Refilling the closed system.
WahooSteeler replied to chicofuentes0224's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
chico, i'm no expert on these here closed systems, but i'm a little confused. your thread says "closed system" and then later you state "you no longer have a closed system". did your mods change it over to an open system? I thought it was still a closed system. regardless, recently i had overheating issues and shamelessly i have to admit it was simply low on coolant. well, almost out of coolant is more like it. :dunce: so when i filled the bottle up to the proper level and ran the truck (in my driveway), i too continued to overheat and but my bottle continued to be empty. i found no leaks and my oil was clean so i wasn't sure what was up. until that is, i repeated the proces several other times, letting the truck cool completely after each shut off to see how much if any coolant returned to the bottle. each time i did this, as you probably have figured out where this is going, the truck ran cooler and a little more coolant returned to the bottle. yup, eventually the bottle filled up, stayed filled up after cool down, and the truck is running below 210 like a champ. on the highway with my newly functioning A/C :D on it runs "210-220, whatever it takes." hopefully it's that simple now that you've done all that other work. -
Don't listen to JT, he's a 2 wheeler. A low-ridin' 2 wheeler at that. No self-respectin' 4 wheeler would intentionally keep that rake. :D

CrankShaftKid's 88 MJ (4wd swap)

love the moabs. funny, i have a wheel thread right now about canyons and ravines, but i left out moabs because they still cost a good bit more than what you can get the others for. otherwise, i'd probably go for moabs or MT Classics w/beadlock. Truck will look awesome in that GM color. -
uhh, sir sam, not much help there. that's like saying red and maroon is not much different so go with either color. it's personal taste. i am pretty sure i like the ravines just a little bit more, and probably because they are a little less common on MJs as the canyons. but it's one of those things that sometimes it helps to get other opinions to help make a decision. as you can see, yes, i already have canyons. yes, i know they are nearly identical, but still different IMO. i'd probably break even for what i can sell my canyons for, which at the end of the day would probably be the only way i'd do it.

I can get my hands on a set of Ravines for pretty cheap, so the question is stay with my Canyons, which I love, or go to Ravines which I also think look great. I can also get my hands on another set of Canyons for a decent price if I keep mine and anybody wants some. They have about 50% tread on 30" A/Ts (not BFGs, don't remember the brand but was a major one) and full tread on the spare, total of 5 wheels and tires. Hit me with your O-pinions on the Canyons vs. Ravines. Not much different, but different. Know what I mean?

WahooSteeler replied to Luvtohunt's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
where are you locating your front speakers? the front door openings are most definitely 5 1/4" round openings. -

No, actually it wasn't a good weekend at all. It was a GREAT weekend!!  And not just from everything we got accomplished, but in meeting new friends and being shown such great hospitality. (What would you expect from a couple of Pittsburghers transplated to God's country, errr, Virginia). If you ever get the chance to wrench with Jeff, I suggest you do it. You're likely to learn a thing or two while having a good time. It's nice to work in a relaxed atmosphere too, especially if you are not Mr. Goodwrench and you're wrenching buddy is (Jeff) but doesn't make you feel uncomfortable. As Jeff said, we massacred a substantial amount of BL's and BLL's and then finished the day off on Saturday with a pork shoulder that he had on the Weber Smokey Joe for about 8hrs. And his wife Missy was super cool about some stranger from an internet 4 wheel drive club coming to their house. Then back at it this morning to pull his driveline out and a few more refreshments. Pretty cool to pull the whole engine, tranny and xfer case all in one shot. Thanks for posting the pics too Jeff (I'm also posting some on the "introduce your comanche" sticky to compare to stock height). We think I netted about 2.5" up front and close to 1.5" in the back, so when I wear out the Bridgestones, I can throw 31s on no problem. Of course Jeff was teasing me as to how long it will be before I want to lift it more. We'll see......... ;) -
Now hold on Wildman, I called dibs on that drivetrain a while back, IF you sold it. :brows: And YOU told me you were going to hang on to it for now. So, is it for sale now LOL? ;)

Looks good but I'd love to see more pics, escpecially from the side ;)

I'm assuming Taz will be able to hook you up, but I found my old receipt and the window wipes are referred to as "belt w/strip". Yeah, weird. Anyway, below is the link, but for the record, it's in the collision catalog under "door, glass and hardware, belt w/strip, outer or inner". http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/ ... atalogid=2

U-bolt dimensions needed...........fast
WahooSteeler replied to WahooSteeler's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Called Advance, they couldn't get anything bigger than 1/2" and I need 9/16s. I didn't think of Fastenal until after the fact which is ironic you mention them because just last week I had to get them to order new flange bolts for my tow hooks. This shop is a spring and suspension specialist, that's all they do. They have threaded rod in stock in tons of different sizes, grade 5 and 8 of course. So all they do is pull some stock off a rack and put it on a bender. $46 for all of them in Grade 8 with nuts and washers included. -
yup, i tracked that one too to see what it would close for. looked nice...

funny you should mention the blowfish thing, i think i felt some of the symptoms coming on again, just today in fact. usually they start acting up whenever there is a camera around or i start sweating. and the combination of the two, jeez, i really seem to have a relapse. thanks for thinking of me though chico, you're a good ghey, errr, guy. :D
