I have a 1992 jeep Comanche 4.0 4x4. Wanting to purchase the advanced adapters ax15 external slave conversion kit. What pilot bearing do I order? Also when ordering a clutch kit, do I order it for a 1992 jeep Comanche? Or from like a 1995 xj?

Pilot bushing should fit the snout of your tranny which should be 5/8 inner bore. Clutch kit will be any 94+ XJ. Luk rep-set has been a pretty good go to. Make sure to resurface the flywheel while you’re in there :L:

So the pilot bearing that comes in the 1994+ clutch kit will fit?

Actually, it probably won’t fit. When they went to external slave, the tranny input shaft was 3/4 vs the 5/8. A pilot bushing from 93- XJ should fit.

Interesting, I never knew that one

Not that it really matters but the previous owner switched my truck to an internal slave AX15 and it had the 3/4 inch inputshaft. I was very surprised to find this when I changed to the external slave setup. I think the switch to the larger input shaft was before the external slave cylinder.

You may already have the larger input shaft you will have to measure it when you pull out your transmission.

Also when I switched to the external slave cylinder I did not change my clutch because it had less than 10,000 miles on it and was in great shape. I did not run into any issues with the internal slave clutch with the external slave cylinder.

Quite possible. 94+ I believe all have the 3/4 but maybe a later model internal slave has one as well. I know my 90 ax15 needed the 5/8 bushing.

It appears that the changeover may have happened a little earlier than I thought. External slave in 94 but 3/4 pilot tip in 92. That is per the part number I'm coming across in every jeep application for those years. Parts manual seems to corroborate this. I'm not positive if its the 92 model year or build year yet though.
