70barracuda
So I have the new bumper from OGR ordered and would like to try and match the patina on the jeep best I can. I was thinking of painting it black, painting it with the Colorado red and then rubbing through in some parts to give it the worn look. No clear so hopefully it'll sun fade pretty quickly, then I'll clear over it. Any better ideas?
boxyjeep
You may be better off using a very high grit (numerically) sandpaper to rub off the red after it’s fully dried. Then clear over it (obviously not high gloss clear). That’s what I would try—haven’t done it myself.
Pete M
hoods are cheap. try it on some spare sheetmetal first.
75sv1
There are formulas that 'Rust' metal. Some of the Black Power guys 'brown' their parts. I think Casey-Brichwood makes a product for that.
70barracuda
Yeah if it was metal I think it would be easier. Being plastic it's going to be tougher give it the fake patina.
The86manche
There is a guy on YouTube, puddins fab shop, that did a resto mod with fake patina on a Datsun. He used this fake rust power he sprinkled on the pain to look like rust. I'd say check out his channel and see what he does. I can't remember the name of the product but he mentions it.
