2 Flat tires from crap stuck in the bead and a minor dent just above and behind the driver's door when a friendly tree decided to reach out and stop me from flopping the truck onto it's side. Kind of surprised me, really. I thought with the low backspacing and the spacers on the rear wheels, my large track width would make it more stable than it evidently did. Overheating problems on the way home made for a long trip. I'm hoping it was just remaining mud I didn't flush completely out of the radiator, but I have not ruled out the water pump yet.

let's have it, leaf spring from MJ on an XJ?
mvusse replied to MiNi Beast's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Trying Cherokee shackles on my stock MJ spring pack with SOA I found out XJ shackles are too short for the change in spring length between fully drooped (arched down) and fully loaded (flattened out). Compression is limited by the shackle pointing straight back. Under full droop the shackle flips forwards so much it will want to flip up in the forward direction when weight gets back on the wheels. The minimum required length would be somewhere between XJ shackled and MJ ones. -
Well, here's mine. All 10 of them  That last one is an SSR with the top down that passed me on the way back. Couldn't really get the camera ready in time.

if pull-a-part is a new thing to you prepare to be amazed! best junkyards ever! Pull-a-part is not new to me, nor am I new to them. It's just that I have one twenty minutes from my house now, instead od an hour and twenty minutes. Truck's all packed up. As soon as I finish breakfast I'll be on my way to Badlands.

It's morning. Just got my daughter up, and packed the cooler. Now we juts need breakfast, get my daughter off to marching band practice, pack my clothes and I'll be on my way. Guessing ~9:30 or so. Taking it easy on my rear axle, about 60mph the whole way will make for 7 hours driving time. count 30 minutes for breaks, and I should be getting there about 5pm or so.

Need to visit pull-a-part for a passenger mirror, mow the grass, pack and load up. Leaving some time tomorrow morning.

Black gear oil less than a month old, leak at rear axle pinion shaft and inconsistent drive line vibration clued my in my rear pinion shaft has play in it. This will probably end up in all the teeth ground off the pinion gear, which happened to a buddy's TJ years ago. Against better judgement (which I have never had anyway) I am still going to Badlands. I might be in front wheel drive when I get there, though. Thanks to the Aussie I have been able to wheel with a busted front axle shaft before. This weekend I might be wheeling without power to the rear axle... BRING IT ON!

Be aware I'm running half bald street tread 33s on a D35 rear... Although I'm pretty sure it's not C clip, so if I do break a shaft it's not the end of the world. And those 33s still work much better than the 29s did. Add the locker, and okay, I might be considered "nicely built" after all. I do still have to walk over the green trail rock crawl, and dance through the mud by the river bend to get retribution. And I WILL get to that corner wall in the quarry. Even if I have to dig a furrow into the rock bottom with my trailer hitch. 4" more ground clearance, 4" bigger tires, so much more stuff to attempt.

Hmmm, I count 7 on WI4x4 (8 if jeepjerry's back is ok), Dave on here, Anthony on JeepSkool and myself. That makes 10, possibly 11 plus the "almost sure".

Replaced a broken wheel stud, then followed two full size chevys (35s and 38s) around some local property. Yeah, I got stuck. So did the 38s in the same spot a few minutes later :rotf: Lost my passenger side rear view mirror on the freeway somewhere on the way back home  Tomorrow I'll get her ready for Badlands, then hopefully Thursday I will have time to check the local (new!) pull-a-part for a new mirror. If not it'll have to be Friday morning before I leave.

94XJ donor for 87MJ questions
mvusse replied to streetjeep2.5's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
My MJ has a D35, 4.0/auto, 33" tires. Yes, I'm asking for trouble with the 33s, but so far it has survived 6 wheeling trips (including this afternoon for a few hours) on the 33s, and three more before that on 29s. It will soon depart. Gotta get going on that 8.25, as the brake shoes are shot again, and no more warranty on them. 3 sets of brake shoes in 4 months. Sand/gravel and drum brakes don't mix well. But I'm going off on a tangent here. Either way, a D35 will be fine behind a 4.0. Just be nice to it. -
Anyone know? I can't remember.

I'm pretty sure green came to the river. I had to be pulled through the mud right before it. My buddy almost flopped his XJ in that same mud, and Pat got stuck on a log in the river right there. The pipes are like 300 yards downstream from there. I'm pretty sure we went through the pipes in the orange trail as well, the first time I went to Badlands. June sometime I think it was. Either way, JeepSkoolers are dropping like flies. Anthony (xjawgi) and I are both still in. Of the four maybes one is definitely out, no word yet from the other three. And after not having used it in close to a year and not remembering where I'd stored it, I found my safety flag in the second place I looked!
-
You mean PINK? I guess you were serious about rolling it... You're nuts! Quarry woods pipes, lunch, then orange and/or green? We can leave out the pipes by themselves in the morning. I believe both orange and green go through them. Then again, I've only been there twice. Marcel

Have you thought about trading your Comanche for a new Jeep?
mvusse replied to mknherhappy's topic in The Pub
I love my Comanche dearly, but would not hesitate to trade it straight up for a new 4 door JK, or the right TJ or YJ. -
Canadian's Comanche, let see your truck and location !!
mvusse replied to Red 1989 MJ's topic in Canada
I'm Marcel. Technically in Strasburg, OH, but spend quite a bit of time in and around Clinton, On as well. Either hanging out at my parents' house or with old high school friends. -
Wade is staying at Badlands (Red mallcrawler ;) , red Dodge 2500 tow rig with truck bed camper), as is at least one JeepSkooler (grey XJ, lifted 6.5", no front bumper) and myself (gray/black/rust MJ lifted 6.5", no front fender flares). My tent will be easy to spot also. It's a dirty orange canvas square pyramid. Can't miss it. When do you plan on arriving?
-
Well, it certainly LOOKS like a mall crawler. But you wheel it.
-
Well, through circumstances beyond my control, I will not have new Maxxis Bighorns OR Treadwright D-Muds. Just a non-matching set of used ATs. But still, I should have no trouble with that green trail rock crawl or muddy area. With the 4" higher stance and front locker I'm going to attempt to get to that one wall at the quarry again. If I can get to it I know I can climb it. But with my long wheel base and long body behind the rear axle, getting to it is the hard part. I plan to do some playing in the quarry, and need retribution on the (definitely NOT stock friendly) green trail. Are we planning to do the orange as well? Or the mud flats atop the dunes nearby the pipes? Or the mud pits in the trees?
-
i'll make sure to roll it this weekend then If you rolled that red mall crawler that isn't, I would seriously cry.
