Jeep88Comanche
Good evening, I have been browsing out near everywhere and all forums but haven't been able to find anything. So here we go... I started to have lovely screeching when I press the clutch in and goes away when depressed. 😔(Which is how I'm feeling about this) then I started to have trouble accelerating in 1st and 2nd gear. Feels like I'm riding a bull 🐂 everytime I try to accelerate in 1st or 2nd gear. I replaced the Pressure Plate (Cover), Clutch Disc, Concentric Slave Clyinder with Release Bearing put everything back together and now the screeching is gone but I still feel like I'm about to get bucked out my Comanche. 4.0 i6 4x4 Standard Ended up naming it Negan from TWD. Thought it was fitting.
Pete M
did the 2 problems come on simultaneously?
Jeep88Comanche
No, separate encounters.. I was driving to work one morning and there was some heavy rain. No issues while I was driving. When I got off work I started noticing the screeching on my way home. I'd say my stuttering started a couple days after. I'm fine. Shifting into first and second gears, but when I give it gas. I start stuttering and feel like I'm about to get kicked out. Or I'm at a heavy rock concert. Headbanging. I did come across some reading material about low tranny fluid. What about low transfer case fluid?? also maybe cps? thoughts? Thank you Pete.
gogmorgo
I suspect this is engine related, and unrelated to the screeching. The screeching when you step on the clutch would have been the release bearing failing. First thought is to test your fuel pressure. Second thought is something to do with throttle position sensor. Test components, don’t just start replacing things. I would also suggest heading over to cruiser54.com and start working on the tips. He also has some sensor tests that would be good to perform. Also doesn’t hurt to check for a vacuum leak.
pizzaman09
What happens when you put it in neutral and coast? I have a random thought that you might check for is a locked up front brake caliper. I've had non returning front pistons cause some pretty epic vibrations. My other thought is that you have a bad pilot bearing.
Jeep88Comanche
I'm gonna be checking it out later this evening and all day tomorrow. I did take off my distributor cap and found a small pool of oil inside. So we will see what it holds. Update incoming soon.
gogmorgo
That’s going to mean a new distributor, if it’s leaking up the shaft. Had it happen on a couple older vehicles, it results in exactly your symptoms. The shaft isn’t sitting in the middle of the distributor anymore resulting in weird spark behaviour and probably also poor sync signals. Plus coating everything in oil doesn’t help it out. Jeep88Comanche
*UPDATE* I took the distributor out and cleaned it up until I can purchase a new one. I had ordered some new tranny to engine mounting bolts as well as a new CPS just in case. Worse case I could return it. As I was putting them on I took off the CPS and it looked like the thing got ripped up. So I put the new one on and bolted everything back together and bam started up drove just fine. Thank you everyone. Looks like in still not completely done as I need to save up for the distributor. But thank you everyone!

cruiser54
Be sure your CPS wiring doesn't get into the exhaust manifold area!!
