Whitaker717
Hi guys, as the title states, is it possible to tighten the tow mirror arm? The pieces that bolt yo the bracket inside the door. I have a couple I would like to put on my Comanche but bracket is a bit loose. Therefore the arm will move a bit when bolted to the door. If anyone has any idea how to tighten it or what to do I would appreciate it.
Whitaker717
Can someone who has these mirrors tell me if the arm brackets move? On both mirrors I have, the bottom bracket moves but on one of them the top bracket moves too. Trying to figure out if it is able to be tightened up. Pete M
what do the attachment points look like? I don't have a pair to check.
Whitaker717
Here you go Pete. The top and bottom points move on one of them. I don’t see how you tighten or adjust them. IMG_4792.MOV
Pete M
well, that's puzzling. there isn't some sort of tiny set screw hole for the top pivot, is there?
Whitaker717
I’m not sure. If there is I can’t see one. Someone else asked the same thing. I would think you could tighten that somehow. Idk though
Pete M
@eaglescout526 anything in the computers that sheds light on this conundrum?
Pete M
so I broke out the big red paperback (89 shop manual) and there isn't any word on the issue. I'm guessing that the friction coefficient is set when new and that's it, they either get loose with time or freeze up with time.
Whitaker717
I was kind of thinking the same thing. I might try to disassemble one to see what is going on with it.

I’ll have to check the service library and see. And I’ll check my service bulletin books too. Didn’t think to try any of those. Whitaker and I spoke behind the scenes about this and I told him to see if anyone out there as run into this issue. Seems like not a lot of us have. But then again, how many MJs are on here with tow mirrors?
Pete M
the usual problem I've seen is that they have frozen in place.
Whitaker717
Anyone with this type of mirror, on the top part there are two indentations that look like a spanner wrench might go into it. I don’t know if mine are deep enough. Does anyone who has these mirrors have the same two indentations. I wonder if you could get a spanner on it and turn the round part. Thoughts?
