DOH! :!: I didn't read that properly, I thought this was a BA-10 to AX-15 deal.
-
I believe so. Best bet would to be take a caliper and measure where the bearing needs to sit and measure the shaft size. I remember reading somewhere about using an older CJ bearing that had the proper sizes, but I don't have a link to that, and I don't have any sizes or more info.

r&p identification on an 8.8
87manche replied to mjeff87's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
the old fashioned turn the wheels and count the pinion/DS rotations method. Mark both wheels, get someone to turn the opposite wheel at the same time. Count the revolutions of the wheels to get the pinion to do one full turn. 4 wheel turns=4:1 -
MJ Questions From the New Guy
87manche replied to Eliminator89's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/np231.htm Apparently there were some differences in the shaft length, which really sucks, cause now I have to research that in my AX-15 replacement. But it looks as if all the ax-15's were 23 spline. http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/ax15.htm hopefully Novak has it together and they're not wrong. -
MJ Questions From the New Guy

I believe it is bolt in. The hose is different, if you want it to be a real clean install get the shorter clutch hose for the AX-15. AFAIK all AX-15 trannies were 23 spline. -

MJ Questions From the New Guy

Fernando, I just read your post in the 4 Cyl thread. You most likely have an AX-5, the AX-15 was never put behind the 2.5L motor. AX-5 and AX-15 are related and look similar http://www.jeeptech.com/trans/ax5.html -

indeed! PICS!! -
I bet those are the same hols that my cargo hooks are in. If you take out the tail light assemblies then you'll see the mount for the cargo hooks. They go in and have a nut on the back to hold them in. I wonder if you need a mounting kit for the bedliner that uses those same mounts to hold it in. I'm sure once you see the mounts you can figure it out.

Engine swap from 4 cyl/manual to Chevy350/SM465
87manche replied to husky410ohio's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm not sure about your 4 cyl trans, but on my AX-15 the shifter is in two pieces. Let me try and explain. The shifter itself was held in the shift tower by a Dzuz fastener like lock. Puch down on the piece with the hole in it and turn it to the counter clockwize and it would pop out. There is a spring in there. After that the shifter just pulls out of the shift tower. Or, you can take the whole tower out. On my AX-15 it's held on by 4 bolts , I don't know if you'll be able to get to them without taking the center console out. -
Adding 97+ doors and power windows/locks?
87manche replied to m0brando's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.p ... =door+swap There's a writeup on making the doors fit with some pictures. It's a 4 door cherokee, but it should be the same. -
if it was a rear main seal I doubt it would leak up the engine block. Check to see if your valve cover is warped. Even if you replace the gasket, if the cover is warped it may not seal.

I would put the cardboard backtogether with a layer of fiberglass. Then glue the new amterial to it with some 3M spray.

shortbed vs. longbed drive shaft lengths
87manche replied to starfox's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm not sure, but I would also think it would matter between transmissions, the MT is a different length than the AT. -
yep, that's just what mine looks like. That small piece of trim goes around the glass on top. Then there's a bbig rubber gasket that surrounds the whole thing and is pinched from underneath with a whole bunch of 1/4" reverse torx screws.

gnarly.

given that he has an 88 he may very well have said tranny. Unless someone has already swapped it. http://www.jeeptech.com/trans/ there's some pictures. It greatly helped when I couldn't figure out what my trans was.

Possible cooling switch in the future...
87manche replied to 89Tonto's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I really dislike that stop leak stuff. I tried it on a 1988 mazda, and when I pulled the head the coolant passages were all nastied up. -
not gona happen. She bought me the heep...If we ever have to get a minivan then the Mj becomes trail only, and it may end up looking like yours.
-
Yeah, Mine doesn't have that trim piece. It's just a big rubber gasket. like what you see around newer windshields. Who knows, maybe it's supposed to. I planned on making the future wife sewing me a cover to put the glass in, and I was going to make brackets on the rear of thte cab to pop it out.
-
Yeah, unfortunately it's not the part of the gasket that seals against the glass. My leak is from the gasket shrinking and pulling from the roof. When the truck was repainted they didn't pull the sunroof out, I'm sure that wasn't good for the gasket. I can see the cracks in the paint where the gasket has shrunk. My sunroof has chrysler markings on it. I suppose it's possible that it came from an xj and someon cut the roof and put it in. I haven't investigated that. I need to email DC and get the build sheet. Mine is technically a Pioneer, but it's had a full console and buckets swapped in. All of this was done previous, so I don't know the whole story, which makes things more difficult. I'll take some pictures of it, and get the part number off the glass for you. I've got wedding counseling tonight, so probably won't be until tomorrow.
-
oh, I've googled the hell out of it. I was trying to avoid the dealership route. Dealer can get one for an XJ, which I imagine is the same gasket, but they want like $180, and I can't give it back to them if they special order it and it doesn't fit.

dealer Napa http://allchryslerparts.com/ -OEM parts at a discount I put a NAPA clutch in when I did mine, I forget the brand name. It seems just as well built as the OEM one that came out of it. HOpefully it lasts as long.

So, anybody ever find a replacement gasket for a factory sunroof? I've looked around, even called the local glass repair place. I RTV'd it tonight, just because I was getting tired of being dripped on, or having a wet seat. Of course that's not the proper permanent fix, so caugh up your parts suppliers. Places I've checked already: Autozone Advance Napa Local glass place Body shop run by a customer of mine. They mostly look at me like 'm crazy when I ask for the sunroof gasket for an 87 MJ.
