So whereabouts does the 8.25 rate between the D35, D44, Ford 8.8 and AMC 20?
-
Right! It stands for Custom, meaning Dana shipped an incomplete assembly to be finished by the car manufacturer.
-
If you go that route, you could also use XJ shackles to drop it another inch or so.

I got mine from Autozone. I know Advance does not have them, but I'm sure there are other Gabriel dealers out there.

I'm from eastern Ahia and most of those things apply to my area as well.

I just checked myself, and found nothing harmful embedded in the page or loaded externally. Maybe your software mistook a random byte sequence in one of the pictures as a virus signature?

Whats a good mud tire for a 2wd?
mvusse replied to jtdesigns's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
A C load rating is the lowest rating LT, but still thicker than a 4 play rated P tire. I think you'll be fine, as you will hit the limit on your suspension before the limit on the tires. The maximum load rating (per tire) should be printed on the sidewall. -
You are doing (have done?) a 4.5" lift, no? I have a 4.5" lift and found the following for shocks: Rear: Monroe #59358, $20.99 a piece at Advance Auto Parts with an extended length center to center of 25" possibly Gabriel #61582 for $21.99 a piece at Autozone, which supposedly measure 25", but not verified. Front: Gabriel #81440 , $14.99 each lifetime warranty from Autozone. They extend from 14 5/8" to 24 5/8", 4" longer than stock shock. The Gabriels for the front are the longest ones in the catalogue and are meant for a compact car, but work good on a Comanche. I didn't have access to a Monroe catalog to see if they have anything longer. Only other option is universal shocks, all of which are way more expensive ($50+ per shock).

I know the OEM, and I believe pretty much all after market ones are designed to fit below the bumper. If you have the bumper off, that would leave a large gap between it and the tailgate.

I have Motion Offroad's rear springs, and the 4.5" leafs should work good with the 4.5" coils. If you are going to haul firewood, they may have a heavy duty version with a higher spring rate, but you'd have to ask them. no experience with Hell Creek.

It is true you usually get what you pay for. It is also true sometimes you pay a premium just for the brand name. There are a number of quality products on the market for the front suspension and steering from makes other than Moog.

started my lift!!!! now some ?'s
mvusse replied to camjeep3's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
To straighten the wheel you adjust the drag link. It has an adjustment for just that function. I maintain that the pitman arm should not need to come off. Be advised that lifting your truck will also cause toe-in, so you either need to realign it yourself, or take the truck in for an alignment after you have done your lift. When I lifted 4.5" it gave me 2" toe-in which caused death wobble severe enough that it fubarred the bearings in the alternator. At only 35-40 mph in town! -

According to the tracking number, my 1.25" spacers arrived today. But I'm 350 miles away from home at the moment... -
Rear shackles length vs. lift?
mvusse replied to Car RamRod's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
With that many leaves, all aged and arched alike, I really do not think you will have to worry about them settling. But the spring rate should be close to twice the stock spring rate. Just what do you consider "not overly stiff"? Anything less than a dump truck leaf pack? :D -
I just filled up for $0.661CDN per liter In American that is $2.065 US/gallon, or 33% more than at home.

New radiator purchase? - MI
mvusse replied to bobweiser's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
:agree: I have dealt with radiators with plastic tanks on my Geo and Suburban, and metal tanks (copper/bronze) on my F100 and Olds 98. Don't know off hand what my Comanche has without looking. My experience with the plastic tanks is not good. I have had to replace the one in the Geo, and have had to replace the one in the Suburban twice. The one in my Oldsmobile has had some problem with a seam between the core and the tank, but that was easily fixed with some solder and a propane torch, and the one of the F*rd never gave me any trouble despite the abuse I put it through. I once asked a radiator shop about fixing the one for the Suburban and the reply was "Not if it has plastic tanks". So I ended up paying $499 (that thing is HUGE) for a new one from Advance. Second one was free because of lifetime warranty. -
I took those photos yesterday after it rained most of the day Saturday with 52 degrees. the creek behind my parents yard is a raging river and some neighbouring towns are partially under water. The snow has noticeably gone down a lot. I think we are left with about a foot now. Detroit didn't have much snow to speak off when I came through Friday.morning. Anyway, I'm going to attempt to visit an old friend of mine Thursday or Friday. If his town is still flooded I'll take some pictures. I know yesterday the main street was closed because it was under water.

All you wanted to know about oil and oil filters
mvusse replied to jtdesigns's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
Do those filters fit the Renix, or the Chryco? They use different threads. And yes, the Purolater PL filters are the Pur-One ones, which I believe are about the best one you can get. The L ones are the regular ones, which are still a lot better than most. -
Did some snow wheeling in the parking lot of a little park across the road here (getting to the parking lot was 3/4 of the fun) and was called an idiot by my mother for doing so. :D
