Eagle
i forgot what mag i read it in but t said that the toy rear was almost as strong as a 44 Yeah, but the Toy axle uses a 6-bolt flange, like on full-size pickups and the old full-size Cherokee and J trucks. 88swampedmj
yea thats why iam just going to save up for an 8.
pingpong
There are so many good axle choices out there it is unbeliveable. One of my favorites besides the 8.8 is the Isuzu D44. Disc brakes :D , drop out third section :D last but not least 4.56 was a common gear ratio  Did I mention Troopers, and older amigo's are cheap
88swampedmj
but i have 4.10s so iam tryin to get an 8.8 that already has them and a limited slip...

pingpong
You are right, I was thinking of their 12 bolt axle
Cooter
It's actually a pretty good axle, but I don't know anyone running one.
pingpong
I know 2 ppl running them  but they are in quasi buggies, so that really don't count, cause they are extremely braced, and weight is not a factor. The only down fall I have heard about them is the lack of gear selection.
feerocknok
The only down fall I have heard about them is the lack of gear selection. From Randy's Ring & Pinion: Toyota 8": 3.90 4.11 4.56 4.88 5.29 5.71 Dana 44: 3.07 3.31 3.54 3.73 3.92 4.09 4.27 4.55 4.89 5.13 5.38 5.89 Personally, I'd go 8.8 with rear if I was concerned with track width and bolt pattern. I've got stats and people's personal experiences on the strength of that axle bookmarked from Pirate. Their growing popularity will bring gearing and locker options about. As well, Explorers had them with discs... Nice. Ford 8.8": 2.73 3.08 3.27 3.31 3.55 3.73 3.90 4.10 4.30 4.56 4.88 5.13 5.71 6.14 Here's the Pirate discussion: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/archive/ ... 24854.html QUITE lengthy. I'm swapping out my Toy's axle with a 44 for track width concerns (and cause I got it for free). Need to go fullsize, not expecting much in the strength department. DirtyComanche
The Izusu D44 uses different gears, methinks. But I only read the izusu stuff when I'm REALLY bored.
pingpong
We were talking about the Isuzu 12 bolt

DirtyComanche
Oh right, their 12 bolt. I think there's only 3 gear ratios for it...
