mark 39
Drove my '87 MJ 4.0 AT on errands today. Several stop-starts no problems, then no start. Would sputter but not continue to run. Could not hear fuel pump when turning on switch. Jumped the resister on left inner fender,no go. Don't know what else to check before I call pump failure. Any suggestions would be welcome. If I need a new pump what brand(s) are reliable and what other parts will I need to order? Thanks for any help. Mark
89 MJ
I’d check the fuel pressure at the rail before replacing anything.
Limeyjeeper
Carter makes a good pump and it fits really well.
Gojira94
With Advance Auto folding up a large chunk of its US footprint, a fair number of NOS Bosch 69302 pumps are turning up. I picked one up on EBay for about $70 USD. Came in a CarQuest (Advance’s commercial side) box. Comes with all that’s needed to fit in our sending units in place of the original, longer, 70mm roller-vane pumps.
mark 39
I went out this morning and turned the key and heard the pump prime and engine started. I unhooked ceramic ballast jumper bypass and restarted engine 3-4 times let it warm up and checked fuel pressure; 39-30 lbs. vacuum hooked-unhooked. Now I don't know if I should trust it or not; don't want to pay to get it home again. I won't be able to work on this for a few weeks due to eye surgery but would be nice to be able to get around if need be.
JeepSchmidt O'Guinness Posted yesterday at 04:17 PM Share Posted yesterday at 04:17 PM Does anything look amiss regarding fuel pump relay, auto shut off relay, fuel pump ballast relay (not sure if renix eletrical even has that relay) or the c101 connector at the fire wall. Does the ground for the fuel pump located behind the tail light look secure/clean? My experience with intermittent issues is normally wiring not being secured...
