  1. so this may or may not decrease the amount of time it takes to start the truck.
  2. i started questioning it when it took that long and my dad was curious of why it did as well. i've driven cars older than that truck and they started up like a brand new car. so i thought it was odd. It is a peculiarity of the Renix system. I don't understand the specifics, but the Renix system doesn't "learn" any settings from driving. Every start is a "clean boot" for the system, and it needs a number of engine revolutions to check and be sure that everything is synchronized before it'll actually fire up. There is no way you will EVER get a Renix system to fire the instant you turn the key. Just accept it -- it ain't gonna happen. well knowing that, i will accept it, no reason to waste money on something that can't be changed.

  4. ha oh boy. i could use a hand held volt meter to check the how much life is in that battery couldn't i? i don't know how you check them, other than what year it is.
  5. if the battery was bad, would you notice low voltage on the gage? i won't be near my truck till tomorrow night, but i know the gage stays around 14volts or half way when the truck is running. it's about a quarter when just turned on. i don't know if the battery cables are original or not, i don't remember what they look like at the moment either. i already need to get some braided wire so i can pick up some extra. http://cpwstore.carpartswholesale.com/c ... 67006+7532 ?
  6. i have done that before, sometimes it takes just as long, other times it takes a second or two.
  7. i feel bad that i did. i saw some other prices which were up in the $500s and i thought that was high until i saw that price, almost made me want to cry for everyone who drives semis and they own their truck.
  8. i wouldn't think it would take five seconds for the truck to start when turning the ignition. i was meaning to ask this question a while back but hadn't got around to it. so what is my issue, or is that how it's supposed to be, which i don't assume it should be.
  9. what made you leave this state? i get to go home tomorrow :D
  10. haha nothin' wrong with that at all. sounds like ya'll had a good time though. good size bass too. also sounds like my little brother when we got home after doing that charter. he just keep going on and on and on about all the fish we caught and kept sayin "we have to go every day" and "we need to go fishin' with captain ron again" he was pretty excited about drivin' the boat as well, and ron gave my little brother a hat and called him captain alex. i didn't think he would ever stop talkin about it. biggest fish i caught so far was a 22lb. salmon out of the lewis river in washington.
  11. either way, that it still a lot compared to the boondocks where i live. fine with me, might as well learn something about this state other than they grow oranges down here. and panama city is the place to be during spring break. i'll be there next year.

i am getting a bit more pricey here but i will take all of these
  13. i'll fix this problem when i get home. all i need is a couple wire clamps and some braided wire and it'll be fixed.
  14. that's a lot
  15. last time i had seen storms like this was in new mexico during the summer. but they get hail the size of golf balls when it storms there. washingtons storms are pretty weak compared to these, especially how loud the thunder can get. i have been going outside when they come in to watch 'em. that would have been pretty cool to see. i was this light bolt strike three times in the same place the other day, it was probably about five miles away. it seemed to not even change it's shape either.
  16. http://spokane.craigslist.org/pts/707033322.html well i suppose not, i have the 4.0 instead :D but still a nice price.
  17. i am down in cape coral. it started getting dark so i stopped taking pictures. i road down in the moving vehicle so i don't have any transportation while i am here. my flight leaves at one pm on the 30th. but next time i come down i am going to look for a vehicle, probably a cj or a xj and store it at my dads so when i come down to visit and put in some vacation time i'll be able to travel around and check stuff out. and the next time i come down we are heading over to the east coast to do some marlin fishing. so when i am down the next time i'll take you up on your offer for wheelin and a brew.
  18. it was a pretty cool trip. we didn't end up leaving until about three in the morning and stopped in pendleton for some sleep ate breakfast and stopped in wyoming somewhere. next stop was missouri and we reached the house at about two in the morning starting on the fifth day. snow was coming down pretty hard as we started over the mountains outside of pendleton. from pilot rock to mid nebraska it was windy and cold. iowa was pretty much under water. and the rest of the way way pretty nice. and florida is pretty nice, there's some crazy thunderstorms down here though, it's pretty cool. i got a ton of pictures here my photobucket link if you guys want to check 'em out. we also went on a small charter, caught some sea trout, blow fish, a ton of snappers, groupers and a few other species of fish. they weren't huge fish but it was fun, we were out there four hours and had a fish on about every minute, we had four polls out. we didn't get many pictures of the fish, we were too busy bringin 'em in and gettin back out to catch more. here's a few pictures from that.
  19. i am getting average 24mpg on the highway at about 70mph with a 89 4.0 5spd and 235/75/15 tires. average i go 404 to 408 being completely full. in town, i get about 300 to 350 depending on if i am shootin off at the stops signs and street lights.
  20. i don't know. my dad was talking about bearings being bad with conductivity so if the ground has to travel through those bearings, the charge will be weak because it has to travel through the grease/oil and the ball bearings only touch metal to metal with a very small area. so there could be too much grease in areas that it's touching or should be touching.
  21. we got it figured out. the ground isn't making it through the u-joint closest to the inside, it's fine up until then. so we devised up a solution. drill tiny little holes and connect a wire to each side making a bridge across the u-joint.
  22. we tested the wires from the horn and nothing was wrong there. we have done test groundings and the horn works fine, but the center shaft isn't grounded like it should be. if we can get the center shaft grounded the horn will work then. we got that far, but we just don't know where to ground it at.
  23. :dunno: wouldn't that just be the outer casing rather than the shaft itself though? we searched and searched for a place to ground it or where it's supposed to be grounded and found nothing. he even checked in the engine bay. we are kind of stumped here as where it should be at. i did find a spot where something should be screwed in but we tried it and nothing. so that wasn't it.
  24. that's what my dad thought at first, but when he checked to see if the shaft was grounded it wasn't so he checked some other wires and ran a few tests and came to the conclusion that it should be grounded, and we don't have a clue where it grounds at. i have two to the relays, and it doesn't work with either of those, and as far as i know they are good. my dad says the relays aren't the problem, he said the problem is there is no ground to the center shaft.
  25. sand what? there's a few things you can sand. we've scrapped at that switch/button end for it to be good and a few other things and it does nothing. my dad and i played around with it for awhile, we got it to work when we touched a wire connected to the steering wheel to anything that was grounded but when we touched the center shaft nothing, so shouldn't there be a ground on it somewhere? we must be missing something, because as far as my dad knows the center shaft should be grounded but it's not.
