WranglingManche
Picked up an 88 Comanche 4.0 and I haven’t be able to get it started there’s no power drain I tried following wires but all the power stops at the starter relay, which has ground, I have no power to my fuse box or anywhere in the truck. I have replaced the main battery wires, and tried cleaning multiple connectors. I’m able to jump the starter, but that only help check compression and that the engine wasn’t seized. Any ideas of what I should try next would be super helpful
jdog
Check the fuseable links coming off of the starter relay, there should be two that run into the fuse box. Does the headlights work? If so then check the connections at the ignition switch
jdog
Also download the electric manual
The86manche
Sounds like starter relay may be bad.
WranglingManche
I have already replaced the starter relay with a new one and still no power anywhere, not to the fuse box not to the cab, and nothing in the engine bay, I have followed wires already and noting is split/broken that I’m able to see. WranglingManche
Update, I brought it to a buddy who has worked on similar year cherokees and had him take a look, he went much more in depth then I have the time to and found a spot where my harness is completely melted, also said its been swapped to a 4.0, so there’s another fun time, said the best thing I could do is buy a whole new harness and redo all the wiring. I’m curious are there any companies who make remanufactured harnesses or am I going to have to dig through scrap yards and u-pulls to find a decent harness? DirtyComanche
The Renix harness is really simple and can normally be deloomed, inspected, and repaired over a weekend of poking at it and doing other things. Or you can get a junkyard one, which may or may not need work itself. There is nothing from the aftermarket that I'm aware of. Where did it melt? Take it apart and see how bad it is. WranglingManche
So I looked around and found an 89 Cherokee with the renix 4.0, all the wiring is in better condition, and the engine area is more complete then mine, but it has no front axle and the body is shot, I’m curious of a price I should pay for something like this

And then you can part it out and get some money back when you have pulled all you need
DirtyComanche
I agree $500ish max. I mean, feel them out, if you show up with a trailer and a case of Natty Light, you might not need pay anything.
WranglingManche
By a stupid mistake I’ve picked up a 95 xj with the 4.0 HO for super cheap, am I able to Frankenstein these two engines together to have a running Comanche? What will I need to swap over to make this work? will it work with the ho harness If I swap computers aswell? I’m just trying to get it running and driving for the most part
boxyjeep
No. You would need to swap over a ton of the electrical system for this to work. While possible, it will take significantly longer than just pulling your engine harness and fixing the issue. Use the 88 Electrical Manual that someone linked above.
