This is the last trim piece I need to remove before I re-paint.

What is the best way to remove these letters? I intend to reattach.

Use 2 screwdrivers to pop off the retention cages that wrap around the anchoring pin shafts. I have also found sometimes a sheetmetal cage nut has replaced the cages.

Mine where attached with sticky tape, a couple of razor blades, some pressure, and a small pry from a screw driver and my letters popped off. Your results may vary.

You have to remove the brace attached to the radiator support that the header panel bolts to. Your '89 should have nuts that hold the letters in place, at least my '88, '89, and '90 do. In '91 they went to adhesive backed letters and headers without holes in them.

My '89 header used nuts to hold on the emblem. A 1/4 drive flex socket worked well.

;)

My' 94 and '95 XJ headers used double sided tape to hold the emblems on. Some heat from a heat gun and they came right off. Any tape that was left rolled right off with a little more heat. :brows:

My '89 had pins in the back of the letters that fit snuggly into holes in the sheet metal and a dab of glue. I pryed them off with a thin flatbar.
