Round 2 an 88/99 This Time a Much Nicer Version
Jeepman replied to Jeepman's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Ha Ha... I was surprised When The guy told me it had the heated leather seats which was a nice bonus for me... I bought the Jeep knowing it had all the options I wanted for my MJ conversion... - Power Windows - Power Door Locks - Cruise - A/C - Black Interior - Power Heated Mirrors - Power Heated Seats - Overhead Console - Working Key Fob - Sentry System - NP242 - 4.0L - AW4 I Learned the first time I built my Current MJ to make sure for the next one to have every Option I wanted in my Jeep... -
Round 2 an 88/99 This Time a Much Nicer Version

My Donor XJ just showed up today so I can get back to my MJ Conversion.... A Little Dirty inside because the guy had Dogs but nothing that can not be cleaned up... Heated Seats and Faux Woodgrain Dash Piece -
86 2.5s were external slave. 87-94 2.5s were internal slave. Good to know... I did not have a chance to look up the Parts sheet however the Mopar Parts Listing says the Line is Shared from 84-88 so I am sure it is close enough to make work...

It needs to flexable for the engine/trans movement the pressure has nothing to do...

Head light conversion question
Jeepman replied to ICEBOX's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
But you are just anybody on the net and I did not say it was fruitless for YOU to do what YOU felt you needed to do You are not understanding what I have writen and please stop taking offence as if the world here rides on your shoulders... I would gladly install one when I see fit No sooner and no later because I do not install things just cuz someone says so without verifying I need to... Is it cheap insurance sure is and I will say it again "if someone feels they need to do it then I would say do it... My point now is no different then before, Not every jeep will require a relay harness upgrade for every aplication... I have no idea who you are or what you know but no matter who you are or who I am proof is in the pudding so to speak... The next chance I get to do another meter reading on my Jeep or any other one that roles thru my Shop I will test it to see what the Real world numbers are for it BUT that will still only conclude that that Jeep and ONLY that Jeep will or will not require an upgrade it by no means says that ALL Jeeps MUST have the upgrade... This has been an interesting debate and I do apologize if you did not understand my point as well as if I offended you and in any way... -
Head light conversion question
Jeepman replied to ICEBOX's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I am not trying to discourage anyone Just to help with information... It matters not to me if you or anyone else has added a relay harness because you feel you needed it or you think you saw a difference... But I do not like when someone runs out and adds something to thier truck just because some guy on the internet said so... It is just a matter of the proof and your only telling me "cuz I did it and I saw a difference and go look at all the internet sites that say you should" is great for you but it is NOT A Proof... Where as I am sating to that same person test your truck to so if you need it... OH and I Have metered my Truck the last time I was involved in a discussion about H4 conversion here on CC and the voltage loss was so minimal I did not even write it down for future reference so I have done my due diligence and just think others should do the same before spending hard erned money which Is harder to come by for Many american and even some canadians these days... So to anyone who is thinking of such a swap just take a few minutes and test and see if in FACT your Truck has enough of a loss to require spending $30.00 or so on a relay kit that may not even be necessary FOR THEM... -
I am pretty sure it should be the same clutch line as an 87 so check for that and I know Rock auto has them available from 87+

Head light conversion question
Jeepman replied to ICEBOX's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The AMP's are not increasing so you make no sense... The Stock Sealed beam lamp is 55W Low beam = 4.5 AMPS Per lamp = 9 AMPS combined 65W high beam = 5.4 AMPS Per lamp = 10.8 AMPS combined An H4 is still a 55W low beam and a 65W high beam so it is NOT pulling more current unless you run Highe Wattage lamps... -

I could care less if you fry your wiring either... And Just because it is on the internet does not mean it is the correct information... I add my Info Because I am not a believer in blanketing everyone with one issue that someone has had with there vehicle... Finally someone understands what I am talking about Age and abuse will take a toll But does not mean everyone’s jeeps has had the same abuse over the years SO Technically speaking not everyone will or does require a relay harness to combat voltage loss... -

Jeepman replied to ICEBOX's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
This Means Nothing... I have rebuild dozens of Jeeps and repaired 1000's of them Do an actual Voltage reading or get a light meter and record the lumen ouput numbers otherwise it is purely your guess rather then an actual improvement but once again I will sate that if someone thinks they need it do it... I am only giving the information so Every Jeep will differ due to previous proplems or what ever the years may have done to your wiring but the fact is if there is NO voltage loss then there will be NO improvement in a relay harness... -
Ahh Ok I see... Nice job with the improv...

Head light conversion question
Jeepman replied to ICEBOX's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Have you ever just added the harness to a stock Jeep and seen the improvement like myself and others have? It's a known fact that the stock headlamp switches and connectors fail on these rigs with stock lamps. Why tempt fate and have reduced headlamp output by not upgrading the harness? Sorry never... I do not agree that it is a FACT... Yes stock harness's and connectors can fail maybe in some area`s more then others as different parts of the world have different faults... I do not believe that it will increase light output with just the harness the Voltage loss to the headlights thru the factory switch is not enough to weaken the lights... Factory wiring is rated 20 AMPS per Light output (both low Beams or Both High beams) 84-96 Stock Low Beam 55W is 4.5amps 9amps with both lights Stock High Beam 65W is 5.4amps 10.8 with both lights... The H4 conversion using STOCK WATTAGE lamps is not going to pull anymore power then a stock sealed beam lamp but it does give off a better light because of it`s design... I have yet to see any number from anyone debating that a relay harness is needed and showing proper proof... Like other wiring debates On CC I have never said it is a bad idea to use a relay harness because I believe if you think you need it then use it but I will say again that it is NOT mandatory... Every Jeep is different due to unforseen repairs and damages so I would suggest taking a voltage reading at the headlight harness to measure what your actually getting to know if in fact you have a large enough voltage loss at the connector to worry about it... As for where to get the Relay harness I can not say for sure, I get them from my HID Supplier in CHINA and have a few in stock but have yet to need to use one... Good luck with which ever you decide to do... -

Jeepman replied to ICEBOX's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I do not agree that a harness upgrade is mandatory, I have installed hundreds of these H4's with Stock watage lamps and Upgraded 80/100 lamps with ZERO melted harness's However if your a worry wart then Spend the few extra bucks and upgrade the harness... -
Nice job But You could saved yourself the work and just use the Dakota filler tube as it is removable and can be flexable...

Jeepman replied to ICEBOX's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The first thing I tell anyone to upgrade on their Jeep is the Headlights... I run these H4 Conversion lights from Omix-ada These are sold as a pair with Lamps... I upgraded mine to High/Low HID's and am very happy... -

Nice I look forward to the progress of this build... -
oh you can leave it at that, ive only heard good things about them. care to go into detail I Would not ever recommend them because They are Not Honest or just plain tried to take my money without ever giving me the product... Other Canadians have had Similar problems so I have to believe that they Just do not want to ship to Canada but rather then being honest about it they take our money then make us wait and wait and wait till we stir up enough trouble then they refund the money without a single explaination as to what or why they were making us wait... For some reason or another some people Just do not want to ship outside thier own country and that Is fine with me But Just be honest about it... If You are in the US I doubt you will have a problem with them other then the lack of good communication...

If you have the wiring then Yes you can just plug them in and they will work... I had done exactly this with my 89 when it was still an 89 interior...

Hamptonville, NC $10,000
Jeepman replied to saltyman413's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
:agree: Other then a sandblasted body there is nothing special here as many have done the 97+ conversion and yes not many if any have gone the blasting route but there is nothing rare or special about this MJ... $5000-$6000 I can see if there wre more custom stuff to it sure to get $10,000 and I am sure that YJ on 36\s had upgraded axles and transmission where as I did not read anything about custom axles or suspension with the MJ... -

Jeepman replied to saltyman413's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
Nice but no way he would get $10,000 for it... If So I am going to start building them and selling them down south... -
Yes that is One place but I would Never recommend them to anyone especially if you are Canadian... I have had first hand experience with them and Never again.... Once you know what vehicle to look up you can use this to find the part numbers and get your local Auto parts store to get you them in... http://www.showmetheparts.com/autoline/# As the engine wears it loses power and when it loses power your current injectors tend to dump more fuel then the engine uses which is why I said your not likley to see any gains, but if your current injectors are faulty then you will see a large gain and really untill you swap them out you will not know for sure either way... Good luck and By all means do a pre test of your mileage before you swap them and after to see some real world numbers for others to gain from...

What was stock on 89 Metric Ton (Thinking of buying)
Jeepman replied to Timmmmmy's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yup Anything 88 and Older is NO longer in the system... I too have access to this information and there was a weblink which I no longer remember that did it for you online... -
Well it would ultimately depend on what size and style they are now? You said 1997 Engine but that does not tell me what it is in... If the engine is losing power because of wear and tear then an injector upgrade is not going to really help you much and will likely just cost you more wasted fuel... There are a few over the counter Rebuilt injectors (more like reconditioned injectors) that have the multi hole orface which is better for misting the fuel instead of squirting it and will keep the same volume and psi... I would say get the part number of your current injector and then it can be easier to assist you in the right direction... There is a thread here on CC that involved exactly what your looking for I just do not remember who it was and he got his injectors from Ebay...
