TeKdo Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 Does anyone know the thickness of the rubber isolators that are supposed to go behind the split window latch are? Or at least it's what I think feels like a rubber isolator. Ever since the weather's been in the 30s and 40s here my rear glass has been rattling at the latch and I can see/feel what is supposed to be a rubber isolator on the back of the latch that has just shrunk over time. I'm guestimating it to be between 1 or 2mm but wanted to double check to see if anyone has an exact measurement so I can order a rubber sheet to make a new isolator. I've got a piece of cardboard wedge in right now just to stop the rattle.
pizzaman09 Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 I didn't realize there was supposed to be a piece of rubber there, mine rattles too. Subscribed to learn more!
fiatslug87 Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 There is no rubber there, the latch is attached directly to the glass just like the rearview mirror button.

If that's the case, then I'm gonna add silicon or putty or something to the back of this thing. The screws are tightened as far as they'll go and I can't stand the rattle on this thing right next to my head. My Comanche is my daily for the winter and I definitely can't live with the rattle every day for a couple hours.

There's 2 screws per side and. They go to a backing plate on the outside of the window. I'll take a picture tomorrow if it's confusing too.

Been a busy morning but here's a pic of the setup on my glass...I'm assuming that since you're asking about the screws that they're not factory The other side is fastened to the window the same way too Edited December 12, 2024 by TeKdo missing infi
fiatslug87 Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 Yes, not a stock slider, is that a four panel? The stock clip looks like this with two fixed glass panels and a single slider.
89 MJ Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 I can get pictures of my 4 piece slider stuff in about a week in a half. I can’t recall any rubber there, but mine will rattle unless I have both windows square in the frame.

It's the same from some old GM square bodies from what I've seen. I do know that all the glass except for the windshield in this truck is original and it's never been out.

Can I replace those with the glass in the truck or I do have to disassemble everything to fix this?

Could you get a Laurence slider to fit into the factory glass back in the day? I read that the Laurence ones have a metal frame but mine still has the big stock gasket

You should be able to get it positioned right so that it won’t rattle. 30 minutes ago, TeKdo said: Could you get a Laurence slider to fit into the factory glass back in the day? fiatslug87 Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 Maybe CRL stands for Comanche Rear Latch
TeKdo Posted December 13, 2024 Author Posted December 13, 2024 4 hours ago, Pete M said: my CRL rattled when new over 20 years ago. I guess that's mystery solved then, I'm gonna look into adding a vibration damper of some kind behind the latch. Confirmed my rattle is coming from the latch specifically since the window is square in the frame and goes away when I just touch the latch. I'll see how roadkill I can get with this solution soon
