Today's accomplishments

Some of you may remember my 88 4 cyl 4 speed 2wd comanche parts truck that I got for $75 with a full set of Canyon rims on it and BFG Mud Terrains.

 

I didn't get a title and I needed the engine (which I was told was junk when I purchased it) for my jeep cherokee.

 

 

the floors are gone, but it really was salveagable (mild rust over flares, zero rust on rockers). that's not in the cards as TNT is using the cab to extend his cab, and I'm making a trailer out of the box

 

as I picked it up

 

 

here's what I did today

 

cut the radiator support all out to keep in case I do another 3.8 swap or 4.0 swap into an 84-86 cherokee or comanche (since it's a 4.0 radiator support with 4 cylinder radiator adapter)

I didn't bother pulling the bumper off yet...

cut out the front axle (control arms) and the frame rails, about this point TNT showed up to cut out his front fender wells so he can extend his

took out the tranny, muffler, and brake and fuel lines (the exhaust is brand new and going to another local MJ guy as are the brake and fuel lines)

 

You WON'T believe it, but every single crossmember bolt came out with no problems too

 

all that's left is to chop the frame rail directly behind the cab tomorrow morning, then I can move the rear portion of it out of the way and TNT gets his cab. the windshield is uncracked too, so it will be going in my 1986 jeep cherokee. the doors are staying here as well, passenger side will be a half door since it's dented up, driver's side is pretty close to mint.

thanks...I even picked up my lower longarms from Bullykatz today :D and borrowed his mounts so I can do some measurements.

 

ANNND i found another MJ today that's as mint as mint can be.

 

this one's a secret for a few days while I try and figure out the $$$ factor...if I can't get it you guys will get the pics and contact info. specs; 1988 4.0 auto 165k miles from california. 2wd longbed, absolutely zero rust, mint rear bumper and front bumper, factory fog and cargo light, brand new tires, newer exhaust, fresh paint (did magnet test, no bondo so I assume it's to fix sun fade or match parts if anything was swapped).

 

so far I've found 3 comanches THIS MONTH alone, and gotten them sold to club members to boot (geonovast and bullykatz). how is it that these things are rare? they practically walk up to me and park themselves on my lawn! :nuts:

Yes it was a fun day.

 

I'll be bringing my torches to Pats to cut the rear frame rails in the AM.

 

It should be at my place by 10am.

 

After cutting up the front rails mine are going to be plated on all sides.

I can get kinda crazy at times and want it to be ready. The whole frame will be reinforced.

it'd be for my dad's restore, then this drivetrain would go in his truck for a beater offroad truck.

 

...this one's already completely done it just needs a nice diesel under the hood ;)

 

but, don't fret I'm still tryin to figure everything out on alot of stuff...my brain is dead :nuts:

finished chopping it today. I'm keeping the box and using it as my first attempt at real body work, and to teach me to weld properly.

 

TNT is using the rear of the cab to extend his cab.

only took a month and a half of saying I'd get it done for me to finally get it done...thanks to tim for helping since my torch ran out of gas on sunday.

Holy good use of recycling an old MJ Batman! Like human organ recycling nothing is wasted from that MJ carcass in JeepcoMJ's neck of the woods. :bowdown: Out here in California I have no space to save an MJ or even reconstitute it, and it is great to see someone saving an MJ from the crusher and re-using the parts.

sawzall worked pretty good for me, even after killing the only two metal blades i had and switching to a demo blade it went quick.

and ya akamcbird, I'd have done that and kept the rails...except I didn't wanna gut the interior outside, it's cold right now.

 

oh well. I'm building a strong front frame that will bolt on and then weld onto the rear framing.

after cutting the wedges those rails flopped inward all by them selves,should be plenty strong after plating them though. (still, 3 months later,waiting for a buddy to remember to bring his welder, think ill have to break down and buy a cheepo.)
