lift came, but not sure if everything did.
reson46 replied to f1tbiker6's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I would suggest taking it to a reputable shop or have a friend who has done this before help you with the rear spring over. The front install should be fairly simple but the rear is probably not something for a beginner to start with. Willy -
I tied the brackets into the sway bar mount. Added the side tubing. Created a ramp along the bottom to help slide over things. Willy

How did this moron become an instructor? Hopefully he is locked away where he is no longer a threat to anybody. He violated the first two golden rules of firearms - which are the first things an instructor should teach. 1. All guns are always loaded. 2. Never point a gun at anything you are not willing to shoot. 3. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target and you are ready to shoot - indexing. 4. Be sure of your target - what is behind and beyond. Willy

What is your 8.8 out of? Your u-joint comment points to Explorer. If so, are you sure the wheel studs are metric? Are your lug nuts cross threaded? The wheels studs on mine and all the 8.8s I've seen have a 1/2 20 thread, the same as what Jeep uses on D30s, D35s, etc. Willy

Thanks guys. This is the fun part. Putting all the pieces together and watching it take shape. :D Willy

holly fireball batman... good idea, but D@MN all I can think of is "Go Boom" if it gets rearended... No more dangerous than the gas tank that is directly beneath it. Does it make you uneasy knowing that you are traveling around with up to 20 gallons of gasoline that will make a nice explosion if ignited in an accident? If either tank explodes it won't be pretty. Willy

That was my first thought, but that seems like a lot of extra work when the same thing could have been done to the other side. Willy

Front dana 44 installation question
reson46 replied to blusteve's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If he has the radius arm D44 I'm not sure that the truss will work with it - at least not without a lot of modification. I think it only works with the Wagoneer or leaf spring Ford D44s. Willy -
:huh???: This is the one I was referring to. I didn't even see the other one. Willy

What's the hole in the rear fender for? Willy

I would almost consider this quicksand. Willy

Started the bumper. This gives a rough idea of the approach angle. It may even be better than with the stock bumper. One of the side brackets. I'm using all of the steering box bolts and going clear back to the large hole a little further back. The hole on the right will be for a D-ring mount. I would actually prefer to not have the D-ring mount sticking off the front, but I couldn't think of a better way to incorporate a tow point. I could have added a tow hook underneath similar to the mounting for most tow hook brackets, but I like the upside down tow hooks even less than the D-ring mounts. :dunno: Willy

Switching to Intermittent Wipers
reson46 replied to reson46's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It's a black plastic box with velcro on it. Thanks! That's exactly what I was looking for. Does the wiring from the turn signal stalk and wiper motor plug into this? Or do I need to grab all the wiring from the turn signal stalk clear to the wiper motor? Thanks, Willy -
Making a tailgate theft-proof?
reson46 replied to johnnyc's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Another deterrent would be to put a hose clamp around the hinge with the removal slot. It wouldn't guarantee that it won't be stolen, but it at least won't make it easy for them. They would then need a screw driver or something to cut the clamp off. Hopefully that would be enough work to make them move on. Willy -
Besides the turn signal stalk, what is needed to switch to intermittent wipers? I am guessing there is probably a box under the dash that controls the amount of delay between wipes, etc.? I'm trying to get an idea of what to look for the next time I find myself in the junk yard. :D Thanks, Willy

You don't think it will hold up? :???: I'm going to add a piece of 6" C channel to the front cross member, then build a bumper around the entire thing. I don't expect sheet metal to handle the pressure of a winch. ;) Willy

I also started working on winch placement. My wife doesn't want me to cut up the grill to fit the winch and I don't want it hanging a foot off the front, so it is going behind the front cross member. It's up against the steering box on the driver side and clears the fan on the passenger side by maybe a quarter of an inch. At the very least I need to notch the fan shroud, but, after seeing what hornbrod did, I think the clutch fan will be removed for a second auxiliary fan. One of the transmission cooler lines will also need rerouting. Sounds like a good time to add an auxiliary transmission cooler. :D Willy

Last night's progress. Passenger side. Rear. I filled the gap between the 2"x4" tube and body with some 1/8" plate. Another view of the passenger side. A couple of pics of the driver side support. This one from the rear. From the front. Willy

Tires. Yes. A tire thread.
reson46 replied to DirtyComanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I had a buddy that ran the 34" version. I was pretty impressed. Compared to my TrxUs MTs his seemed to do better in the muddy rocks. There were times when he could slowly climb where I would have to use momentum. Willy
