does it bolt right up? if so, I'm getting ready to replace VC gasket, and ill just go get a newer VC
-
take the hose running from the VC to the air box, and stick into a bottle, i got a 2 liter bottle on mine till i can replace my PCV ( i think that is what causes it??) and the VC gasket. Yep i am gonna take care of that as soon as Pat gets back bc i am getting a Valve conver new style from him what does the "new style" look like?

ok, i can't hold it back, if your wanting it for rockcrawling, then that means you will be going at slow speeds, deflating tires, and trying to climb steep obstacles, which mean you want power on the low end, the 4.0 will give you that AND more over what the 4.3 will give you on the low side. a straight 6 will give you more torque over a V6, and it's sounding like that is what your wanting. ya the 4.3 seems like it has more get up and go, but that's at the higher speeds, i guarantee you hook a loaded trailer up behind both those engines and the 4.0 will run circles around the 4.3

i would start with testing the battery and checking all grounds :dunno:

dang guys, i would of been pissed off in the first 5 minutes and just left, good job though.

thanks guys, he is so busy he didn't even bother with giving me test piece or nothing, he just handed me a blueprint showed me to the mill and told me to make it :D

ugh... i just threw up in my mouth :( defiantly needs some TLC -
the truck has a mechanical fuel pump which runs off of the vacuum system, and it got parked facing down hill and shut off, but the fuel just kept running through the line, you know how siphoning works right? that's basically what happened. it just set there went threw the carb and went on down to the block... i think :brows:

that's prolly it right there. oh well, that engine needs some going through, update it a little :D

this is nothing bout jeeps, but the 1963 IH grain truck with a 304 V8 that we been using to haul beans, got parked on a down hill slop last night, and the gas from the front tank siphoned into the engine, i checked oil this morning and nothing on the dip stick, so i poured a quart in and all sudden heard something draining, looked underneath and there was gas just pouring out of the back of the engine :fs1: so i drained the oil out, the engine holds around 7qts, so put that into a 5gal bucket and fill it up the rest of the way with gas plus 1/2 a gallon i spilled and that is what came out of the engine. so i changed filter and oil, and took all the plugs out, and squirted just a little oil down each cylinder, started up good and ran fine, know the truck actually has some oil pressure! but the oil still comes out the back of the engine at a pretty good rate, pretty sure RMS is out. I'm just very thankful i checked it this morning otherwise i could of easily torn the engine all to hell, or burn the truck down with 300 bushel of beans on it.

Ditto. And conversely, it's rare to see a timing chain go. I replaced the timing chain in my '88 XJ at somewhere around 210,000 miles as a pre-emptive strike. The old one was as tight as the new one, but as long as the engine was open I went ahead and installed the new one. Turns out my concerns were based on a false premise. The cam sprocket in the AMC V8s I used to race had nylon teeth that would wear down and allow the chain to jump time. I foolishly assumed that the 4.0L engine would be the same. Imagine my surprise when I got it open and found a steel sprocket. Dummy. :dunce: :grrrr: kinda strange, mines backwards :D but yep they are the original bearings, also said my RMS was completely gone, he asked how i was able to keep oil in the engine for more than an hour  i only put a quart in a week.
-
well i was going to cause i figured they were worn out but since they don't show any wear i can save some money and not do them, and because they are in perfect shape I'm kinda scared that if it gets jacked with and replaced that it will go out soon. i don't know why i just have that feeling :brows:
-
just got the call, he has my motor torn apart, and said all bearings look basically brand new, so i won't change any of them, but he said the timing chain all but fell off when he went to take it apart  so just the pump, seals and chain and sprocket will get replaced. I can't wait to get it back, may be out tomorrow

i sure wish that second one was a joke, but it's not anymore, its the truth. :wall:

Wow man, your a hell of a lot tougher than i would be. God speed on recovery, and keep up the good spirits
