Electric Fan Power Wire ?
SuperWade2 replied to SuperWade2's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
umm...no I don't have an open system (as far as I know)... I still have the overflow tank, I don't have a rad cap, etc... I can't say that my rad wasn't replaced by the previous owner at some point...above the lower rad hose (on the driver side), there isn't any other port or anything -

Electric Fan Power Wire ?

Or I could kick on my AC (which I haven't touched in a LONG time since the coolant was low) and see what happens when it warms up...didn't think about that... -
Name that Tune in "x" Notes? (Audio of Engine!)

It was cool'ish, but it pretty much sounds like that all of time, hot/cold or otherwise! if you have the money/time for an overhaul and don't mind spending it, i see no reason not to. Even without the noise you're hearing, the motor is 20 years old and i'm sure could use going through. if you're not in the position to overhaul it, or don't want to; i don't see that it's to much to worry about. at this point you could check oil pressure and possibly do a pump, rod bearings and a rear main just dropping the pan which would cover your bottom end and should be easy-ish. third option would be let it eat til it quits. chances are its been doing it for years and will continue on for years before it goes kaput. Option 3 is the most realistic in my current position right now... -

The guys that have been around CC.Com a while have heard me constantly piss and moan about my engine knock and how I need to swap engines, etc. Since all but a couple of you guys aren't close enough to come help me wrench on the truck, I thought I would record the knock and get the collective opinion of the ComancheClub brethren as to how much I really should worry about this. The Video isn't important...listen to the audio... http://www.leishman.net/videos/knock.mp4 Thoughts?

I've never seen my electric fan actually turn on (I don't know that it doesn't come on, but I've just never seen it spin, even when the engine was warmed up, but I could have just missed it), so while I had my airbox and junk out to fix my Vacuum lines, was wanted to take a look. There is one Connector with Red/Black Wire, similar connector with Yellow/Tan and then there is what appears to have been spliced an inline fuse (wrapped in electrical tape there in the middle). The Red/Black wire connector was connected before I took the pic. Which one should be connected, and what's the other pair for? Is the inline fuse OEM, or something one of the goofy previous owners might have wired up? Any ideas? Thanks SW2

Thanks Don...can you get me a closer pic of your "notches"? It almost looks like you cut out a little square and there is still connected plastic under your hooks. I'm going with the D-ring/Shackle mounts as I prefer those, and I don't plan on leaving the rings attached all of the time.

I'm thinking Notch First, and if I hate it, take it the rest of the way off...kind of like a hair cut, it's easy to remove more if it's not short enough, but harder to go the other way around. The Tow hooks have been ordered, so I expect will be here sometime next week... Wade

If the truck barely hits 80mph without shaking itself to death, why do you need a 120MPH speedo? :rotfl2: I think mine would blow up at anywhere north of 65mph... :headpop:

Good enough for Wade #1, Good enough for Wade #2... thanks! SW2

Thanks, Nope, was done with the Dupli-color spray truck bed liner on the bumper and Kylon Fusion on the endcaps (I think)

What's that lower plastic piece under the Front Bumper called? I'm considering chopping it out, I'm sure guys have talked about here before and it requires some trimming of the Front edge of the fender flares. If I'm going to get front tow hooks, it looks like they require you to notch that thing anyhow, so I thought it might just look better if it were removed... Thoughts? SW2

Now that I more or less decided I'm going to stick out the whole MJ thing, i've been thinking about what I'd like to do with it. I have some immediate things that I need to get finished before I do anything else; 1) Replacing Main Vacuum Harness so my EGR Valve works so I pass Smog and can register the MJ 2) Try to somehow patch the rust spot under the dash - I still don't really know how... I don't really want to pull the whole dash if I don't have too. I have some Auto Body Seam Sealer Stuff that I was thinking about getting up under there and see if I can spread it out enough under the dash and up inside the cowl area where it's coming though. I know it's not great, but I surely can't easily cut out the bad area and replace. Luckily we don't have salt and only rainy a few month out of the year, but the spot in that cowl area was about 6"x6" and pretty rotted out. 3) Reinstall Interior once I'm satisfied that the leaks are more or less done Next the Knock in my Engine seems to be getting Much much worse. It's done it since I bought it, assumed it was just lifters rattling around, now I don't really know for sure...maybe I'll try to get a video with some audio and post here once I get it running again. I also get a pretty good clunk/chunk type sound when I'm going into gear and moving, either FW or Rev. Not sure if that's clutch/tranny or what, but that noise is separate from the engine knock/rattle. So I've been sort of on the lookout for a lower mileage (100Kish) XJ that I might be able to pick up and think about getting the guys from my Jeep Club to help me with an engine swap. So far, not looked very seriously, but the though has crossed my mind. I guess a create engine or stroker isn't out of the question if it's something I could buy and just get installed, but unless the money tree starts blooming, I think a <$1000 XJ with a lower milage 4.0 is sure going to be the more economical way to think about going. I'd still swap my AX15 for an Auto in a minute too if I work it into the deal. If I can get the engine running better, I also am considered trying to take the MJ out Wheeling (really for the first time) to either Holister Hills or Pismo Beach. If I go with my club guys, I'll get a ration of Poo if I don't have front and rear tow points. For Fronts, I think I'm just going to go with the Hi Country Ones... http://store.hicountryoffroad.com/Xtrem ... _p_41.html In the Rear, the options are basically new rear bumper or hitch. I hate to spend $300, but the JCROffroad ones seems like a good place to start. I'm guessing I could get someone on here that would be interested in my OEM black one which is in pretty nice shape (that I got from JeepCoMJ a while back), so that would offset at least a little bit of that $. I'd still eventually like to get a "real" lift for it as well... My thought eventually is take the 33" Gambler Rims with Mickey Thompson MTZ's off my TJ (once I can afford 35"s and new Beadlock Rims for the TJ) and install on my MJ. I know I'd need a pretty good bump in my lift size to comfortable get those 33's under there. So I guess long story short, it's good that I at least am thinking about things again. I don't have much extra $$$ right now, so i'll do the cheap/free stuff first, hope the engine/tranny holds up and tuck away a few pennies here and there to see about some upgrades as they come up. After spending a few minutes starting at the service manual and my goofy vacuum line setup, I"m pretty sure it was wrong, WAY WAY Wrong...there were all kinds of extensions and stuff plugged into the wrong spots etc. I don't know how it passed last time, or who the idiot that owned this before me was, but it was really screwy. The right side of my main vacuum block looks like it has multiple busts pieces broke off inside the line ports and there were some things that were just flat wrong. So 2 ?'s A) Does anyone have a Main Vacuum Block thingy they'd be willing to send me for cheap B) Does someone have a decent pic of the block and where everything is supposed to run (I see the schematic of the lines, but it doesn't cover the vac block thing) this is pretty much the only things I can find, and they both kind of suck... there are 6 ports on either side of that main vac block (is that even the right term?)

Ask if you can post/share the pics... I think Pete saw the truck but it didn't sound like he was able take pics (or if he took pics, he can't post em)...

Figures... Is there anything "easy" I can check? It passed 2 years ago when I had to do it last time. I either get to fix on my own and then go back and pay the $50 to test again, or I can pay them $90/hr to diagnose and fix and not have to pay for the re-check. My tags are already 2 months expired and I can't renew until it passes the Smog check.
