Exaust suggestions/styles

Recommended Posts

So I have a nasty hole in my exhaust up under the bed of the truck. I've had it and known it was there since I bought it. Been lazy repairing it:laugh: It does almost make a sputtering sound upon first cranking and cold idling. It's also very loud. I was wondering if I should go duel exhausts coming out the side. One turned left, one turning right beneath the rear bumper, have them just come out straight on either side of my trailer hitch or have the exhausts sort of swooped down at the tips with them either going out to the sides of the bumper or coming straight out. Or I could just simply have it patched. Very curious and want to explore options. Not looking to down pipe or straight pipe.

Its all personal preference and how you want it to work and look. Duals just adds to the fabrication time.

Mines just in the stock location. When I got it back on the road the muffler was rusted out so I just put on a cheapo Rockauto muffler in its place for time being.

Yeah I've still been thinking on muffler styles and whatnot. Rockauto seems to have all kinds of muffler and exhaust parts. I'm leaning kinda towards just having the hole patched if possible or completely have it custom made at the shop and have it put back in place. However part of me wants to try duel exhaust although as Jeff said it just adds to the fabrication time/price. The muffler has been on the bottom of my "to do list" for a very very long time. I'll probably go have it estimated sometime next week since I got 3 or 4 muffler shops nearby

Anything behind the muffler back will be custom at this point unless your lucky enough to have old stock. To my knowledge the tail pipes for long and short beds are NLA. Many places advertise them still but are listed as temporarily out of stock. I'm not sure about Crown, but inside sources say that Walker will no longer be offering them for either 6' or 7' beds. I imagine that will probably include the rest of the exhaust components as stock depletes. Even the xjs that used the same header and down pipe as the newest MJ is going on almost 30 years. This is not about supply from COVID. These vehicles are old and even xjs are becoming more and more rare. It just isn't sinking in heads that they truly are classics at this point if people want to admit it or not. 25 years old meets historical plate requirements in Indiana.

I understand, next year every car I own will qualify for antique plates here in PA.  Three of my cars are from 99, the 99 Oldsmobile being the most difficult to get parts for.  The Comanche and the 99 BMW M3 are relatively easy to find parts for as they both have great enthusiast communities behind them.
