1989 MJ Bench Seat Stuck in Full Forward Position

Hello,

The bench seat in a 1989 MJ 2wd base model is stuck in the full forward position.

Before I tear into it I am wondering if this is a common problem and is there anything particular I shuld look for.

Sounds like it all needs to be lubed. To be fair it requires a lot to actually push to seat back when you’re pushing for kit just your side but the other side as well

When I tried to push it back from only the driver side I could feel it moving a little but the passenger side did not move at all.  Did not try with a passenger pushing on that side at the same time.

Would there be a latch on both sides activated from the single lever and rod on the driver side?

just one handle on the drivers side.   the pass side latch can be a real pain to release.

Yeah you will probably have to really pull. Also it’s possible something happened to the cable but also not. When I took mine out I found out that the cable from latch to latch had a lot of slack.

My cable will release the latches on both sides but I still have to sit in the middle to get it to move back.  Pretty much why it stays where it is.

The bench in my shortbed was the same when I first got it. I moved it back by sitting in the passenger seat, reaching down and pulling on the cable, and got a roommate to sit in the driver’s seat, pull the handle, and help push.
Make sure there isn’t anything under the seat blocking the rails.
