i had a late 86 IROC (after they changed the trans over to a Getrag from GM), 305 4BBL , 5 spd, t-tops..........and it had 5 mudflaps. 4 on the car and 1 on the back of my head! :brows: One thing is fo sho, the ladies loved that car. So did I! Did 110mph going through the I-64 Hampton Tunnel about 1am one night. The tunnel lights were flashing by so fast it looked like Luke Skywalker when he hit light speed LOL. There were four of us in the car and when I grabbed third heading in to the tunnel everybody just got quiet. I was staring straight ahead when the guy in the passenger seat calmly says "triple digits". About 5 seconds later a guy in the back says, "hey Jones, do you think someone is monitoring those cameras on the wall this time of night?". As I approached the end of the tunnel I thought for sure Buford T. Justice was going to be waiting for me. Fortunately he wasn't. Oh, and my college roommate was beside me in his 85 Mustang GT the whole time.

the only thing clean is the engine bay. asking $15k for that takes the thinking "a sucker born every minute" to a new level. viewtopic.php?f=3&t=24521&p=251726#p251726

the engine bay does look good, i'm guessing just a thorough steam clean though. if they took the trouble to do a complete tear down they would have bragged about it in the ad IMO. -

...and available to you for just under $16,000! That's right, for just $15,898 you can be the owner of this pristine Comanche, complete with short long bed and stained seats and carpet. Oh, and only 154k. Wow! The drugs must be good AND cheap in Nashville. http://www.seautoinc.com/detail-1988-je ... 11013.html

mj payload & towing capability?
WahooSteeler replied to zzze's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yep, before my time. I be's just a youngin'. It came out near 10 years before I was a thought. I do however, have the smokey and the bandit triple pack sitting by the tube from a guy a work. "Only two things I take my hat off for..." Rob L. like most timeless classics, the sequels are pathetic attempt at just making a few more bucks off the original's popularity and no focus on the cinematic genius of the 1st one. -

Before your time Automan? First of all, it came out in 1977, which if that's before your time, well, I guess you could be younger than 33. However, movies like that are a TIMELESS CLASSIC. Gone With The Wind, The Great Escape, Jaws, Rocky, Smokey and The Bandit, doesn't matter what generation or when you see it for the first time. They are all movies that transcend time! :D -

:hmm: Rob L. he was honoring the greatest movie of all time with another quote. In case you need a refresher, it's when Big and Little Enos Burdette walk up to the Bandit at the truck Ro-day-o show while he's sleeping in the hammock. If I have to actually tell you the movie, I'll have Pete put you on a 3 day ban from the site. :brows: -
couple more under 5k. 20ft'r at 3k lbs and a 23ft at 4k lbs empty. http://www.allencampermfg.com/brochures/Outpost3.pdf

mj payload & towing capability?
WahooSteeler replied to zzze's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
a lot of little factors add up to a safe tow, and with that i'm sure liability exposure is a big part of it for the mfr. point being, short wheelbase or high center of gravity or low weight tow vehicle equals higher chance of losing control (even if tow vehicle components can pull the weight), equals higher liability exposure for mfr, equals conservative tow rating by mfr. -
mj payload & towing capability?
WahooSteeler replied to zzze's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
shorter wheelbase. probably nothing to do with ability to pull the weight over 5k, just stability and safety. -
Agreed. And dry weight is what it is when it leaves the factory, and for some mfr's that number on the spec sheet is in bare bones form, i.e. no options such as A/C, awning, etc. Should have mentioned that, but that's why over on the "MJ Payload & Towing" thread I've been asking if anyone knew of a different rating if an MJ was 5th wheel equipped. The Takena5 at 3500lbs empty still looks the best match.

And then you went and sold it. :fool:

Pete, good point on the GCWV. I was going to point out, you can't add all the figures up independently, i.e. payload, tow capacity etc. Under situations like Root Moose's where it's a maxed out situation in every aspect, the gross combined weight keeps "the total package" in check. Root Moose, FWIW, I'd be a lot more nervous about hauling and towing all of that with a short bed. JMO but a SWB MJ is going to be a handful with all of that. I'm kinda surprised that a SWB has the same 5k tow rating. If you look at any of today's pickup tow ratings, long beds almost always have a higher tow rating. That being said, when I revised this thread I was hoping someone either had info on, or could comment on, if there are any differences in tow rating if an MJ is pulling a 5th wheel. IMO, if you could sell your trailer and find a goosneck car hauler, you'd be a lot more stable going down the road. Ooops, just remembered you want a camper pack on there too. Well, sounds to me like you need to find a LWB Big Ton MJ and you'll be set. :dunno: -
More cool stuff.... I actually found this line before the Chalet Takena, but hadn't posted it yet. What's nice about the Cikira is that they have 6! models to choose from all under 5000 lbs, the biggest at 4920lbs but 26ft of trailer. Pretty cool. The 26ft'r is probably a tad much for an MJ, even under 5k lbs, 26ft is a lot of trailer behind you. http://cikirarv.com/products/5th-wheels/luxlite **Edit: I just realized the spec sheet and floorplans is for lite travel trailers AND their lite 5th wheels. They have two 5th wheel models, a 23' (4k lbs) and a 26' (4900lbs). Still pretty cool.

$28k???? OUUUCCCCHHHHH!! Even though that is in Canuck... that's still ALOT of coin. I could easily afford a bigger truck and camper for that kind of money. yeah, that's another reason i like that Chalet Takena 5th, about $8k less NEW, more room, better equipped. Buuut, those fiberglass jobs seem to hold their value because they hold up so well from what I've read. Look around for used Casitas or Scamps, 20yr old Scamp 5th wheels still bring $10k+. Like I said above, in 3-5 yrs I'm guessing a Chalet Takena could be had for mid to low teens.

ok, there are a few small 5th wheels out there under 5k lbs, i.e. the MJ's max tow weight. This little guy is the bomb. Not 4950lbs maxing out the MJ, not a 2500lb fiberglass flyweight (although I do like that Escape). A just right 3500lbs, slide out, twin axle, full featured, @$20-25k new. In 3-4yrs hopefully I could pick one up for 1/2 that. :chillin: http://www.chaletrv.com/5thwheels.php http://www.suttonrv.com/2010-chalet-tak ... OR-i138875

Another pic of one behind a Nissan Frontier, right in my back yard no less, Blacksburg VA (boo Hokies!). Good looking setup IMO. I love the current body style of the Frontier and that 4.0 is a great motor. I had the new style Pathfinder as a company car from '04-'06, and if I bought a new or new/used truck today that would be the truck I get. Anyhoo, back to the little 5er behind it, I like it a lot. I'd have to put some chrome or brushed aluminum wheels on it though. :brows: Found on a forum for Escape lovers. Imagine that? http://escapeforum.org/index.php?topic=1185.0

found some great info during my recent obsession with campers and trailers suited for MJs. This is the Escape 5.0 on fiberglassrv.com, made in Canada, seems to be highly regarded. 2600lbs dry, about perfect for an MJ. http://escapetrailer.com/
