I just had a big thing written up with a good bit of info but my internet freaked and refreshed...dammit. summary of what I was saying. mk1 rabbit (golf) w/ 1.6l idi naturally apsirated at 1471 gross lbs gets a good solid 42 mpg (at least mine did and I drove the piss out of it. 91 4wd(I think) comanche w/ i6 engine at 2898 gross lbs and the mk1 rabbit is as much of a brick as the comanche, the coefficient drag of the rabbit is .42, so basically a brick, not sure of the comanche as I cannot find it. all in all, the current or anything past 04 vw tdi would rock the socks off a comanche or fuel mileage imho.

although it is all you can afford right now, I suggest not either. I do have a mosin, but you do not want to hunt with an FMJ bullet, especially if you don't like finding bits of steel and copper in your meet and the fact that the mil.surplus ammo uses a berdan primer w/corrosive powder which equals a biatch of a time cleaning it because you have to use ammonia or some other very strong cleaning solution to fully clean out the corrosives from the rifle because that powder will actually eat away at the barrel. if you do decide to get a mosin though, there is a czech company called Sellier & Bellot. It is a soft point bullet, bulltet wieght is 11.7 grams at 180 grains of powder. Plus that stuff cycles through the weapon way better than the surplus stuff and if you have the equipment, you can reload in S&B ammo whereas the surplus stuff you cannot. The S&B ammo is in a box that looks alot like a box of remington ammo...yellow stripe on tope and green bottom http://www.natchezss.com/Ammo.cfm?contentID=productDetail&brand=ZY&prodID=ZYSBA76207&prodTitle=Sellier%20and%20Bellot%207.62x54R%20180%20gr%20SP%2020/box as an example.

MJ - Off Road V2 Fender Flares
huck731 replied to jdougn's topic in Vendors- members making products for MJs
I like the looks of these flares, time to start saving spare pennies so I can get these and hide the wheel well rust on the bed. -
well I was going to mount the cb radio in the centercounsel storage thing, but I don't like how tall it is. (radio is a cobra 29 ltd classic.) and I can really find any place I like because how how large the radio is in comparison to the interior of the truck. I think I may mount it behind the center counsel, but that inhibits my ability to store larger items back there, I am also considering a traditional top center windshield mount like in a semi truck. not sure yet though.

here is a picture I just did for my profile, thought I'd share the full scale pic. Image Not Found I have decided to keep the bucket seats soly based on where I am mounting my cb radio. but these factory cherokee buckets suck big time, I am going to try and fab some brackets so I can install a nice set of bucket seats out of a vw. cb mount shall come this week hopefully, all pending on if I can find my missing coax cable.

I just read that they are expecting 22 foot waves to hit chicago from lake michigan, this damned storm has some reach.

the vw diesel is an extremely powerful engine, there is an entire race circuit built around that car. very good all around motors.

1986 MJ 2.5L 4x4 | "Heavy Four"
huck731 replied to 87Warrior's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
nice build. I think I may use alot of your build info to influence mine. namely the 2x4 1/4" wall tube steel for the rockers. My cb radio is a cobra 25 ltd classic so I cannot mount it like you did, but I already have a nice place planned for it. what size are those rims and what size tires are you running? I hate the base model stock steelies on the 2.5l along with the tiny as crap 205/55-r15 tires on it. -
ok, I finally have pictures of my mj. I have owned it for one week now and I still like it as much as I did day one. I have already replaced the 15 year old sony explode door speakers with a nice set of polk audio door speakers. I will be installing my alpine headunit as soon as I get a new adapter cable for it. I will also be installing a cb radio, so if anyone has suggestions on where to place the radio and antennea, that would be appreciated. you may notice the ton of rust it has, but I have already brought home some 20-22 gauge sheet metal from work (sheet metal union) to do floor pan and rocker repair. I also plan on doing a custom paint job once the metal work is all finished. future plans for this truck once I get a new car in about 2 years are as follows: ax15 w/ 4wd dana 44 rear end 4" lift Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found more to come later, photobucket (moreso my super crappy internet) is not cooperating with me.

The worlds Fastest Comanche
huck731 replied to Worlds Fastest Comanche's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
so what happened to this truck? it's past the first week of october 2012 and no update about speed week? -
right now I am mainly looking for replacement floor pans and rockers, although I have been bringing home scrap steel from work ,(20 guage, I work in the sheet metal union).
-
ok, coming from the vw world I am used to many different companies out there that have tons of aftermarket/oem replacement parts. What are some websites that should be in my favorites tab for the comanche or universal jeep parts? side note: right now I am dd'ing this truck untill I get back from an upcoming deployment when I willbe buying a brand new car, then I can have fun with the jeep.

If I may also interject into this thread, what is a good plug to use period on the 2.5? I prefer NGK plugs, but that has been in vw's and honda motorcycles.
-
ask and you shall recieve. Hmmm, this was a 91, that means it could also work in a comanche..... http://www.hpamotorsport.com/tdijeep.htm

funny because the town I actually live in is dekorra, wi well a big vw company ( hpa motorsports) did a vw tdi powered wrangler abotu 2 years ago. well now that I have a decent vehicle I can get there more often. I actually live about 2 miles from a yard that has a decent amount of jeeps from what I'm told.

it's been raining for the past few days and no noticable leaks on the windshield seal

Tire size / Gear Ratio / RPM
huck731 replied to Eagle's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
if my thinking is correct, the less revolutions per mile, the better my fuel economy will be right? right now I am running 205/65/r15's and the look awckwardly small but the previous owner said he gets 25mpg's and his wife can get 28. -
So I did a little lurking before I decided to join the forums here and immedietly ran outside to check under the carpet for rust as was advised in the sticky thread. go figure, there is rust, and the sound deadening mat is soaked. aside from need to weld in some patch panels, what about the carpet? how do I prevent thsi from continuing to happen?

Hey ya'll. I just thought I'd drop on in here to introduce myself, huck731 (scott) from the portage area in wisconsin. just bought my 91 comanche SporTruck saturday. I have long been a fna of these trucks because they are fairly unique to the brand as basically the only pickup jeep has made in a long time. I come to the jeep community for the euro car scene (I also own a 71 super beetle and have always owned a vw since I was 17.). see ya'll on the forums.
