"Back Rack"?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone fabricated any sort of "Back Rack"? I'm looking for some ideas for my truck to mount some rear facing work lights. I don't want to drill into the cab and I was trying to stay away from any sort of roll bar to avoid taking up bed space. Thanks for any input.

you can try mounting them on your rear bumper,, there you have options,, drill the bumper and put them on,, or you can "hang" them from the bumper ... use your imagination..
I think he is wanting lights that will provide illumination inside the bed...not just behind the truck ;) .

Thanks guys. Yeah, I wanted the lights mounted high so they could be used for working in the truck bed and for light behind the truck. I'll take a look at the bar in Quadratec, but I think some sort of "Back Rack" style setup is what I am really looking for since it is more dual purpose and can offer some protection to the rear window depending on its design. Anyone else got anything?

here's my bro's "roll bar"/toolbox combo (holds 2 gerry cans, one military shovel, hi-lift, clevis and strap hook, and hi-lift mount, plus the toolbox area and spare tire)

he needs to finish it off with diamondplate right now...

but he also has snowboard/kayak racks up top too..

anyways, I know that takes more room than you'd want to, BUT you can do something like that without the gerry cans or toolbox, and have two support arms go to the wheel wells;

it would function as a rollbar in worst-case, but still not take up as much room as a conventional rollbar

Both of those are similar to what I had in mind. I agree with the earlier statement about the current production back-racks. They don't do much for me either. If you have some more pics RamRod I would definitely like to see them. Thanks for all the replies.

It's alot lighter than the stuff I usually make.....but so is the mj. :cheers:

If you want any mounted pics let me know....but it's a pretty straight forward idea.

thats a great idea, did you mount it throught the top or the side of the rail?
