Warren99 Posted December 31, 2022 Posted December 31, 2022 I'm swapping the interior from an 87 Chief(auto) into my 89 base(manual). For the interior wiring, I was planning on basically just gutting my truck, then just using all of the wiring from 87 starting at the fuse panel connector. Is there anything wrong or not plug and play about this? Also, I thought I remembered reading somewhere that an 89 engine computer is more advanced or better than an 87, so should I want to, or maybe even need to incorporate my current engine computer?
jdog Posted December 31, 2022 Posted December 31, 2022 Should not have a problem, I did the close to the same thing, used an auto harness in a manual, just make sure to not use the trans harness(separate from main harness) from the auto if keeping manual
Warren99 Posted December 31, 2022 Author Posted December 31, 2022 Alright, do you know anything about the computers like I mentioned?
Smokeyyank Posted December 31, 2022 Posted December 31, 2022 I swapped in a 89 ecm into my 88, it was plug and play. I think it only matters on the automatic and needing to have the same. Manual doesn't matter which one you swap.
pizzaman09 Posted January 1, 2023 Posted January 1, 2023 The later computers have a more refined tune that improves idle performance and supposedly is good for a few extra horsepower. It's worth the swap.
Warren99 Posted January 2, 2023 Author Posted January 2, 2023 Alright thank you, the biggest thing I wanted to make sure of was that all of the interior harness(from where it connects thru the firewall with the fuse panel) was identical and plug and play from 87-89. I have been delayed a bit as I've been sick the last few days but should resume progress tomorrow hopefully.
