Dan693 Posted May 7, 2022 Posted May 7, 2022 Hello, The bench seat in a 1989 MJ 2wd base model is stuck in the full forward position. Before I tear into it I am wondering if this is a common problem and is there anything particular I shuld look for. Dan
eaglescout526 Posted May 7, 2022 Posted May 7, 2022 Sounds like it all needs to be lubed. To be fair it requires a lot to actually push to seat back when you’re pushing for kit just your side but the other side as well
Dan693 Posted May 7, 2022 Author Posted May 7, 2022 When I tried to push it back from only the driver side I could feel it moving a little but the passenger side did not move at all. Did not try with a passenger pushing on that side at the same time. Would there be a latch on both sides activated from the single lever and rod on the driver side? Thanks.
Pete M Posted May 7, 2022 Posted May 7, 2022 just one handle on the drivers side. the pass side latch can be a real pain to release.
eaglescout526 Posted May 7, 2022 Posted May 7, 2022 Yeah you will probably have to really pull. Also it’s possible something happened to the cable but also not. When I took mine out I found out that the cable from latch to latch had a lot of slack.
rokinn Posted May 7, 2022 Posted May 7, 2022 My cable will release the latches on both sides but I still have to sit in the middle to get it to move back. Pretty much why it stays where it is.
gogmorgo Posted May 9, 2022 Posted May 9, 2022 The bench in my shortbed was the same when I first got it. I moved it back by sitting in the passenger seat, reaching down and pulling on the cable, and got a roommate to sit in the driver’s seat, pull the handle, and help push. Make sure there isn’t anything under the seat blocking the rails.
