90MJext Posted January 5, 2009 Share Posted January 5, 2009 I acquired a 1990 Comanche Eliminator, 2wd, 4.0 auto, about three years ago for $0. It had been abandoned and picked up by a buddy (wrecker company), long story short he gave it to me. It has sat in the garage waiting for me to make my mind up and money. I have been lurking for awhile and will be using quite a few peoples builds as references: Wrenches gone Wild/Mild, Drahcir495's Build-up, Project Onyx, to name a few My intentions are to have a dependable truck that looks decent and functions properly that can be possibly passed down to my grandson(jury still out on that one). Things that I want to do: '97+ front clip - looking '00 Cherokee Doors - have '00 dash - have '00 interior - have '00 wiring - have POR15 floors updated windshield moulding and windshield 2500 taillights - waiting for LED interior/exterior lights, except headlights - working on fresh paint , Gun metal grey new decals(vinyl) "ELIMINATOR"bed, "JEEP" front/back, "COMANCHE"fenders (old style font) no gradientImage Not Found new undercoating updated rear bumper Image Not Found powdercoat bumpers showbar, black ????? removal of any and all chrome, sorry Hornbrod Liberty lightbar ??Image Not Found 4.0/AW4 rebuild (undecided)thanks Bo 4.3/700R4 ?????? - have 8.8 axle - have complete rebuild the suspension (bushings, etc) powdercoat clear or black chrome wheels Image Not Found original truck pictures Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
90MJext Posted January 5, 2009 Author Share Posted January 5, 2009 Removed the windshield trim, wipers, cowl to remove the windshield. I used a flat tip screwdriver on the passenger lower corner and pried up. I lifted the windshield up and pressed from the inside with my hand with no resistance, until i go to the driver side top and the windshield cracked. Image Not Found I know now why the carpet is screwed up. Image Not Found Scrapped the windshield frame Image Not Found I'll finish it when I get the dash out. removed back wall carpet, there are 2 clips on each side and 2 screws on the bottom. Image Not Found Image Not Found removed the rest of the passenger trim. the passenger door, '00, had been put on earlier when I got a spurt to do something. Drahcir495 Posted January 5, 2009 Share Posted January 5, 2009 Make sure you post a few "before" pictures of the truck. I always love to see how the project started out ;) . That sucks about the windshield. My windshield was the cause of all my floor rust :fs1: . I hope you can get one of those S10 bumpers on it soon; I am dying to see a write up on it. JohnQ said at one time he was attempting to do the same thing. You may want to hit him up for some input. 90MJext Posted January 6, 2009 Author Share Posted January 6, 2009 shelbyluvv - I appreciate the parts, did you get the axle off loaded Drahcir495 - I'll try to get it out of the garage this weekend, hopefully it will stop raining. working on acquiring the bumper and then try to do a write up jtdesigns - looking for the light bar, a little steep at the dealership, If I can't find it in the junkyard will probably buy the housing and go from there. 90MJext Posted January 12, 2009 Author Share Posted January 12, 2009 ---small update--- started removing the windshield trim pins, all but removed the engine wiring harness (PO really hacked the hell out of the harness), removed the header panel, pass fender. moving slowly, honey do's keep getting in the way. 90MJext Posted February 8, 2009 Author Share Posted February 8, 2009 still looking for a Colorado rear bumper, picked up a '98 S10 bumper for 50.00. Turned it around so I can get the motor out. Removed the front bumper, breaking all four of the clips. Started disconnecting the wiring from the motor and draining fluids. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Image Not Found Switched the brackets on the S10 bumper. there are four bolts, two are accessible from the bottom of the bumper 3/4 socket, Image Not Found the other two you have to remove the plastic cap, I started on the end and slowly pried with a screwdriver Image Not Found remove cap and expose the other bolts, 3/4. Image Not Found I switched the brackets loosely tightened, "C" facing towards the center, Image Not Found to see where I needed to cut the S10 brackets, removed the brackets and measured approximately 5 1/8 from the edge Image Not Found reinstalled the brackets, loosely tighten bolts, and placed the bumper on the truck bumper brackets for mock up and alignment Image Not Found Image Not Found haven't decided if I going to weld the "new" brackets to the "old" or bolt them. 90MJext Posted February 26, 2009 Author Share Posted February 26, 2009 got the motor/trans out 02/24/2009 took it to the scrapper today. completed the first bay cleaning with degreaser and oven cleaner. Image Not Found finished removing the dash and started on the padding. Image Not Found started working on the seat brackets for the '00 seats, work in progress. Image Not Found once I finish stripping the interior I'll address the rusty areas, small areas on the passenger side floorboard (no holes) and the battery tray/frame area. Been collecting parts: spring over conversion from Motion Offroad, thanks again all new steering linkage from NAPA. awaiting delivery 97 ZJ OHC, WJ LCA, ZJ V8 steering gearbox and front swaybar for 100.00 I've also had a chance to disconnect and start removing the Dana 35. 90MJext Posted February 28, 2010 Author Share Posted February 28, 2010 Finally after a loong delay got my front axle back in, all poly bushings are in except for shackles. Picked my motor up again and two wiring harness. Been working on a new cluster since the '00 cluster will not work with my motor, obd1+obd2=X, plexiglass and auto meter gauges using the '00 overlay.
