I stumbled upon jeepcables.com last night and it got me wondering whether my truck might benefit from some new cables. I think my headlights are dimmer than they should be and I've occasionally had issues starting it up. It seems like the starter takes longer than it should. The starter itself looks great, so I wasn't convinced it was actually at fault.

For those of you who've upgraded the battery and headlight cables, what benefits did you see? Is it worth doing? How would you convince yourself it's necessary before spending the money, and how did you decide which gauge to buy? I assume 4 gauge is enough for a stock Comanche.

I would go with the heaviest cables you can afford.

Have you added a headlight relay harness yet? That’s the common fix for our headlights.

I haven't, but I was planning to buy them along with the battery cables. How much of a difference do you think the battery cables will make? Does the resistance really increase even without visible corrosion?

I don’t think the battery cables will make much difference in the headlights. You will see the difference in starting the truck.

I run jeepcables on everything I've had. Very pleased all around. Nothing crazy I've noticed from swapping them other than the old ones where beat to F.

I have a set of Jeep Cables on my 1993 ZJ and by far I prefer them!

In my '89 MJ, I decided to try out the K Suspension cables, but I don't think the kit is as good as the Jeep Cables one.

And definitely invest in a good set of headlight harnesses. Behind some IPF/ARB 820s or some Koito H4s, those things GLOW!!!

My 89 is pretty much stock and am using 4ga cables on mine along with doing all of the cruiser ground upgrades. I felt bigger wire was a bit much for mine but if I had extra accessories I would’ve gone with 2ga.

When I replaced my battery cables the first time I used 4ga premade cables from the parts store, they are cheesy and would not recommend.

I also went with the KSuspension headlight harness upgrade. For 25 bucks I am really happy with what they accomplished and they are local to me. Made a huge difference! I also am running the Rampage headlight housings. But the headlights on my MJ blow the heck out of the ones in the stock 90 XJ.
