thanks, don't remind me. i can't stand ohio weather. its either too hot or too cold. and the winters eat cars in 5 years tops. that is why i am going to por-15 this entire thing then move out west in the future. and we get our street signs from ditches and dump trucks as they are takin the signs down to replace. lol. yes. and if you go to my thread in the projects section for my 91 you will see an even bigger surprise. but only one is full. the other one was getting moved out to the combine then the full one was off to the elevator. the MJ was only being used to move them around the farm, i don't trust that it could handle it all the way to the elevator. i use the K-10 for that. well i am looking for the triangles that go on the inside where the mirrors are. i need the ones that are for the manual remote mirrors. i am also looking for a driver side gray seatbelt, only the female side. mine no longer latches  . i also need the gray trim peices that go from the pillar where the cab lights are along the top of the doors down to the dash or there abouts. and i am search of the plastic peice that runs between the front flares under the bumper. also the gray center cap for the steering wheels with the "hex heads" on them. if you don't mind takin an IOU on those til i get some money back together from selling parts. or if anyone else can get those parts and don't mind an IOU or something. idk, being broke sucks but thats what you get when you own a jeep and you buy a new one in the same month as your girlfriends b-day. lol. you should see all the highway and other street signs i have. and don't ya like those '86 badges? they were all chrome when i got them but i taped off each letter and spray painted them black then some metallic black over that. i also did that with the 4x4 badges and all the other badges that i have not put on this one yet. as for the rollbar lights i am not sure if they are factory or not. i know the foglights are because he gave me the boxes to them. i will look into the rollbar lights, but i don't think they are. and can you believe it, the exhaust is not hanging down. it is setup to bent out and down under the hitch like that. i might hack it off and run it straight back til it needs a new exhaust put on it then i will split it so it has two out the back. oh i also forgot that the windsheild is spider-cracked so it needs replaced before winter. it is in really good shape. not as good as my 86 but very close. there are some holes i need to patch in the bed and it could use a better tailgate. i also need to get that dent in the side fixed. then i also want to switch in an older header panel so i can use the old 10 slot grille from my 86. i also need to make a headliner for this one like i have done with my other two. i will get more pics if anyone wants to see anything else on it like underside, engine, cab, whatever. soon i hope to get the money together to get my umbrella decals for it then those pics will be added here as well. OME shocks for MJ's ?
GirsMJ86 replied to jeepdoggydogB's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
i had these on my 86. i liked the ride. not bad on or off road either. and whatever is on my 91 is not bad but in the future i think i will switch to these also. front; KYB MonoMax Heavy Duty Shocks Image Not Found rear; KYB Gas-a-Just High Performance Shocks Image Not Found Alex -
well i am not sure what year the change was made. but it really does not matter all that much though. but i guess that i will do a header panel swap so i can use my old 10 slot chrome grille. i will have to see what header panels i got with this thing. i know i can put a newer 97+ header on it but will and older one work also, i don't see why not but i am not too sure. ok here is what the corner looks like on my 91. Image Not Found the strip that runs above the grille and headlights is connected to the grille and is one seperate peice around the headlight doors. where on the older MJs the strip was seperate from the grille and was one peice. could i put and older grille, older headlight doors, and trim peices on this thing instead of looking for 91 and up parts? i have an older grille and hedlight doors if that will work. then all i would have to find is the trim peices. or would i have to put a new front clip on to go older? Alex

you guys want pics? well here they are. i just took the camper shell off along with the plastic liner and put the rollbar in. then i decided to join in on the fun around the farm. i still have not done my CAD fix yet but i am off to do that now. if ya want to see more let me know. and the rollbar is only in temp right now. i need to take the bed off so i can drill the holes for the bars behind the cab without going through the gas tank. also you will notice that the roll-in bed liner is coming off and that i have not taken the foam tape off the doors yet from the lower case comanche logos. and oh yea, noone sees the RR Xing sign in the background of that one pic either. Alex

well my dads old blazer was starting to act up, so he sold it. my stepdad is a chevy guy all around and his 00 silverado will go sometime i bet. my dad is a ford guy and his exploder has it and they are known to suck. so other then my MJ and K-10 everyone else i know with trucks has electro crap. and i don't think the chrome strip from the 90 xj will work, but i could be wrong. the whole front end on this 91 is new to me since it is the newest vehicle i have ever owned. Alex

Don't blame you, we sent this to you. eh, at least i am not under 2 feet of snow like buffalo was. i really am not ready for that yet since my 4wd don't work yet. Alex

well that is the reason i am fixing it whenever i get the time down the road. just so i can rub it in all my friends faces who have electric 4x4 systems that cost 400 bucks just to replace the switch if it messes up. lol. . plus with the other two MJs i have had i have restored them to the best i could with what little funds i had while i had them. ok here is one more question. my passenger side headlight door is busted up bad, to the point that the holes for the screws that hold the corner marker in are no longer there. and the strip that was (most the time) chrome on older MJs above ther entire grille and headlights area is also busted. but since CDX changed the front a bit in 91 what years XJ can i look at for parts for this things grille? would the years i need be 91-96? Alex

ok i thought it was on the xcase. i will have to try the washer thing on the visors once it warms up a bit, i am not ready to work on a truck in the cold right now. lol. Alex

a few newbie questions
GirsMJ86 replied to eggofromkiwi's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
i am onto my 3rd one. and let me say that there are tons others on here that own more then one also. the only reason i got rid of my 88 was i wanted 4x4. got rid of my 86 since it had the crap plant 2.8L v6. and now my 91 i have only had for a few days but love it. my 88 was my first vehicle and i don't think i could have picked anything over it except maybe a J-Truck. but i have been really happy with how well these things run on or off the road and how easy they are to work on body or mech wise. i am sure that there will be some others on here to fight me on this but the 2.5 is not very fast on acceleration so highway life is sort of limited to the slower lane or just have fun and tick off people in the fast lane when you want to pass, thats what i did with my 86 8) . but i would say go for it as long as you don't mind workin on it some, but you have to remember it is 20 years old so some rust is expected. well on my 91 there is (i think) a vac leak that is stopping the 4wd from engageing. i am going to do the CAD trick as a temp fix but would like to find the leak sometime down the road. i also am only getting air to blow through the defrost vents no matter what setting it is turned to. so my main question is this, could the two leaks be related somehow? also with the CAD trick will the 4wd light come on once i engage it or not? also is there a way to tighten my sun visors, because they are loose and i don't have the center clips so they fall forward if i have them up. i will get pics in the morning to better show this since it is hard to explain. Alex

ok well i did something to get everything working again. i am not sure what i did other then while i was messing around today i blew some fuses from sticking the wire in places it didnt go i guess. but now everything works and that wire is just stuffed up in my dash now. but i would like to figure out what it goes to. the yellow wire is spliced into the blue/red wire. i guess it will be something i will have to ask rob about. thanks for all your help on trying to figure this out. Alex

well it is really windy here today and snowy on and off. so i won't have pics today either. and the only project i am able to work on is trying to figure out where that stray wire goes so i can get my radio to work. Alex
-
it lives.... again!! ok so anyways. i have the FSMs for my 91. and i now have the VIN list for them also. so here is what it says. Alex
-
man i might have to figure out how to make those things removable and do that to my pallet jack. very cool idea  . Alex

well it is a yellow wire that is spliced into a really short factory wire. so i will have to rip the clock back out in the morning and look. but i think it was a purple one with and orange/pinkish stripe maybe, ICR. ill look in the morning. and it can't be the dimmer wire since it killed the radio, clock, and dome lights. they will not come on at all. not by opening the doors or turning them on with the switch. and the key can be in any spot and not one of the three things comes on. Alex

ok well i was working on my 91, trying to put in my radio, today. well i plugger the radio in and it worked but would not fit in the dash. so i took the dash out and trimmed it so it would fit. then once i hooked the radio back up and shoved it in its place the clock, dome lights, and radio died. so i pulled the radio back out and found a wire was dislodged. it had fallen out of the dash and was hanging down to the floor on the drivers side. i have tried several different connections but can't get the clock or lights to come back on. the wire is connected to the back of the LCD clock on one end and the other end i have no clue where it goes that it would kill the radio and dome lights also. i figured power or illumination but can't seem to get the things to come back on. i will have to get pics in the morning since i don't have any light in the truck to see right now. any light that anyone can shine on this matter would help a bunch 8) . thanks. Alex

ok i now return us to our main topic here. ok so i have the truck but weather has been bad for the last few days. i have not been able to tear into the CAD to "fix" the 4wd. the only thing i was able to do was try to put in my radio but i killed the clock and radio by dislodgeing a wire that i have no clue where it goes. one end is in the back of the clock the other is now hanging out from under the dash and on the drivers side floor now. the stupid parking brake light is also flashing on like crazy so i have to track that short down. the fog lights are not working so those need fixed. the dent in the cab corner will not get done til summer unless i can find some money somewhere or sell some of the TONS-O-PARTS i now have. i also found out that the front headlight doors do not fit from older MJs (which i knew but decided to try) so i need to find a pass side headlight door off an XJ or something 91-(96?). i also need the plastic peice that runs between the front flares below the bumper. i also think the power steering pump is either on its way out or just low on fluid. lowes ran out of the bolts i needed to put the rollbar in so it is just going in with a few bolts for now so it won't move around. once i put the XJ overhaed temp gauge/map lights in, i am going to replace the crappy MJ dome lights with speakers. and now for the moment of truth. feerocknok, now that i have it what kind of pics do you want to see? Alex

well they seem to be fixed for me. i was wondering if it had something to do with the host thing last night that i saw on the yahoo page. thanks pete. Alex -
i am looking for the Tremors truck. can't seem to find one like it though around here and i am not going clear out west to bring it back. so i am going to have to wait til i move out west. it has to be 63-79, swb stepside, 401, small rear window, auto or manual, and would like a levis edition. but hey, ill take what i can get as long as its a stepside non-80s j-truck.
