Diesel oils are fine. All we used at the Dealership was 15-40 diesel oils.

Safely cleans out sludgy engines also. MMO added works real wonders.

FINALLY made it to Napa. What I got wasn't the the cheapest option, but I don't care since this is my midlife crisis truck. (key word: crisis)

I went for the syn blend because it's very very hot in Phoenix, and I will probably be doing around town driving, with frequent stops and starts.

I had noticed what sounds like a knock (slap?) coming from beneath after they changed to 40 weight at the shop, was wondering if switching back to 30 would quiet it down. Nope, think it's even louder now. Oh well.

To keep things in balance, I neglected to get a new oil drain plug washer, so it does drip a small bit of oil from the plug now.

Cause if you ain't got a seep, you ain't got a Jeep.

I expected the upright adapter-ed oil filter change to be a complete mess, and I actually managed to wedge a funnel beneath it to guide oil toward the catch pan.

It was as messy as I expected. That day's interesting discovery what seeing that the adapter conveniently holds onto  a big glob of old oil for you.

Oh well, this oil wasn't that old anyway.

I did jam the corner of my phone into the valve cover fill hole and snapped a picture.

What little bit I can see looks, metallic?

Anyway, this oil change adventure is done.  I'm rolling T5 Rotella heavy duty diesel oil in it now.

Hopefully it'll be happy.

Thanks to everyone who participated in another pointless oil thread!

I've run High Mileage Castrol Synthetic Blend 5W-30 and 10W-30 over the years I've had my Comanche (since Sept-2007).  After reading this thread and being aware of the ZDDP drama the last few years, I switched to Rotella T4 15W-40 last weekend.  I was surprised when I read here 15W-40 and 2W-50 were recommended for hotter conditions.   Gee, read the manual.  Duh.

I bought the 3 gallon box of Rotella at Walmart.  That's a nice even two changes.  Beats all the other oils that come in 5 gallon containers!

What are the thoughts on STP High Mileage Oil Treatment + Stop Leak?  https://www.stp.com/product/high-mileage-oil-treatment-stop-leak/

I'm more interested in its High Mileage and Stop Leak selling points since the Rotella has enough ZDDP.

That's great oil. Stop leak?

Since it's had Castrol High Mileage the last several years, I thought a High Mileage treatment might be OK to compliment the Rotella.

Looks fine to me. Pretty normal.

Observe what the Rotella does the longer you run it. Take the same pic now and then.

Will do.

It needs a new valve cover gasket, a project for a cool winter day here in Phoenix, so I'll be getting a good look at the arms then.

Thanks for the help!

I prefer the Traveller brand of 15w40. Can get it at tractor supply in 2.5 Gallon jugs for around $30. I've been running diesel oils in my Jeeps for years and still have very quiet engines. I aim for around 3500 miles for intervals

I would avoid stop leak products. They do one of two things, swell seals or plug gaps. Working seals and oil passages don’t need those things.
