  1. Ok, new info.... I counted the splines on my transmission, and it has 10 and 21. I also looked up the serial number, and it looks like I was sold a Peugeot and not an Aisin (53005252). This being the case, should I just swap in the Peugeot? I was going to swap everything (bellhousing, mounts, transfer case, etc), but if I already have the transmission it would save me money and time to just throw it in... on the other hand, I know the Peugeots weren't the best transmissions. Will I regret not going with the ax-15?
  2. Hey, I am swapping the transmission in my Comanche from the Peugeot the the Aisin. I purchased a transmission from a salvage dealer thinking that it was an ax-15, but it looks like it may be an ax-5. As I understand it, the ax-5 has 14/21 splines and the ax-15 has 10/23, and that the ax-5 was for 4 cylinders and the ax-15 was for 6 cylinders. Is this correct? I've been using car-part.com to find parts, and these are the listing choices for transfer cases: If this is right, does that mean that there were two Aisin transmissions for the 6.0 4x4 that had different numbers of splines?
  3. Cool, thanks Just to clarify: Does that mean that the crossmember/mount/trnsfr case/ bell housing off the Peugeot will not swap to the AX15, even if they are still in good shape?
  4. Hello... I just bought an '89 comanche (4.0 / I6 4wd). It has a Peugeot trans which is shot. I found a rebuilt AX15 for sale, and I was wondering how much of a problem it will be to swap it. Will it bolt straight in? Or will I have to find a transfer case, bell housing, etc? Also, if it is going to be a pain, how popular was the peugeot in the cherokees (I know they are mechanically the same as comanches, but it seems to be that the peugeots are few and far between)? Thanks, -Seth
