  2. Sorry to hijack the thread, but I think I might have a similar issue... today, I helped someone pick up their tools from the shop they just quit at, and when I went to start it after we got the toolbox in, I got nothing at all from the starter, not even a click (a little embarrassing, and awkward since I was parked right in front of the Crappy Tire's garage door...). We pushed it out of the way, and just for the hell of it I tried it again and it fired right up. I've started the truck three times since today and not had an issue. I'm thinking it might also be a ground issue (maybe? all I can think of really) but don't know what to check beyond the main ground at the battery. (91, 4.0 HO, auto, 4x4 lwb)
  3. Unless it's a fancy-dancy non-paper envelope, it's not really indestructible if it falls apart the first time it goes through a puddle... But yeah, those bubble-wrap envelopes can be a b*@$£ sometimes.
  4. Looks pretty good. The tires look way too huge though, for the size of the wheel wells. The o.d. and the flat black always go well together.
  5. Winter chill doesn't seem like a bad colour, but imho it would blend into traffic like any other gray-ish coloured car out there. I'm partial to dark blues and greens, personally.
  6. Just to be anal and point it out, an m+s rating has more to do with tread block patterns than actual performance. A dedicated snow/winter tire will far out perform an m+s. That being said, unless you'll be getting down to (or below) 0°F on a regular basis, or deal with a lot of ice, you likely won't notice all that much... Despite all the people up here yelling about m+s not being "real" winter tires.
  7. Like magic in snow, just put some all-seasons/terrains back on if you're going anywhere near hot asphalt... ask me how I know. Modern snow tires are so awesome you don't even need studs unless you're driving the ice roads. Snows on each corner will beat 4x4 any day. (unless that's 4x4 w/ snows!!)
  8. Sold without replying to my email...
  9. :agree: If enough interest could be sparked again, I'd also be willing to put my name down for one of the ones from uHaul if the time came.
  10. Trust Top Gear to have already done it ;) http://www.arabiandrift.com/video/14408/Top-Gear-Alfa-romeo-challenge-Part-3-of-4
  11. I've sent him an email, directing him here to register or email me his VIN. He says in the ad he won't respond to emails, but we'll see.
  12. Spotted this today on Kijiji, 1992 4x4 with a five-speed. Nice and clean, 170k miles. He doesn't mention the trailer brake controller under the dash... FYI, Prince Albert, Saskatchewan (where the truck is located) is about 300 miles North and slightly West of where the ND/MT border hits the 49th parallel. http://saskatchewan.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-cars-trucks-1992-Jeep-Comanche-GREAT-TRUCK-W0QQAdIdZ420698965 Too bad I don't have the money...
  13. Yeah, I noticed the grill upside down... I was almost tempted to try to flip it for him, got pretty bored sitting out there. It might just be the lighting that makes the door look off, but I do remember thinking the door looked a little strange when I was out there last night, but it was dark and I parked right beside it so I didn't have space to stand back and look. Again, thought it might just be the street lights. completely accidentally... :rotfl2:
  14. looks like 3 years in SK :( And I'd say the university is more likely to have claim to it... since it's on their land... But wouldn't it be nice!
  15. Cool find. That 60mph speedo seems a little optimistic for 13 horse... You'd think they'd have tried increasing power before axing the project, but I guess that's the military for you. Too bad, I bet those things would be awesome for trails and stuff with a better engine. Maybe not very comfortable, but seriously cool.
  16. 1991 Jeep Comanche Pioneer (according to http://www.decodethi...7FJ36S3ML570755) http://comancheclub....ian-91-longbed/ <-- more pics and updates 4.0 HO, Auto, LWB Current location: Saskatoon SK Status: 475xxxkm, (~295k miles), Manitoba plated. Needs a lot of (mostly cosmetic) work, but runs and drives great. I'd say it's an ongoing project. Current owner: Me! Notes: Dark blue paint that goes purple from the right angle (not original). Grey interior, vinyl buckets, floor shifter, cluster w/ tach. Looks like it may have done duty as a pilot vehicle (those silly orange lights on the front that I can't figure out how to make work, plus cb antenna mount and cable and very high mileage), maybe in the service of Parks Canada (just a guess based on the fact that it's the same colour as the older Parks trucks and the PO bought it in a town that may as well be in a national park, it's close enough). Supposedly ~150 km on an engine rebuild. Body is pretty straight but the rockers are mostly bondo and there's rust starting in a few places, but nothing major.
  17. Walked past this morning around 10 with a camera, and it was still in the same spot, and still there again on my way back at 3:30 Pix:
  18. 1JTHW64P1JT106094 1988 Jeep Comanche Pioneer 2.5L (I think), five-speed, 2wd, swb Current location: University of Saskatchewan campus, F lot, Saskatoon SK Status: 188xxxkm (~115k miles) Great shape, Sask plated. Current owner: :dunno: The parking lot it's sitting in is reserved for faculty during the week... Notes: It's red, I think the interior's black or dark grey. Buckets (w/ seat covers), floor shifter, massive fuel gauge. Bed's well used, but almost no rust on the truck. Hidden hitch in addition to two balls on the bumper. One of the rims has "cherokee" sharpied on it. Don't know what else to put here... it's been sitting there for over 20 hours so far, so if there's something someone wants to know, I suppose I can go back... left a note on windshield directing the owner here.
  19. Saw a 2wd swb Pioneer in the F lot, just north of the education building last night... hung around for a couple hours but the owner never showed up. It's only the second MJ I remember ever seeing irl (the first being mine), so I was a little excited. I left a note under the wiper directing them here if they aren't already. Shoulda had my camera on me... 188xxx km on the odometer, roughly 115k miles, made mine look like a piece of garbage, but now I know where to cut out my bedliner to get at the tie-downs. It just occurs to me I should have vinned and registered it, too. I gave up waiting around midnight, so i'll run back today to see if it's still there.
  20. Which fuse was blown, if you don't mind me asking? I've had intermittent issues with all of the above not working (clock doesn't hold the time, loses about 20 minutes a day, dome lamps only sometimes work and radio only once came on when I hit a bad patch of washboard) so I went out and checked, and sure enough, I had a blown 10 amp fuse too. There were a bunch of ten amp fuses in the glove box from the PO, (I'm guessing this isn't the first time it's happened) so I changed it out. Then I got power to the radio, but not enough to make it work. The dome lights still weren't working, and now the clock doesn't seem to have power any more. Because it was a little melted looking, I switched out the 15 amp radio switch with one of the 10amps, and the radio came on, but only through the speakers on the right side of the truck. The clock and dome lamps still don't work. I checked the manual to see what the first fuse I replaced was for (maybe it's the clock? I'm not sure which fuse the "clock" label is referring to, because it's not lined up with this one, but it is lined up with the one above) but it's labelled as a 30 amp fuse, so that's why it's blowing all the time, likely, heheh... PO didn't seem too mechanically inclined... :thwak: So tomorrow I'm going to go get some proper fuses and see what's up. Edit: got to this thread from the search feature, didn't realize it was over a year old... heheh...
  21. Emailed Chrysler Canada about my truck, and they sent me this list of factory equipment: Commemorative Edition Group Light Group Skid Plate Group Monotone Paint Kicker/SRT Livin' Loud Audio System 130 Amp Alternator Power Front Disc/Rear Drum Brakes Low Back Bucket Seats Reclining Front Seats Carpets - Floor and Cargo Area Mini Floor Console All 4-Speed Automatic Transmissions 4-Speed Automatic AW4 Transmission Lock-Up Torque Converter Command-Trac Part Time 4WD System Floor Mount Automatic Shift Lever 230MM Front Axle 3.55 Rear Axle Ratio 175MM Rear Axle 4.0L I6 Power Tech Engine Tinted Glass Windows Tinted Windshield Glass Front Door Tinted Glass Fixed Door Vent Glass Rear Sliding Window Sun Visors w/Illum Vanity Mirrors Left Remote Mirror Right Remote Control Mirror Manual Remote Mirrors Air Conditioning Instrument Cluster w/Tach 180 KPH Primary Speedometer Digital Clock Var Intermittent Windshield Wipers Cigar Lighter Headlamps On Warning Chimes Courtesy Lamps Glove Box Lamp Ash Tray Lamp Cigar Lighter Underhood Lamp Headlamp Off Time Delay Halogen Headlamps Daytime Running Headlamps, High Beam Black Front Bumper Black Front Bumper Front License Plate Bracket Black Grille Black Windshield Moldings Rear Qtr Solid Window Insert Belt Moldings Hi Black Gloss/Black Mirror Molding Federal Emissions EVAP Control System Engine Block Heater Speed Control All Radio Equipped Vehicles AM/FM Cassette Radio 4 Speakers Power Rack and Pinion Steering Alcantara Wrap Steering Wheel Standard Duty Shock Absorbers Rear Shock Absorbers Tilt Steering Column Full Size Spare Tire Tire Carrier Winch P225/75R15 OWL Wrangler AT Tires Goodyear Brand Tires 15" Aluminum Wheels All Aluminum Wheels Pickup Box Build To Canada Mkt. Specifications And of course they said that "the information on factory equipment is limited due to the model year of the vehicle." and recommended I contact the Chrysler Historical Foundation, which I guess I'll be doing... Mostly it seems fairly accurate, although I don't think I've got any skid plates, and they don't say anything about the bed liner, but judging by the way that one's put in, it might be a later addition. Oh, and the speedometer obviously goes to 200KPH, but it did stop at 180 when I "had" to see how fast it went. I just assumed I'd hit some kind of limiter when it stopped accelerating right at 180, but maybe I "pinned" the speedo, so to speak... As I said before I'm on a starving student budget, but I hope to eventually restore it all the way to factory. Maybe I'll lift it a couple inches, or mount a push bar, but I'm still not sure about that. It's something about a fairly rare vehicle that makes me want to leave it alone...
  22. Looks pretty good, I've been here less than a week, so I wasn't really all that used to everything anyway. It was a bit of a shock though when I came here this morning, though... But overall :rock on:
  23. That's a solid truck... if there were any other diesel jeeps at the show I'm betting they weren't as fast ;)
  24. Cool, thanks! I don't know if it's good or not knowing that the motor might actually be original... in some ways it is, because that means I've got a mostly original and fairly rare truck in decent shape, but it also means that the motor's got almost 300k miles on it. The previous owner said it was rebuilt around 90k miles ago but I found a note in the owner's manual (assuming that's the one that came with the truck, which is likely given the truck in question and that I've also got the warranty booklet) that says some guy (no name) bought the truck in '01, and the odometer reading he put in was only around 70k ago, and there's a safety inspection from '06 in the glove box from the guy who sold the truck to the people I bought it from (needs done in MB when the vehicle changes hands), so that rebuild (if it happened) would have been more than 10 years and 4 owners ago... But then it's not using oil and it runs pretty good, so maybe it was rebuilt? Also the guy was saying that he got the oil filter before he changed the oil, but realized he had the wrong one because it wasn't the right engine or something... It's still a couple thousand miles short of the next oil change though, so I don't really want to take the filter off yet. The 5-speed auto also kinda has me wondering... I've got to get down under it to see what's up with that one of these days.
  25. interesting... So that almost makes it look like the block might be original to the truck? (late December '90 engine would go into an early 91 build, right) Would there be any way to tell that? This is the first Jeep in the family, so I know almost nothing about them, and am trying to find out as much as I can about the truck.
