TheFerret55 Posted March 30, 2024 Posted March 30, 2024 I just pulled an ECU out of a 90 Cherokee (doing the upgrade for my 88 MJ) and noticed it doesn’t have the factory sticker on it but one that says it’s a Mopar rebuild from 2002. Is there anything special with these (I heard somewhere that there was a Mopar upgraded ECU at one point?) or is it the same specs as an OEM computer? Thanks!
Salvagedcircuit Posted March 30, 2024 Posted March 30, 2024 This would definitely be some interesting information to know. The PO must have installed a rebuilt ECU in mine, but it does not say mopar anywhere on it. I think it was done by cardone, or whoever they farm it out to.
eaglescout526 Posted March 30, 2024 Posted March 30, 2024 The only upgraded ECU is 89-90 There was a performance ECU offered for a short bit.
Ωhm Posted March 30, 2024 Posted March 30, 2024 I wonder if it’s an ECU that was returned under a warranty claim, tested and No Trouble Found (NFT). Re-issued and placed back in the marketplace.

Salvagedcircuit Posted March 31, 2024 Posted March 31, 2024 It would be interesting if someone found a document stating the "rebuild" procedure. My guess: replace the electrolytic and tantalum capacitors, re-silicone it closed and ship it.
cruiser54 Posted March 31, 2024 Posted March 31, 2024 If that. If you can find the OEM number on the unit somehow, we could determine the year. The performance ECU had a P as a prefix FWIW.
TheFerret55 Posted March 31, 2024 Author Posted March 31, 2024 I installed it last night and I could noticeably tell it was idling better. Haven’t been able to actually drive it yet since I had some other stuff torn apart but I’ll report back today once I drive it.

It was a struggle to get it installed so I don’t really want to take it out again for a while haha
TheFerret55 Posted April 1, 2024 Author Posted April 1, 2024 Drove it on the highway this morning and it seems to have a little more pep to it with the new ecu and the cold starts are smoother
