  1. the '92 XJ harness should have two 16 pin body connectors, one gray and one black. I don't know the pin outs for an '88 MJ body harness, but for a '92 MJ ten splices are necessary to get things working. The first 6 pins from the black XJ harness match up with the MJ's. The other eight pin outs can be spliced over from the gray XJ harness. 92 XJ Gray body connector (wire colors in parentheses): pin 1 (db/or) Speaker return right rear pin 2 (db/wt) Speaker feed right rear pin 3 (or/bk) panel illumination pin 4 (bk) ground pin 5 (pk) courtesy lamps pin 6 (br/lb) speaker return left rear pin 7 (br/yl) speaker feed left rear pin 8 pin 9 (yl) switched ground pin 10 (lg) seat belt switch pin 11 (br/rd) rear wiper run pin 12 (wt) rear wiper park pin 13 (or/vt) lock relay pin 14 (pk/wt) unlock relay pin 15 (vt/yl) security alarm liftgate pin 16 (pk/or) keyless arm input '92 XJ Black body connector (wire colors in parentheses): pin 1 (dg/tn) Fuel Pump pin 2 (tn/dg) Right Rear Turn Signal pin 3 (db/rd) Parking Lamps pin 3 (db/rd) Parking Lamps pin 4 (db) Fuel Gauge pin 5 (br/lg) Backup Lamp Signal pin 6 (lg/bk) Left Rear Turn Signal pin 7 (gy/or) Brake Pressure Warning SW/ Park Brake Light pin 7 (gn) Brake Pressure Warning Switch pin 8 (bk/rd) Rear Defogger pin 9 pin 10 (bk/wt) Rear Washer Feed pin 11 (wt/tn) Stop Lamps pin 11 (wt/tn) Stop Lamps pin 12 pin 13 pin 14 pin 15 (db/or) Illuminated Entry Signal pin 15 (dg/or) Right front door security pin 16 (lg/or) Left front door security '92 MJ Black body connector (wire colors in parentheses): pin 1 (dg/tn) Fuel Pump pin 2 (tn/dg) Right Rear Turn Signal pin 3 (db/rd) Parking Lamps pin 3 (db/rd) Parking Lamps pin 4 (db) Fuel Gauge pin 5 (br/lg) Backup Lamp Signal pin 6 (lg/bk) Left Rear Turn Signal pin 7 (br/yl) Speaker Feed Left Rear pin 8 (br/lb) Speaker Return Left Rear pin 9 (yl) Switched Ground pin 10 (pk) Courtesy Lamps pin 11 pin 12 pin 13 (db/or) Speaker Return Right Rear pin 14 (db/wt) Speaker Feed Right Rear pin 15 (lg) Seat Belt Switch pin 16 (or/bk) Panel Illumination
  2. That is a nice looking truck, but those puddles under the engine bay would have concerned me.
  3. Looks great (i'm partial to white MJ's with Moabs). The interior conversion came out real well too. btw, time to update your avatar.
  4. if i can get the power XJ tracks i have to work in my MJ, then i won't need the MJ trim any longer. Its a big if tho, its going to take some fab work. I plan to start a build thread one of these days...hopefully you'll see a post in there about working power seat tracks sometime this summer. If you are still looking for them, pm me and we'll work something out (btw, they are gray). I'd be happy to get them to someone who could use them. I know how hard it is to find trim pieces for the MJ...see my sig and notice the original post date of my wtb thread.
  5. My 91 had them. i don't remember if my 92 had them, but that the PO could have removed them. I'm also not sure if they are the same between XJs and MJs. I have a set from each somewhere, buried deep in box in a storage closet.
  6. I've used or tried to use the following from pre 96 XJs: door panels: Yes from a 4 door. (make sure if you have crank windows and manual locks, it has the same). Entire Dash: yes Seats: yes, see this DIY project. If its important to you to have the seat back to fold forward to access the back of the cab, you will need a seat from a 94 or earlier 2 door XJ. It has the same lever on the outside of the seat that allows the seatback to fold forward. Center Console: yes, see this DIY thread. A-pillar trim: the a-pillar trim from a 4 door will fit with some trimming. The trimmed area is toward the back of the cab and the cut is hidden by other trim panels. Kick Panels: Yes Headliner: not really Sun Visors: yes, some XJs have visors that cover all the way across. Some leave space in the middle for overhead consoles. Overhead console: yes with some major trimming. Our cabs do have the mounting holes for the front part of the console. Seatbelts: Not that i've been able to tell. Female Seatbelt receivers: yes Grab handles: yes I'm sure somebody will come along to correct me in a place or two and/or add to the list.
  7. I'm in a similar situation, and Eagle's suggestion about a new dash harness is the way i'm going to go. The PO put in an aftermarket stereo, amp and alarm and the harness is hacked up. The alarm would go off while i was driving. I tried to replace the dummy panel with a known good clock and it wouldn't work. I've also been driving around without a dash while i work on the interior and it's taking a little longer each time to start. The battery and the alternator have been tested good and troubleshooting the hacked up harness seems to be a waste of time. I look at is as another excuse to work on the truck. A dash harness from a loaded 2 door 92 XJ would help with a clean install for power doors, window and mirrors.
  8. In order to be able to move the shifter left or right for the slap stick gear changes, are you going to have to figure out a way to temporarily disengage the shifter from the shift cable? I was thinking of getting the aw4 shift kit, but i really wasn't thrilled with all the buttons and choices for shift controllers. For me the ideal solution would basically use the stock shifter and a gate like similar to this: Full automatic mode that keeps 3 and 1/2. Pushing the shifter to the right while in D would take the place of the auto/manual switch in the kit. Slapping up and down is more intuitive than left and right. Then i would put the torque converter lockup switch next to the power/comfort switch on the dash. Its an interesting project, hope you guys are able to work something out.
  9. Sorry about the KJ, but as others have said the most important thing is that your wife and kids are ok.
  10. beaterjeep is remembering correctly. From JohnQ's buildup thread: Ideally i would like to move the a/c controls to where the vent is, relocate the vent somewhere else (change holder in the full console maybe) and put in a double din system. Its pretty far on my to do list, and not sure it would work anyway.
  11. actually you didn't drive up the price, two people bid 30 for it. So i was going to pay what i did either way.
  12. looks like 1999mj's truck...here is his thread here: http://www.comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2962
  13. Good to hear you got the dash in and everything works. I'm not looking forward to swapping dashes later this summer. btw, when your carpet arrives, post up what you think about the quality and fit.
  14. what about this: I was considering something like this with the stock tank to make bed removal easier in the future. full thread: http://www.comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=169
  15. no worries john, if you were closer i would have probably asked. Those 6 bolts were actually not too bad, but there were a few others that took longer than they should. if you can bring the impact gun with you on saturday, we may need it. I haven't separated the bell housing from the transmission yet; i just ran out of day on saturday. Let me know about that trailer as soon as you can. Already gave notice to the storage facility that i would be out by the end of the weekend.
  16. i didn't have an impact gun, so i ended up having to use a breaker bar, a tire iron and two bolts. One bolt went into the inspection cover, the other onto a belt housing bolt hole on the engine. Wedged the tire iron between the two to keep the fly wheel from rotating and held onto it with one hand. Cranked off the bolts with the breaker bar. It might be time to invest in an impact gun. The engine is up on the stand now. Very very slowly over time i will be disassembling the it to see if it in good enough shape to turn into a stroker. mjeff87 and Jeepco, thanks again for the suggestions.
  17. and the winner is...shake and pull. So the trans is basically separated. Do i need to pull out the spacer, and those other plates before i put it on the engine stand. If so, are those 6 large bolts holding it all together? Thanks
  18. This is what i'm hoping it isn't. Thanks guys for the suggestions. After a couple of hours of sleep i'm coherent enough to form sentences, so i'll try to explain what's going on a little better. Not that it won't mean what's already suggested won't work. The transmission fluid has been drained and the starter is off. The bolts that attach the bell housing to the engine are all out. At least i'm pretty sure they are; removed 6 or 8 bolts on the housing side, and two on the engine side. There is a little bit of separation between the bell housing and the engine; maybe an inch. It's enough that spacer or dust cover or spacer whatever can be moved back and forth some and i can see inside the bell housing. While up in the air, i can rotate the transmission a full 360 degrees around whatever shaft is holding everything together. Its also so covered in oil, its possible i missed what would normally be an obvious bolt. I'm off in a little bit to try what's been suggested already...but i'll probably be back in an hour or two if i can't get them apart.
  19. it more than wiggles, it spins completely around. I'm at that stage of tired where i'm going to need to find a picture and have someone point out exactly where i should be looking. I don't remember pulling out anything that i would describe as upper/side bolts, so right there is one possibility.
  20. wow thanks for the quick response. i was editing my initial post because i left out the info about which bolts i've already removed. Starter is off already too. I'll have to double check and make sure i got the bolts for the inspection cover.
  21. '91 4.0L 4x2 with ax-15 trans. Pulled the engine and transmission together from the truck but now can't figure out how to separate the two. It's late and i'm tired which isn't helping any. All the dust shield bolts are removed. The transmission is kind of loose and will spin completely around the crankshaft. any help appreciated, engine hoist rental is up at 2pm on Saturday and i'm hoping to get it up on the stand by then. Thanks in advance.
  22. a black interior.... and some good garage space to work
  23. Pics of one in this thread... http://www.comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4673
  24. Agreed on DHL. Those rubicon rims i was telling you about on saturday arrived today. Sent thursday from Las Vegas via DHL ground for about $18/wheel. Might be even cheaper from Denver since DHL has a regional hub there.
