  1. Do you have any side pics? I can see from your front pics that you have the front fenders on. Did you cut them to allow space for the headlights? I'd like to see some pics of what you did there if you don't mind. Willy
  2. Is there a way to create a double shear track bar mount on the axle end? I was never a fan of how Ford designed that. The track bar receives a huge amount of stress there. Willy
  3. Please, no more government regulations! Now what? Are we going to have tire age sensors with our air pressure monitoring systems? Notice the warehouse was full of rolled SUVs? Most likely driven by people who treat them just as they would a car. They are not cars, they need to be treated differently. People need to learn how to drive and take responsibility for themselves instead of expecting the government to protect them. I've had several flat tires driving down the highway, on trucks, trailers, SUVs, even had the tread separate on a huge Penske moving truck. I'm yet to lose control and roll over. Apparently I'm doing something wrong. Willy
  4. 1. Chop off the lower driver side quarter panel. 2. Weld the rear bumper to the brackets. 3. I'm hopeful that the winch for the MJ will show up today (but not counting on it). If it does, I'll probably work on some mock ups and start thinking about what I want to build for a front bumper. 4. I've got two tires with slow leaks on the XJ. I know where one is leaking. Need to find the leak on the other and repair both. 5. Unibearings need to be replaced on the XJ. My wife wants me to install a couple of ceiling fans so that may delay all of the above. Willy
  5. Almost any vehicle made within the past 30 years, possibly longer, will include metric fasteners. These vehicles in particular have a chassis that included a lot of design help from Renault. The 4.0 can trace its roots back several decades in the US. Because of this, I generally find that the engine (as well as the axles) uses standard sizes and everything else uses metric. Willy
  6. The passenger quarter panel was removed last night. Willy
  7. I picked up some wire and finished welding up the tapers on the ends. Even though I can almost guarantee I won't tow anything with this, I added a place to attach safety chains. If nothing else it helps support the receiver. Willy
  8. Yes, I've removed the NSS and cleaned it. The Jeepin instructions are pretty good. When you separate the two halves of the switch there will be two flat pieces of metal with springs behind them. These are the little pieces you need to watch for. I find that there is usually enough dirt and dried grease in there that they don't fly out. It's very easy to do. Willy
  9. Holy big pics Batman! Willy
  10. :huh???: That's some funny stuff there! I realize Craftsman may not be the highest quality tools, but to even attempt to compare them or Mac with HF is completely laughable. I think they really need to consider cutting back on the funny smelling cigarettes. :dunce: Willy
  11. Check out the IFSJA forums. A lot of good information there. http://www.ifsja.org/forums/vb/ Willy
  12. whats the recommended tranny fluid for the aw-4... please don't tell me its dextron III.... I just spent my lifes saving on a refill in my Rodeo and is highly recommended to use that $7 a qrt fluid.. Just ATF right?? AW4s use Mercon/Dexron. Do NOT use Chrysler ATF+3/4 no matter what the dealer, repair shop, or idiot behind the counter at the parts store tells you. :D Willy
  13. I incorporated a antenna mount into the spare tire carrier. Willy
  14. I cleaned off the rust, welded the receiver tube in, and finished most of the welding on the tapers until I ran out of wire. Willy
  15. The roofers finished the roof yesterday. :clapping: Image Not Found Image Not Found Willy
  16. Up next is cleaning off all the rust. Then I'll start welding everything. I'm also going to cut the lower rear quarter panels of the bed off. Then I'll run 2"x3" rectangular tubing from the bumper up to the rear tire. I'll also run a brace from the 2"x3" tubing to the front of the bumper bracket, probably in that open spot between the shackle hanger and large bolt on the front of the bumper bracket. Similar to what I did with my XJ. Willy
  17. I'm using 2"x4"x3/16" rectangular tubing for the bumper. A couple of in progress shots of tapering the end. Test fitting the hole for the receiver tube. End of last night's progress. Willy
  18. While waiting for materials for the driver side rock slider I decided I had enough material to at least get started on the rear bumper. This is what the stock one looked like after the first wheeling trip. The passenger side bracket. The driver side bracket looks pretty much the same. I'll run gussets from the bumper clear up to just behind the cut out for the shackle hanger. Willy
  19. I've been working on the rock sliders in my spare time. Besides paint the passenger side is done. We are having a new roof installed so there isn't much money left at the moment. Hopefully after the roof I'll be able to pick up the tube for the driver side. Willy
  20. If you have drum brakes. With disc brakes the caliper should hold it together for a short distance, as in getting it off the trail. Is the center section cast on the 8.8? Are there any issues or special precautions such as slowly heating and cooling it that are necessary when welding the tubes to it? Willy
  21. Just be sure to do lots of research and read the fine print. Don't trust any verbal agreements. One company that should be completely avoided is Agape. They are dishonest and couldn't care what happens to your vehicle after they get your deposit. We shipped our MJ from TX to WA last year. After several weeks and more lies, they took $75 from us for nothing. We finally went with a different company who shipped it to us within a week. Willy
  22. Chrome is wrong on anything that isn't from the late '50s with fins. :D Another source for checking junk yards is http://www.car-part.com. I've had good luck finding parts for good prices there. Willy
  23. No VW here. Two Jeeps... Scout... Ram... Image Not Found But, I did have a Volvo wagon with a VW diesel engine. Image Not Found Willy
  24. Willy's is incorrect. Willys is correct, pronounced Willis, spelled with a y. Named after John North Willys, not John North Willy. Willy
