WTB - Right hand Manual window regulator for an 88.

Looking for a Right hand manual window regulator for my 88. Mine is stripped out and the window will only roll 2/3 of the way down. I can find lots of power window regulators, but nothing about manual ones. Thanks in Advance. Clay Perrine

I am fighting this right now. I did a R134A conversion on my 88 Comanche, and it won't cool. I checked all the pressures on the system, and they are all correct. I have a friend that does Auto AC for a living (I am a retired Porsche Mechanic turned IT guy), and he helped me diagnose it. Seems the dryer is acting like an expansion valve and the refrigerant reaching the evap core is already expanded so no cooling. When I did the conversion, I put those parts in. My friend says I need to take them out and make it an empty fitting for R134a. That would explain the problem with the dryer acting like an expansion valve. And just a note... if you do a R134a conversion, you need to replace the low pressure cutoff switch with one that does both low and high pressure cutoff. R12 systems didn't need it, but the R134a can reach pressures that will blow out the burst disk on the side of the compressor. This switch is a direct replacement for the original one: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/VTA-11079-VUS It even plugs into the original wiring so you don't have to modify anything. You also have to replace the shutoff valves AMC used on the top of the compressor with ones that have R134a charge fittings. There is no clearance to put on adapter fittings.

Tired meaning I am running straight 50 weight oil, and the oil pressure makes maybe 20 PSI cold, and 5 when hot. The engine rattles at startup and a manual oil pressure gauge shows really low pressure all the time. It is now at 299, 850 miles. I am debating the rebuild of it, as I figure the cylinders probably have a ridge at the top, and also time constraints. I have a friend with a Comanche, a Cherokee, and a bunch of other jeeps that is trying to get me to buy a 4.7L long block to put in it. :-P -

1988 2wd Pioneer. Original 4.0 Engine and auto transmission. Valve cover and oil pan have never been off of the motor. 298,900 miles. The motor is very tired and needs rebulit, but I was trying to make 300K before I do it. My father bought it new. I drove him to the dealer to pick it up in 1988. He used it to pull a car trailer with vintage Chevys on it for years. Now it's mine. Only mods was to replace the instrument cluster after the speedometer shelled itself with one from a Cherokee that had a tach, and the radio was replaced. But I still have the original radio a box on the shelf. This is the most current picture I have. It's in the garage this morning to get brakes done. -

I have 298000 on the original 4.0 engine. My father bought it new in 88. I drove him to the dealer to pick it up. Valve cover and pan have never been off the motor. I know it needs either a rebuild or a replacement, as I am running straight 50 weight and it still takes a few seconds for the oil pressure to come up in the morning. It has had a long hard life pulling trailers with very heavy vintage Chevys on them. Question, do I rebuild it with new bearings and rings, or do I just buy a rebuilt 4.0? -
Do I qualify as an original owner? My father bought mine in 1988 in Dallas. I am still driving it. The valve cover and oil pan have never been off, and it is just shy of 300K miles.

My first car was a 1969 Pontiac Firebird. I built a Ram Air IV 400 for it but didn't upgrade the transmission. It let go on Hwy 303 in Arlington Texas, and I did the AAMCO commercial thing and left parts down the road. Ripped the teeth off the ring gear in the Porsche.... drove it home. It made clunking noises all the way. Gonna happen when you push 300HP through a transmission designed for 100HP. The Comanche has had the harmonic balancer fail, the heater control valve pipe split open,and the alternator fail.... and I had the trans cooler line come off the radiator because of a broken hose clamp.

That would be like asking if anyone here has pictures of their truck... :laughin: This is me playing race car driver in my 914-6. For what it's worth, I built this car from a basket case to what you see here. And it is not finished yet. This one is the wife's 914. 1974. 350,000 miles with working AC. She drives it to work every day. We drove it to Salt Lake City last July for a Porsche event.

Tried that.. the radio plays fine, but cassette player doesn't work. My dad never used it, and when I tried it, it would not work. So I changed the radio. I kept the original radio in case I ever found either someone who wanted it, or I decided to put it back.

Okay, I Give Up, I Need Help!

I am no expert, but I have been working on mine since it was new. I have always had to pull the IAC every so often and clean the passages out. Seems that dirt would cause the pintle on the IAC to stick, and then I would get a high idle. Try pulling the air intake, and the IAC, and spray with carb cleaner until all the black gunk is gone. That always fixes mine. -
More pictures: Interior: It's all original with the exception of the headliner. I even have the factory Jeep AM/FM/Cassette in a box in my garage. It still works, but I wanted to be able to use my mp3 files.

I have a question for the experts. One of my pet peeves with my 88 Pioneer is the gauges. It has all the gauges, but no tach, and the speedo is a 85 mph one. Which gauge set would get me a tach and a speedo with a higher number? Thanks!

Having been a sports car nut for years, I can remember watching the Comanches run at an SCCA event in Dallas. I was interested at the time because my father had just bought the Comanche I now own. I was an SCCA corner worker, and I got to work a flag station on the main straight. The big, square box design of the Comanche was an "aerodynamic limiter" to the top speed. So, as was stated before, the Comanche drivers would work together. They would come out of the turn to the main straight, and the guy behind, because he was in the wake of the guy in front had more top speed. So he would slam into the rear of the guy in front, bumping the front truck's top speed up. Once the guy in front got the nudge, he could hold the speed. I don't remember who, but someone dubbed this "crash drafting". Seemed it only worked with the Jeeps though. The Ford guys tried it and after 3 laps they knocked the rear bumper off the front truck, and it took out the oil pan on the back truck. They had to red flag that practice session to clean the oil off the track. Corner worker credentials granted me access to any part of the race track, even when i was not working. I remember looking at the trucks in the pits. Somewhere I have 35mm prints from the pits at that race.

Mine is in a garage with a 10 ft ceiling. Had it specially made at a local manufacturer. 2K installed. Have to watch the ceiling when lifting anything, but I can get almost everything I own up high enough to stand under. (Disclamer: I am 5'6" tall).
