled today so is it ok if i keep that one on the "new" engine or do i have to use the one off the carbd engine? Redwolf
-
oh i'm stayin carbd, the 2,8 i'm yankin is TBI i don't wanna put any more crap into my comanche than i have two, but i gotta keep the exhust manifolds and what else? Redwolf

went to the local junkyard today and found a 2.8 v6 out of a 93 gmc sonoma, will that fit into a 86 comanche? Redwolf

Seeing as how I just did a 2.8 swap out of an S10, I STRONGLY agree with this. Anything you can do to delete the emissions crap on it is worth while. I'm still fighting it, figuring out what goes where and what can be removed. Also, the 2.8 is horribly under powered. If you need a new engine, go with the 3.4 if you can find one! Also, if you do decide to go back with another 2.8, one from an 82(?)-84 S10 will be carbed, for a straight swap over. if its from a newer s10, blazer, jimmy, etc, then you will either have to wire in the tbi, or swap intakes, timing cover, water pump, oil pan, and valve covers from the jeep engine, because those were all changed with the switch from carbs to tbi thanks yall, i'll deffently keep this in mine when i go lookin for an engine, chances are i'll stick with the 2.8 just because that's what my truck had from the facotry, my MJ is a long term project truck and i'm gonna try to get it as stock as i can minus the audio system, but as long as the engine i pull is a 2.8, 3.1, or 3.4 and has a carb i should be fine right? Redwolf Even if it is a 2.8 with tbi it will work. Just keep the intake, oil pan, valve covers, and timing cover from your old engine and swap them over since they are different on tbi engines. I would try to find a newer engine just because the low end issues were solved later on i'll keep that in mine too, right now i'm checkin every junkyard in my area because i aint got the money for a engine from the parts store but i'm still keepin my option of the part store there, Redwolf

ok, chances are i'll stick with the 2.8V6 engine so is there any special years i gotta get the engine from other than 1986, Redwolf
-
thanks yall, i'm currectly takin my engine apart to find out if it has a blown gasket or a cracked head or possibly the block and i'm tryin to make a list of everything i need to get after i get my jeep runnin to make it pass inspection, also did the 2.8 V6s come factory stock with emissions check valves and all that, another thing can a 2.8 V6 engine from a GM vehicle fit and would i have to swap anything or make any modifications? found out that the plug was the backup light switch, but still no sign of a clutch safety switch or neutral safety switch, any ideas where one might be on a manual trans? Redwolf
-
could be, i've only see three prug safety switches, Redwolf
-
ok if i don't have a neutral safety switch could i have a clutch safety switch because i found a 2 prug switch on the passenger side for the transmission mount, Redwolf

i just got a 1986 jeep comanche satuday and it did not pass inspection from when the last owner had it due to not havin a neutral safety swtich, but her machanic said they didn't have one, is that true or did the 86 comanche have a neutral safety switch? Also where is the engine id code is on a 86 comanche? Thanks in advance, Redwolf
