dome/courtesy light help!!!!
mvusse replied to krustyballer16's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
IIRC, black is ground, yellow is always on, pink is on when the doors are open or the override on the light switch is turned. The lights themselves had 3 positions: always off (disconnected), always on (connected to the yellow wire) and on with the doors open or override (connected to the pink wire). Might be wrong on the wires, can't hurt to double check with a test light. -
I ended up swapping front axles a little over a month ago (grenaded everything inside the pumpkin, easiest fix was to replace the entire axle with the one from the parts rig), then had to remove it and install it again 3 weeks later because I ripped a lower control arm bracket half off, turning the other half into an accordion. I have used a pipe wrench with a cheater pipe on it before, I have used ratchet straps before, I have even used a strap and another vehicle (forklift). Also disconnected the rear driveshaft, put it in 4 low and had the truck move the axle for me. The last two times I ended up using the winch. Hook it to the bottom of the inner C and spool it in.

Not ALL (as of now, but maybe later). Chevron Delo 400 LE 15w40. It meets API classification SM for older engines, and still has a cam healthy 1300 ppm zinc count, one of the few remaining. Been using it for years and will continue until the zinc count goes south. They even sell it in Walmart now. :D Mobil 1 high mileage is still API SL, and stocked at Walmart. Most oils advertised for 4 cycle motorcycles are API SF, SG, SJ, but usually higher weight like 15W40.

With 37" tires I would either shave the 14 bolt for added ground clearance, or go with the sterling 10.25 which supposedly has about the same clearance as a shaved 14 bolt.
-
And they disappear fast too. I had a line on a matching D60/10.25" limited slip for $600, but it had sold before I could get back to him.

Electrical gremlins, already!
mvusse replied to Alex V.'s topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I wonder how long it took you to McGuyver the socket when a new one from the help section at Advance Auto Parts costs just a few bucks. -

You may have to pull the inner shaft to have enough room to work with. And the inner shaft has a C clip inside the diff... -

The socket might be bad as well. If there's no ground, it should ground through the turn signal filament. Is your turn signal indicator on the dash lit when your lights are on? 11V measured by a volt meter doesn't mean much. If it's high impedance 11V then the voltage will drop to almost 0 with the relatively (compared to the meter) high current draw from a bulb. Measure the voltage with the bulb in there or use a test light instead of a multi meter. -
I run SOA on the rear with longer shackles and I've been told my truck "flexes like crazy". I can pick any tire up 41" before another lifts, limited by my shocks. With the shocks disconnected I can go more, but then the brake hoses are too short.

Yes, Papa Bears on Dressler Rd.

Actually, you probably want the pinion to be 2 or so degrees low as it will turn up under load. That way it will be parallel cruising down the highway.

How to get better fuel milage?
mvusse replied to Live For God's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
4 cylinder, 5 speed, 3.55 gears (not 4.10 like the 5 speed is supposed to come with) I get 27mpg cruising 60 mph. Doesn't matter if I'm in 4th or in 5th. Makes me think if I slow down a bit (55 mph or so) in 4th gear I might eek out 28mpg. Cruising 75 in 4th gear (before I had a 5th) I got 19mpg, in 5th I get 24. Current average mixed mileage (over 11,000 miles) is 20.28. -

If the check engine light has been triggered, even if it's a minor intermittent problem causing the light to go off again, the error code should still be stored in the computer for the next 50 key off/key on cycles. Take it in whether the light is on or not. -
Any 87-01 with a 6 cylinder andmanual. In order of desirability 95 1/2 - 99 (bigger u joints, non disconnect) Any 92-95 with abs brakes. (big ujoints,non disconnect) 87-91 disconnect . 4 cylinder/manual transmission will have 3.55 or 4.10.

Drive shaft question about swap
mvusse replied to DubbyDoo's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You're going to need a longer shaft. -
In later year Cherokees there was an option that put dummy lights there for axle oil temp, trans fluid temp, fluid levels etc.

In both my 25 year old MJs (read: probably worn out ignition switch) even in the accessory position with the door open if I tug on the key a little the buzzer shuts off and stays off unless I push it back in the fraction that it pulled out. On most cars with the ignition off you can pull the key out far enough to stop the buzzer without completely removing it.

Shafts can be swapped.

Depends on the year. Some are a back lit LCD with a regular bulb behind the display, some use an LED display that is self lit. From your description I believe you have one with a bulb and the bulb has burned out. Quite simple to replace, just remove the dash bezel, then unscrew the clock.

See if you have the switch on your power steering hose that pops RPM up when turning. 2 of mine did and 3 didn't. (same goes with the 12 or so XJs I/family've had) None of my vehicles do.
