    Fun huh.....

Wow, that sucks! Glad to hear your mostly okay now, though. I'm mostly in denial, since I'm "only" 38, but I know I don't eat right, and don't nearly get the exercise I need any more. Every once in a while I come across a story or post like this to remind me I really do need to see a doctor to get checked out one of these decades. Just to see how badly I've messed up my body and what to expect if I don't change my habits.

    New ride!

It's a 94. Haven't seen it in person yet, so the pictures may be lying, although I'm hoping they are not. 137,000 miles

    Friggin cold

Yesterday morning I had to take a bath in 10 gallons of hot water I carried from the kitchen to my bathtub as the hot water line to the bathtub had frozen. That was only -14 degrees. Did get the pipe thawed out and prevented it from happening again, though. This morning it's -20 and still dropping. Suburban won't start. Won't even crank, just a click from the solenoid. Coolant is not frozen, and I just drove it 7 hours ago. Comanche started up, though, although the starter was lugging slowly enough that I was wondering for a bit if it would. Guess car batteries like the cold as much as I do.

    New ride!

If all goes well, this will soon be mine: Two bad things: 1 - idiot light cluster 2 - 5 speed stick. Not that bad, but an AW4 would be one more part compatible with the Manche. And off road I prefer an automatic. What gears should this have? 4.0 HO with a 5 speed (AX15?). And yes, I'm keeping the Manche too. The Suburban is getting replaced.
  5. Summit Racing is quite inexpensive as well. 15x8 Soft 8s are $40.
  6. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=6271 I have some welding experience, but could use more practice. I suck with an arc welder, but have had decent results with a borrowed mig. My buddy is licensed and has experience with 20-22 gauge sheetmetal (body work). I usually burn through stuff that thin. Gonna mainly use it to tack stuff together, then take it to a shop to have them finish welding it. Like rear bumper, rocket guards etc.
  7. Don't know what an S10 uses, but all Comanches have 5 on 4.5" bolt spacing. With a 5 bolt pattern you measure from the center of one of the bolts/holes to the center of one that is 2 over. Edit: Google show that a 1994 S10 is 5 on 4.75".
  8. I'm running 4.5" lift and run Gabriel #81440 from Autozone up front, fully extended length is 24 5/8", or 4" longer than stock. They cost me $14.99 each and came with a lifetime warranty. On the back I run Monroe #59358 at $20.99 each from Advance Auto Parts, 25" fully extended. I think Gabriel #61582 should also work, and they are $21.99 at Autozone. They are only 2" longer than stock, but work quite well for my 4.5" lift.
  9. Yup, that's what I saw, but the only thing it said was Rally. Didn't say Compass on it any where. Doesn't look that terribly bad, but it should at least have a Dodge logo on it, not a Jeep one.
  10. Here in Ohio we have snow and ice. A rear lunch box locker will pretty much guarantee fishtails, possibly into another car. But regardless, until I get something better than a D35 in the back, I'm not putting anything in there.
  11. That's not wheeling. Those are better than the Provincial Highways in northern Ontario. And I've driven plenty on those. But oh man! The scenery alone makes it worth it to head out there for a few weeks.
  12. What has this world come to that Jeep can make a vehicle like the Rally? I just saw one today and about crapped my pants when I saw the Jeep logo on it.
  13. DANG! You drive that XJ like I used to drive my Olds 98. Used to love that 307 4bbl.
  14. That's a 4.5" lift and 1.5" rear wheel spacers to keep the inside of the stuffed rear wheel from hitting the inside of the fender well (which was limiting my flex to 3.5" less than I have now). My limiting factor now is the shocks. 2 fully compressed, 2 fully extended. Front shocks I can't really improve without major surgery, but I have half a plan to make the rear flex a bit more. It involves a few tricks including a SOA that will work with my front 4.5" lift for the time being, while allowing the possibility of stepping up to 6.5" later. But all in due time.
  15. Gears will not happen until after I've used up my P235/75R15s. I like the 3.55s with my current tires. And although Colorado (and Utah) wheeling looks awesome from what I've seen, I'm not planning on that until I have a locker AND bigger tires, as well as a selectable locker for the rear D44 I hope to have by then.
  16. Generally tire manufacturers recommend a 10" rim for 12.5" tires. Minimum is 8.5" wheel as per manufacturer, and if you're only going to be driving it on the road I would go with that. But off road you want to be able to lower the pressure without popping the bead, and everyone that responded to my question when I asked a few months back recommends an 8" wheel.
  17. Like the title reads. Most of income tax refund has been spoken for, but some is getting spent. So should I spend ~$600 on a front Aussie locker and a welder to add to my tool collection, or ~$1100 on 5 Soft 8s and 5 33x12.50 play tires. Not that I will definitely go with your opinions, but I'm curious what y'all think.
  18. Doesn't someone here run a stroker with a few add-ons pushing about 300hp?
  19. I run 235/75R15 with a 4.5" lift. It's about the most you can go without the tires looking too small. I might get a set of wheels and 33x12.50 play tires, but still run the 235s on the road until they are bald.
  20. From what I read the 4.0 Renix is happiest with the Champion copper plugs. As far as the rest of the ignition system, I have plenty of power relatively good gas mileage with stock parts, so that's what I'll keep running. I have tried Bosch in most of my vehicles and the only one that was moderately happy with them was my Geo. My Olds 98 and Suburban refused anything but AC Delco. In the Suburban I went through spark plugs every 6 months, 4 different brands until I put the Delcos in. They've been in there for 3 years now and still fine. I am still planning on changing out the injectors for the Ford Motorsports ones, but that doesn't apply to the 2.5 either.
  21. Rear wheel stance with 1.5" spacers installed: And flexing:
  22. 4wd, 4l Renix, AW4 automatic. I average about 17mpg, mostly town driving. Extended highway trips I get 24 at ~60 mph, 19 at ~75 mph.
  23. Especially the caster specs for larger tires.
