Hello...

I just bought an '89 comanche (4.0 / I6 4wd). It has a Peugeot trans which is shot. I found a rebuilt AX15 for sale, and I was wondering how much of a problem it will be to swap it. Will it bolt straight in? Or will I have to find a transfer case, bell housing, etc? Also, if it is going to be a pain, how popular was the peugeot in the cherokees (I know they are mechanically the same as comanches, but it seems to be that the peugeots are few and far between)?

Thanks,

-Seth

I have swapped to an AX15 also.

Parts needed:

AX15 - preferably with an external slave cylinder (bell housing, shift fork, slave cylinder)

Transmission cross member

Transmission mount

Transfer case (23 spline input shaft)

Transfer case shift linkage

Cool, thanks

Just to clarify: Does that mean that the crossmember/mount/trnsfr case/ bell housing off the Peugeot will not swap to the AX15, even if they are still in good shape?

That is correct

Your transfer case itslelf would swap over if you changed the input gear but it’s typically not worth the cost vs one that already has a 23 spline. You can also look on eBay for a complete swap from DeadJeep. Keep in mind that the xj/mj ax15 clocks the transfer case slightly lower on the drivers side for clearance.
