Power problems
WranglingManche replied to WranglingManche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I’m going through the truck checking grounds, but would the grounds consistently make starting the truck slower? Last week it started no problem, yesterday I had to pull out a booster pack to get home -
Power problems

Battery cables are new, I replaced them myself as the old ones were visibly destroyed, wipers are fixed unplugged the box and it blew the fuse right after replaced the fuse and they’re working for now, I’ll have a look at the lights later today, but I’ve hit another problem. When my truck is running I’m reading 14v on my gauges, battery is new and I tested it and it’s reading 12v, but with the key on truck not running my gauges read 8-9v and the truck is taking longer to start up -

Hey guys, my Comanche just got done in the shop for a road inspection, but I got a problem. my sound system is MIA, radio and half the speakers were missing when I bought the truck. I got about 1 1/2 weeks of driving it around town before I take a 20 hour road trip in it, and I “NEED” a sound system I was trying to figure out what speakers I want to put in, but don’t know much about sound systems. I’ll be lining the inside of the cab with killmat or other sound deadening mat in the future. I was thinking of putting a 12” or 2x 10” subs behind the bench seat but you guys are the experts on these trucks so I’m trying to find suggestions on how to set it up. all suggestions and warnings are appreciated

There’s a guy local selling a set of Rockwell axels and a 6l ls 4l80 setup, I’m more interested in the axels, is this a viable swap? Or completely outrageous? Could the 4.0 handle this or would the 6.0 need to be swapped in?

I found an 89 double bar roll bar from an 89 ford ranger and was curious how well it might fit, and how much fab I might be looking at

By a stupid mistake I’ve picked up a 95 xj with the 4.0 HO for super cheap, am I able to Frankenstein these two engines together to have a running Comanche? What will I need to swap over to make this work? will it work with the ho harness If I swap computers aswell? I’m just trying to get it running and driving for the most part

I plan on just using it to commute to work, and take on the odd off-road camping trip -
Xj lift kit on mj

I understand your point about not lifting it to much but when I say it needs suspension desperately, I mean it has no suspension, no shocks, the springs are old and worn, and I Seem to be missing a leaf in the back -
Update, I brought it to a buddy who has worked on similar year cherokees and had him take a look, he went much more in depth then I have the time to and found a spot where my harness is completely melted, also said its been swapped to a 4.0, so there’s another fun time, said the best thing I could do is buy a whole new harness and redo all the wiring. I’m curious are there any companies who make remanufactured harnesses or am I going to have to dig through scrap yards and u-pulls to find a decent harness?

I don’t know the exact specs on the kit at this time but should have more information soon, curious what size tires I should run for the 6” lift? I also found a 4.5” Comanche lift for sale nearby and was curious of the size of tires would be recommended on this lift? -
Picked up an 88 Comanche 4.0 and I haven’t be able to get it started there’s no power drain I tried following wires but all the power stops at the starter relay, which has ground, I have no power to my fuse box or anywhere in the truck. I have replaced the main battery wires, and tried cleaning multiple connectors. I’m able to jump the starter, but that only help check compression and that the engine wasn’t seized. Any ideas of what I should try next would be super helpful

I picked up a 88 mj a few weeks back and have been slowly working away on it, but it needs new suspension desperately, a buddy of mine picked up a 6” xj Cherokee lift kit but sold his Jeep before it arrived and has had it sitting around for awhile. I was curious if I could make his lift fit on my Comanche?
