ridergoatee
Looking for reasons why flex on front axle is not to my liking. Pictures and CW's response are in "my Project" forum under "FINALLY". I have run it back up on 18" stump, bump stops ok, but not stuffing tire into wheelwell as does the rear. Could coils be too stiff? Shock on compressed side has approx. 6-7" of shaft showing also. Could it be shock, coil or am I missin' something? As you can see, body of truc should be level, ideally. mvusse
With the rear wheels level and the front wheel slanted, the body will never be level. But I believe it shouldn't tilt as much as it does, though. Could be shocks, could be springs, could be combination of both. You do have the sway bar disconnected, right?

Maybe not perfectly level...but definitely the appearance of being level. You can see there is no sway bar on his rig by the last pic. I would say the front springs are just stiffer or of a higher spring rate than your rear leafs. Is it a problem, no, not really I mean its not a dedicated off road rig is it? Mitch
looks good to me, get out and wheel it, you might need to go taller than 18" or whatever the actual hieght is of your test thing. I don't know what was said in the other threads, but there are too many factors that could come into play - and we need more than 3 pictures to see whats going on with your front and rear end. I will end with I thought I was having problems with flexing on my front end, until I drove one of my rear tires up a huge pile of loam about 3 foot high - stuffed the front tire pretty good. ridergoatee
Appreciate the quick responses! Not totally dedicated wheeler,CW, but after the pics you sent to the my other thread, I was gettin' a lil' concerned. I do have to tell you that it is one climbing mammer-jammer though! Was play around out the quarry today and was pretty pleased! But to get back to the shock Q: I haven't checked, but shouldn't it compress with little or no shaft reveal? CWLONGSHOT
What do you mean by "shaft reveal"? What I see is just a soft leaf sprung truck. 18" isnt tat high to force compression. The rear is likely near the stops and has "given" as much as it can. Here is a shot of my MJ back when it was on 31's and about 3" of lift. this was a wash where oposite corners forced compression. I had to push a couple stock Wranglersand two land rovers thru this. The MJ ate it up like a strol in the park. ridergoatee
CW, what I meant was that pulling the shock boot down, I still have about 6" of upper shaft showing on the compressed side. Hope that makes sense to you.
Eagle
Hey, CW -- Where were those shots taken? That trail looks a bit like a trail I've been on toward the nothern part of CT near Sturbridge. MA. Didn't know it was still open. Is that the place, or do you have some other place to wheel?

Didn't know it was still open. Is that the place, or do you have some other place to wheel? Yes I believe we are speaking of the same place. As of 1996 yes it was still open to wheeling as long as you contacted the ranger beforehand. and where part of a group. No rouge wheeling allowed. OK roger that on the shock compression side. So that's not your issue as there is plenty there to compress. I am still saying its just a matter of softer leafs out back. CW
BREEZE1
I think its fine. Don’t worry too much about it. Just keep wheeling it and break the springs in. a lot of the other pictures you see of flexing jeeps when the hood is level the back is flexed in the opposite direction. Just take that into account. Go put that bad @$$ Comanche in a real bind then take some pics of it. And if it’s not flexing right, maybe your shocks are not long enough. (Disconnect the shocks and flex it just to see). I think it looks BOMB DIGGADY!!! Keep up the good work. :chillin:
DrThunder
Flex?? Go try it out and get back to us. You can't tell much from driveway pictures.
pingpong
Rigs always flex better when it is forced...Ideally you want about 2" of shaft left at max flex (sitting on bump stops). Also keep in mind as parts are flexed and used they soften, and flex normally increases.
