I thought the '86 were only the long beds. The short beds were not introduced until '87. The OP says he has an '86. i thought MJs even in 86 came with short beds, Redwolf

Wiper Blade Motor And Fluid Nozziles
redwolf624 replied to redwolf624's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'll tell ya why I know it will be fine. Years ago, when I had one of my 13 Comanche demos from the dealership, I took my family and visiting cousin out on an excursion. About 3 people were riding in the bed. I found that when at slow speeds, I could hit the washers and spray the folks in the bed and make them scream. that'd be funny, but i'll have to try the speed thing cause even in my parents jeeps it don't hit as high on their windshields, my dad's windshield is even smaller than mine and it don't hit as high and they seem to be in the same position as mine but i'll give it a shot, Redwolf -

so i do have a 16 gal tank, same size as my dads and i know thats a 16 gal tank, but it looks like it's supposed to have 3 straps on it, i got one in the rear, one in the middle but the two ends are held on my the gas tank shroud but the rear strap in in between the tank and the shroud is that normal? i went tinkerin around with the mj again yesterday and noticed that i had "no" wiper fluid so i put some in enough to get over the flow hole and tested it and it hits the very top of my windshield and into my bed, is there any way to adjust em? also i noticed that the speeds for high and low on the wipers seem to be the same, so i think the wiper motor might be goin bad (doesn't surprise me, everything on this mj except the motor i put in, tires, radiator, basic tune up, and breaks are 27 years on) so where would it be cause my haynes manual doesn't tell me Redwolf

ok, so it is a small truck with a long bed :) if i was to go shoppin for camper shells what size would i have to get for it or would it have to be custom made? Redwolf
-
well i'll look on the tank, i'll look for a plate, by trucks bed is weird though it's 7'8" i think eith 8" or 6" but either way a little over 7' and a half (by the way is that considered an 8' bed?) Redwolf
-
should it say some where on the truck what size like on the inside of the door or on the tank or somethin? Redwolf
-
ok, thanks yall, stock for stock what size tank should an 86 comanche custome have? Redwolf
-
so this could very well be normal and i'm not havin a gas hog issue it's just the nature of the beast and the indecator? also what could cause the gas gauge needle to dance while i'm drivin because that's bothers me really bad, Redwolf

i gotta question, what could cause me to go from bein in between 1/2 and 1/4 of a tank of gas to 1/4 in a matter of ten minutes, saturday i drove all over town purdy much and stayed in between 1/2 and 1/4 of a tank of gas, went to work today (ten minute drive from my house) and was still in between the two but i get home and i'm a 1/4, i don't have a fuel leak (i hope not since i just replaced every hose on my MJ) but i do have a 2se carb and a 5 speed manual, could it be the gears i'm in cause my truck to use more gas? Redwolf

probably my last update for a long time, i got the MJ runnin, she purs like a kitten, tried drivin it today and i just gotta work on takin off but i'm gettin there, see yall on the roads soon :) Redwolf

Cheap, Locking Tool Box
redwolf624 replied to Zenobian_84's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
lowes, some home depots, tractor supply, habor frieght and nothern tools, they normally have em for cheap, well around here atleast, ebay might be an option too Redwolf -
i got the idol problem fixed, it was a vacum leak, there is a vacum port under/inbetween the distributor and EGR valve, me and my dad don't know what it goes to, we're thinkin the breaks were once hooked up to it, could that be true? Redwolf
-
oh i know the screws, i have the flexable screwdriver thing, my dad figured that (not sure which one) either the slow or fast idol speed is fubar, could that be the cause of all my issues? Redwolf
-
update: i've been lookin under the hood a lot at the vaccum lines and i can't find a hose that's faulty, i'm startin to think there aint a vacum leak but somethin that could act like one, i've also noticed that when drivin the truck it'll "hit hard" even at idol, i've adjusted the vavles but that only made it a little better, i don't care what ya get a 2.8 v6 outta, it should not run rough and act like it's hittin hard so any ideas? Redwolf
-
ok, i went through a half tank of gas yesterday, if there was a vacum leak that could cause a carb to act bad where would it be? Redwolf

Congrats on it passing! Easiest way to dry floor is to pull the seats and carpet, seperate carpet from the carpet pad, and thow away the pad. i'm gonna throw it all away, i'm gonna paint the cabs tub with an oil based enamel, kinda like bedliner but without the roughness. i also gotta nother question, what vacum line can cause the driver to do a gas pedal dance when the engine is cold and cause it to go from a half a tank of gas to E in an hour? Redwolf

my mj passed inspection, but i still gotta try to get a new carb, fix the electrical, get a new radio and speakers, hopefully figure out the fog lights and rip out the floorin that's holdin moisture, Redwolf

true, i'm 19 but mine might not see off road use due to virginia beach bein a no fun zone, Redwolf
-
i tried that earlier today, didn't work, pulled out the multimeter there's power goin to the radio wires, i'm guessin the radio's dead, also, my wires for everything else don't have power to the cig lighter don't work, inside lights don't work, fog lights don't work, anyone got a diagram of the electrical wires? Redwolf

saw another comanche today all blue with a blue camper shell in the chimney hill area of virginia beach, i never knew there were so many comanches out there in virginia beach, Redwolf

Mine didnt come with a radio..its been driving since ~jan and i still havent put one in it...kinda waiting till i figure out all the noises it makes. They usually tell me when something breaks so i don't destroy it. Someday though ill get around to puttin it in. i know how that is, my dad's old 89 s10 blazer made a lot of noises and he knew what broke when and where cause of the noise, but i do want a radio cause they're a lotta other drivers that crank their radio up with music i don't like so blockin out their music is a plus, Redwolf That right there is the biggest reason i want one! And its nice if you have extra speakers to make removeable boxes, set em on the bed, and be a bonfire dj  yeah but sadly i never know where the bonfires are in my area and i don't have the land to start em so speakers in the bed are little pointless for me, but as long as i can open up the doors and turn it up i'm fine, Redwolf Thats why you put in disconnects on the door speakers, make a box for some extra speakers, and just plug them into the door discos! Great for bonfires, camping, etc true, i think that's what the only speaker in my truck is, not sure but first thing is first, inspection then learnin to drive stick, Redwolf
