  1. Lifted the front of the comanche another 1.5-2 inches to level it out. Finally have it at the stance where I want it. Got my front end aligned but need to go back later this week.....steering wheel is still upside down, and still have a lot of play so I ordered a Durango box that will go in as soon as it gets here. Also ordered a new speedo gear to correct the speedometer. Death wobble is better but still can't go over 45
  2. Got my new shield put in with the 97+ trim, and dropped her off for a front end alignment this am. few random pics Actually looks like a truck now lol . :MJ 1: .
  3. Well no good updates tonight...drove the Manche to work so I can get my shield installed in the morning and the death wobble was horrible, power steering works when it wants to....and all in the process she caught fire. Luckily I was able to hit the median, pop the hood and get it out. Battery jumped loose during the wobble and was caught against the hood ;(
  4. Had some time this week and decided to add some speakers and tweeters Alpine Type R's had a power steering leak, and decided to change everything while i was in there ( durango gear box is in the future) And installed, my power steering fluid is really bubbly and it still squeeks but no leaks, think it might be spinning the wrong way with the belt.... going have to have to investigate this tomorrow Rims and tires installed don't mind the duct tape, have some leaks due to no trim, but getting the 97+ trim and shield installed Friday along with a front end alignment More to come, pictures don't do the jeep justice with the cell phone flash
  5. Well i had a great weekend, comanche runs and drives great, No leaks and everything looks good, Just need a new p/s pump since mine is shot. Did not take too many pictures and a video yet. Got dark fast tonight Here are some misc pics Finally trimmed my engine mount bolt and got my oil filter on Installed a 2004 wj coolant bottle, Looks more factory then the one i had before Drove her to the exhaust shop to get my down pipe welded to the rest of the exhaust And went to work on my day off to mount my rims and tires up Saldy thats all i have for now, The new tires and rims lifted my mj about 2 inches from the fender to the floor all around. Next on the list is to put my interior back together ( wiring issues all fixed now), Get a front alignment, a 97+ shield installed so my pass side floor does not get flooded again, and level the front of my jeep out but going 1.5 inches more And if everything goes real smooth pickup/install my rear bumper, and install my frount hitch i got for christmas
  6. Are those seats out of a 2 door? If not how did you get them to fold forward so much? Try some grease lightening on those stains, I've had yet to have a stain not come out using that stuff. Keep up the good work
  7. Holy #|%^ the comanche started up today and pured like a kitten, no leaks anywhere that I saw. Sadly no pics or video till tomorrow, whet to get the down pipe welded and had to leave it overnight since the exhaust donut had to be ordered
  8. nice jeep to start with, besides all the issues listed looks like a really good platform and clean body. Look forward to seeing this build as your previous one was one of my favorites
  9. did not get as far as i planned, went out saturday night and got a lil banged up lol. Got all the sensors and accessories swapped over, just need to swap over the flex plate dust shield, which i relized after i mounted the trans to the motor. few pictures, nothing too crazy, more to come this week Image Not Found
  10. thanks, i hope this one purrs like kitten 8)
  11. Bought some new 4 hole injectors to go with the new engine Cleaned and painted the fuel rail and misc Installed the rest of the pulley's and fan New fuel regulator Installed injectors and rail and pulled my engine, everything came out smoothly with only one broken piece, PVC but not the end of the world and then the engine/tranny/t-case fell off the hoise, dropped like 5 feet and spilled out all over the place, Luckily no one was hurt, just a few black and blues lol (notice all the oil and speedy dry) Should have everything swapped over and installed tomorrow stay tuned
  12. well started to strip my motor of the acessories, pretty sad tearing into all my hard work i did, but hopefully will be worth it in the end. Few pictures of the tare down Installed most of my brackets and acessories The manifold upgrade went on like a charm, i was worried about the p/s setup, but it was a direct bolt on with the newer ps pump and bracket. should have the rest of the acessories on tomorrow then i will start swapping sensors, and all that fun stuff
  13. well its been awhile since i updated, been busy with work and not in the mood for the comanche, Well I'm at it again and here are some pictures and plans the original engine is giving me too many issues and and the tranny is lazy. Ive put too much time and money into this bueaty and she needs to be right Factory nos aw4 tranny 1988 xj engine with 51k original miles Plans- strip accessories clean & paint get ho heads re-done Install ho heads ho intake & exhaust manifolds new 4 hole injectors install new freeze plugs and gaskets Swap all brackets and acessories from old motor Will be swapping in this weekend with some luck on my side few pictures Does not look like a 51k engine, but its been sitting for years and i know all he history on it ( been in the family since new) and i also scorred these limited xj seats with matching door panels for a steal not sure what I'm going to do with the seats or panels yet. more to come
  14. that makes scense, if you decide to fab up a secret compartment I hope you do a write up. Always wanted to do one of those
  15. Did you get the 4wd lever to line up with the console? I tried to install a 98 zj console and could not get both the shifters to line up
  16. Just an idea, but why not mount the glove box cover there for looks and try to remove the airbag cover and make an compartment behind it? Would be a pretty cool hidden compartment
  17. Here a few from when I had the bed off
  18. haha it says it fits 1990-1993 jeep cherokee with a 2.5 or 4.0 engine but i can't find much info on it Ughhh, now you mention that. :ack: Without actually being i can't really gauge if it would still be worth the risk. Either way i vote junkyard engine, simply for convience and cost sake. Just my 2 cents. I have no idea what 3040le is. :???: Why on earth did you google that?
  19. the jeep was achually my uncles when he passed and it slowly made its way to my uncles junkyard. The only thing is its been sitting for a long time and i don't know if anything fell down inside it ( its missings its valve cover, thermostat housing, spark plugs ect. i would deffently get the head redone before i put it on the block. The head on ebay for 545 didnt seem too bad consider my local shop would charge me around $300 to get it redone. I don't know too much about trans but i google 3040le, it says that is an aw4 tranny or am i crazy :dunno: A Renix with that low of miles is a real find. I would be looking at that thing very hard, especially if you know it ran and ran well when it was parked. Why was it even brought in? Keep in mind that even if you get a junkyard motor it can be cleaned up and painted so that it shines like a new penny. That one for $500 was just the short block right? IF you did go that route i would definately find a 7120 cast head and have it cleaned up/machined and not just slap an old dirty, oil caked head on a brand spanking new short block. That just aint write. :shake: As far as trans i would stick with the AW4 for simplicities sake, but i will be honest i don't have much to offer you in the way of advise as far as best years and such. I have never owned or driven a jeep with one, but they are known the world over as one of, if not the best auto ever to be put in a jeep. Just make sure you have a good size trans cooler if you do go with an AW4
  20. thanks for the reply, thats the original route i wanted to take, but after a year of building her its a punch to the stomach now that its done and needs major work. We do have a really low mileage 88 xj motor there with only 51k on it, ran great before being parked back in 1993. Starting to think a renix block with ho heads is the way to go. Any recommendations on a trans? The one on ebay for $500 with free shipping and no core seems like a steal.
  21. Quick short story, After a year of building my Comanche it is just about road worthy, just needs a front alignment and a few things buttoned up. I bought the truck with out hearing it run and with the trans in the bed. It finally came back to bite me I would like to spend no more then $2k on engine and $700 on a tranny I also work at a junkyard and have access to used engine and tranny's, but would like to go the reman route specs- 1990 jeep Comanche lwb 4.0 4wd auto After driving it locally ( 25 miles total ) ive come to the conclusion that the motor will eventually need a top end rebuild and the trans has its own issues ( slow to get going and to shift into 1st) Ive replaced the rear main seal 2x and it still leaks, and as of today i checked the oil which is milky and she smokes white when running ( not heavy clouds but deff noticeable). I pulled the plugs and they also have oil on them. build thread http://comancheclub.com/topic/36077-my-first-mj-build-project-restore-runs45-lift/ I am now looking at reman blocks and heads and reman trannies, but not sure which would be the best option. i don't mind doing some rewiring Here are a few options i found trannys- http://www.ebay.com/itm/161149724506?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 great price for a new trans or i could piece a motor together for a decent price price would come out to $1435 head http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-JEEP-CHEROKEE-LAREDO-4-0-0331-CYLINDER-HEAD-VALVE-SIZE-INT-2-02-EX-1-62-/160939581907?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Make%3AJeep&hash=item2578bf21d3&vxp=mtr block http://www.ebay.com/itm/Jeep-4-0-Short-Block-1987-1990-/271003191283?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Make%3AJeep&hash=item3f190c87f3&vxp=mtr let me know what your opinions are, id love to do a diesel but don't have the funds...
