Salvagedcircuit
I just ordered a Westin 63000 bumper and I was wondering what you guy's think of it. It's a 3rd party bumper and I'm ok with that, but I'm not ok with 3rd world quality. The one I received was poorly welded and used an extensive amount of black silicone to cover the poor welds. The weld splatter was not even cleaned off and just painted over. I usually order parts in expectation that a manufacturer will produce something better than I could in my own shop. Besides being uncomfortably thin, I am really alarmed with the terrible fit and finish. My old bumper looked similar but was actually a Hercules utility bumper. I have to go back and check the thickness difference but from just feeling it, there is a noticeable difference. What do you guys think of this bumper? I'm going to add some photos in a bit. eaglescout526
Huh. How odd. I ordered one many years ago before finding an OEM bumper and mine was quality.
89 MJ
That’s a shame that it wasn’t nice. Going to try to get another one? Or going a different route with the rear bumper?
coheed
I ordered one maybe 4 years ago and have had no issue with mine. Not the best welds, but they're fine. The "skin" of the bumper is 14ga at best, but the frame is much thicker. Very minimal silicone to cover seams on it. I assume with everything in the last few years they've switched to a different production facility that doesn't have the same QC, but hopefully yours is a one-off miss. I would try and get it swapped without paying on my part and hope I don't get a crappy one. If the second was the same quality, I'd get my money back. I know a few people that work in aerospace and power generation facility building and they are struggling with these issues, so it's easy to assume a company that sells bumpers would have the same problems. pizzaman09
I have the Westin Fey bumper, no idea when it was installed but it was pretty mint when I purchased my truck, so probably about 4 years. It's beautiful, very nicely built, does have a bit of black silicone on it, that's fine. I love it, I town with a ball attached to it frequently, it says 3000lbs on it but I've towed around 5000 through it. I did weld a couple of chain hooks onto mine. 1 hour ago, coheed said: I know a few people that work in aerospace and power generation facility building and they are struggling with these issues, so it's easy to assume a company that sells bumpers would have the same problems. I work for an aerospace parts supplier, it's been a serious struggle getting enough quality parts since COVID. Quite frustrating. The big aerospace companies really only care about one thing any more, can you deliver.
