When axles go bad, which bits break?
pilotblake replied to Jerry's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
edit: whaddya reckon to my new avatar :D I don't know what axels will stand up long to that kind of abuse. Makes my neck/spine sore watching it . -
 Its bad enough I have a chevy under the hood, I don't know if I could sleep at night with a Ford bed out back. Id have to take the jeep badges off and put AMC badges on it.
-
yeah if you want to make a trip to iowa I would get that bed off your hands :agree:
-
Why is it that all the good short bed boxes I see for sale not rusty are the red sport truck boxes with the black and grey stripe? I am starting to think they did something different to these beds or the red paint repels rust. Just an observation I have noticed in my search for a new bed for my truck.

This is the website he is refering to i think http://greendiamondtire.com/productswest2.html

I bought a set of general grabber AT2s after reading many reviews on tirerack.com. I ordered the tires on a monday and had the tires at my door on wednesday cheaper than what I could get them around my area. I highly recommend tirerack.com. As far as the tires in rain I'm not sure as it is the snowy season here. The tires have deep tread and are very quiet for ATs. I hear very little to no noise in my WJ. Good looking tire.

Somebody prior to me installed a full size sun roof in my truck. This is an old picture put its the only one i have that shows the sunroof. I like it because you can remove the entire glass, but it does leak alittle on one corner. And I am curious but not in a hurry to find out what would happen if I should tip. I am working on a roll bar that should be done here next week.

My truck has one.........it leaks, but usually i seem to end up having my window down when i hit mud puddles anyway so it is not a big concern. My biggest concern is what happens when I lay the truck over and it explodes.

I have a black full length center console, however i live on the iowa/nebraska border and am not sure how to ship something like that?

Hired a guy to help me out at an airport I run. He noticed that everything I ever drove to work had that damn 4 letter word on the front(jeep of course). Said his daughter had a jeep in her backyard that she wanted gone and was tired of looking at it. Offered her $50 and she took it. Everything works perfectly and runs fantastic. Strong running 2.5L and 231 transfer case. Unfortunatly it will be parted out to buy parts for my MJ, but my $50 dollar find will make me $600 profit that will benefit my MJ as well as keep fellow jeepers on the road/trail. I hate to see jeeps get split up as much as next guy but the body/frame is pretty rusty.
-
I don't have any real buildup on the hood. It was a hey I think this might work project. I just cut it along the body lines and added some sheetmetal (actually recycled from a scrap chevelle hood) and tacked it up. The only complication was seperating the hoods underneth frame support from the upper sheetmetal. The glue they use is defenitly a PITA. :headpop: The back of the hood has two long oval holes cut out to let the engines heat out. I sealed up the gaps underneth the hood with duct tape then filled it with expanding foam to make the hood more rigid, then removed the duct tape again of course. It has minimal body filler to hopefully elimnate future cracking. Thats about the extent of it. Childsplay compared to some of the amazing things I have seen on this site.

Took a non traditional MJ Poser shot at work since the weather was nice

I guess i was thinking more along the idea of how the post was started. MJs and there owners not random pictures of people doing other stuff. They have facebook for that.
-
Maybe there is? Just thought it would be interesting to see the people who run and build these jeeps. This is the best I could come up with trying to take my own picture. Maybe we shouldnt post what we look like :hmm:
-
I will put one up when I get one. Stop being so objective and just take a picture next to your truck and put it up. I'm curious myself what other MJ owners look like.

Finally broke down and took the MJ to the fancy alignment shop to see how out of wack things really were. Happy to hear everything was pretty close. Did find that my trac bar end was starting to get alittle slop. On a side note he told me he had the the toe set straight ahead, I remember hearing something about DW if you didnt have your toe set in alittle on these lifted rigs? I have had DW before on a vehicle and the idea scares the hell out of me. Am I alright having the wheels set dead straight ahead?

I love the look of that truck. If it was going to be a mall crawler and not used on the highway or at speed I would leave it alone. I personally would trade, but I am biased to MJs. The explorer from 95-01 has an 8.8 that would work and has disk brakes.

I have a V8 in my MJ, Gotta love the small truck with the big sound and the heads turning when it fires off after half a crank everytime. Heat was definitly my biggest issue, then oil pan clearance, and inability to run headers without frame massaging, and................

:agree: I was picturing the above javelin sitting on a 4x4 blazer frame

I remember reading on one of these sites about an upgrade for the lights on the sides by the upper seat belt attach points. However I have done quite a bit of searching and can't seem to find what i was looking for. My lights are not in the best shape and I was looking for what had already been done to either upgrade them or swap something else functional in. :hmm:

Did some exhaust work.........couldnt refuse driving around the country side with the exhaust wide open letting the V8 sing. Then installed the new exhaust system. Still sounds good.

Holy cow, that thing could really snap his neck and pile him into the ground if the machine or operator freaked out. The real world has corrupted me and now all i see is a huge liability, instead of..... when is it going to be my turn to ride.

Sears gift cards......ye who dies with the most tools wins. :shake: $500 cash to go towards my moneypit. I really am having a hard time not investing it....however...I am taking suggestions on what I should foolishly spend this money on. Here is where I have currently...give or take. when I was cutting up the hood I need some type of fender flares, and I am not a super hardcore off road person, so I was looking into rustys 6" fiberglass fender replacements. I want a new winch bumper(and a winch) and other random things, so I am trying to decided what this chunk of money is going to go towards. It needs to go to something within the limit. But expensive enough that I would not go out every day and drop this kind of money on. And don't tell me to invest it, I am married I can get that at home. :fool:

Picked up a set of chains to fit a 35x12.50 BFG Radial.....to get to those hard to reach places.

I think I see mine.
