Catatonic Comanche
Why do you advise not to buy Rusty's? Cheers!
DirtyComanche
Oh, it's just a little sticking point with me. I should probably edit my sig to say 'don't buy rusty's LAs, or anything else made in-house'. Poor design, poor quality, didn't fit right, etc. Some things just left me shaking my head. What the hell is up with their track-bar bracket anyways? I showed it to my brother (he's an engineer) and he pretty much told me that it was going to sheer, just based on a comparsion with the stock ones. he said in all likelyhood it was WEAKER than the stock bracket. Powdercoating blows, welds blow, bunch of other crap that I generally didn't like the look of. If you want more details I'd go on. Their stuff is alright, if you like the mall. Pete M
It essentially boils down to "you get what you pay for". Cheap parts are cheap for a reason. Lesser quality processes and less R+D equate to a less expensive product. That isn't to say that everything that Rusty makes is crap, just that I hear more grumbling about the cheaper suspension products out there than the high-end stuff like Rubicon Express. I got 3" coils from Rusty and I love them, but rumor has it that the springs are actually made by an outside vendor. I also have his track bar bracket and it has held up just fine so far (I remember hearing stories of failures with the early batches, but I have a later one). That is, aside from the rust. But then, EVERYTHING on my truck rusts, so it's not like I can tell if it's anything special.
DirtyComanche
Yes, I'll admit it's 'get what you pay for'. But, as far as R&D goes, $#!& I could be drunk as f' and still be more thoughtful than they are. That track bar bracket is just so retarded that I was left feeling empty inside. I welded flat bar to the outside of it, perpendicular to the flat side, so it's not a matter of putting all the force on a 3/8 peice of plate on the narrow side. Springs aren't in-house. The supplier is the same as the RE ones, I think. It takes a huge investment to make springs, so it makes way more sense to outsource them. $#!&, I'm way to drunk to explain things/

Catatonic Comanche
Wow...I certainly appreciate the good advice! What is your opinion of the kit that Rocky Road Outfitters offers? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jeep-Comanche-lift-kit-5_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33585QQitemZ8060992396QQrdZ1 Cheers!
Pete M
Any 5"+ lift kit that claims to offer a good ride should have drop brackets for short control arms or full long arms in their design. At the very least, longer short arms are required to maintain the caster angle and keep the tire centered in the wheelwell. That ebay lift doesn't include any replacement control arms and should be avoided. Notice how close the front tires are to the rear of the wheelwell. Plus, why the heck don't they offer full lift coils?
DansGreyMj
does that kit use the stock control arms cuz i read what it includes and it doesnt say anything about control arms
pingpong
As for getting what you pay for.. Rusty's price is right up there with RE, and TNT
DirtyComanche
That Rocky Road lift is garbage. There's a couple threads about it. Anyways, it uses stock arms, BIG no-no. And it has large spacers plus coils. Why not just a longer coil? Everything about it screams cheap. Umm, yeah, stop picking on me Pat! I'm just an idiot. Well, you live and you learn, really. It was probably for the better though. It forced me to buy a stcik welder and learn to stick. It takes a huge investment to make springs, so it makes way more sense to outsource them. As for comparion, our springs are manufactured by the same company that makes Rancho , Fabtech, Rubicon Express, Rubicon was having problems with their coil company and asked who we where using and are now using them. I have a few friends with Rusty's lifts and they all love them.

Please explain. -Will Dude, I have no idea what "attitude" I am supposed to "explain" to you. Yes, I asked for an opinion and was simply overwhelmed with advice. As for your allegations of my not 'looking for the answers received' and that I got "upset", that is YOUR opinion. I actually have had my eyes on the Rubicon Express kit for some time... I was a happy guy sitting down with my first beer of the eve when I wrote that and I even posted a joke to DC about getting a bed for his Comanche although it is my "opinion" that he would have one if he wanted one! DirtyComanche
Oh, that's an old pic. It has a body now, sorta. The front is mostly there. Actually, I even put fender flares back on it. They're ugly as sin. And I put the doors back on because it rains every day... And I'm working on the flatbed. I had to put something back on it to make it street legal. Well, make it LOOK steet legal.

GirsMJ86
what do you guys think about rough country kits? i am thinking about buying their 3" lift kit for now untill i decide if i want a 6+ on my mj or if i just want to wait till i find a j-truck or m-715 to lift way up there. alex
DirtyComanche
Rough Country has a pretty bad rep. Their name and ride quality has a corrolation.
GirsMJ86
well does anyone out there have a cheap but good complete 3" lift kit out there for the mj? alex
pingpong
I have never dealt with any "real lift" lift companies. I called around looking for a 5" lift about 3 yrs ago, and the only company that offered one for the MJ was RE, and their kit was the same as the XJ kit, but with a set of spring perches for the same price :shake: Then I found a wrecked XJ with Drop brackets, and bent Control arms. Everyone thought I was smoking crap :chillin: cause I was going to rn the Drop brackets with stock arms  well after about 6 HARD runs I bent a LCA  Then I decided that 1/8 plate welded to the bottom was the answer :smart: and it was ;) till I went to Long arms  This is when things got rough.. No one installed a LA kit on a MJ yet  So I went with the cheapest kit I could find that I thought would work  It did, with minor mods. DC I am not picking on you, or anyone else who had to learn on their own, but it does pay to learn by others mistakes. To me the best bang for the buck when it comes to a MJ lift over 5.5" of lift would have to be a hybrid kit of RE parts and custom Leaf springs. By no means would this be a cheap option, and your lift would be worth more then the truck, but it would be worth driving.
GirsMJ86
all i need is a mj kit that is 3". anyone know of any that are good but cheap? rough country is the cheapest i have found. their kit to me don't look too bad plus Jp mag said it was an ok lift. but idk for sure. so any ideas would really help me out. alex
